It shouldn't be that much trouble to implement, I wouldn't think. It's a basic function. That they haven't done so can only lead me to surmise they don't see it as much of an issue. Doesn't seem as though the policy will change anytime soon.

In the Next letter of the producer people should just SPAM the question ... "What are the developers planning on doing about the tell spamming going on?" Spam the question about 100 times until they have to officially answer.
like lets be serious on all other mmos except this one you can right click the persons name and report spam.
That's the problem; reporting is such a hassle. You click 'report an RMT trader' and then you even have to type a title for the message! That's before you start filling in all the required fields. When you've done all that, nothing happens for a bit and then you get a message from support flashed across your screen and more prompts to read the reply and close the ticket.
All of that is disruptive of play and completely unnecessary.
I'll be honest, I don't report as often as I did. I'll often let the first /tell pass and only take action if I'm harassed repeatedly.
Please Square, make this easier, R Click and report from chat window at the very least.
I've already had three RMT tells today, which is a lot, considering for a long time we've had none at all over here. So the whole thing seems to be going backwards in a serious way these days....
I would have reported them but it's too much hassle... :/
18 tells today...................wtf is going on?
Shortly after I posted my previous message I got a fourth before I logged out. I guess that was my fault for not immediately blocking the sender of the previous tell?
What makes reporting such a hassle is that they often have these keyboard mash names that are just impossible to retype accurately. And they know it. That's why we need right-click report with the damn info already filled in.
It's been over three years now, I believe. The number of times this has been suggested on the forums is probably in the tens of thousands now. SE knows we want this, but for some reason refuses to implement it. I don't really understand the reasoning behind it.
*shakes head* It's such a simple thing... It boggles the mind.
Received more tell spam yesterday. Not a good sign. Or a good first impression for new players.
While it wouldn't solve the problem it would be nice to have some expanded /tell options that would make it better. Even if they gave the options to accept tells only from friends, FC and LS this would allow people to at least filter out the other stuff. I can't speak for others but most of the people who are in game friends and myself get tells from one of those 3 categories as I imagine many others as well. This for me would solve my issues with RMT which is constant.
Seaaaaannnnnnn... It's SB from Pandy lol i'm trying to get on your damn server and it's full. :/
I have posted so many bot videos to my YouTube with ideas on how to remove this plague of disease known as rmt i hope square reads this thread and takes action
Still getting RMT tells here on Cerberus. And the other day two spambots were competing with each other in the Gridania markets.
On faerie, when I was on my Alt, there was a RMT seller who interacts with players in limsa. He likes to take screenshots with people sitting by main aetheryte (near the MB there)
I don’t know if he's still there. But I get like a tell every 1-4 mins.
So there are currently spammers from two different websites competing for the most /say spam in Gridania here. One of them is an old familiar site name, the other is a new one I've never seen before.
so. just gonna leave this here. its a direct link to the page for reporting gil spammers. it actually works too. i setup a chat log filter to include only tell data, copied their character names, included the various messages and timestamps and i report it. takes me about 5 minutes if i have alot of them and need to change the filter settings before hand. my gil sell tells have gone from every 5 minutes to once a day in less than a week. and no, i dont spam duties, and no i dont sit around with my busy status on. i craft/gather/chat pretty much all day on here. even more so now that 3.4 has a date on it. true, i do have dual monitors and run in windowed mode pretty much always (who doesnt nowdays) we all want the devs to make it automated yes. and i agree something more needs to be done. but for now i'd rather see them all focus on bringing me new content than fixing something we can easily fix ourselves.

Sooooo signed^^.
There are now three (3!) gill spammers competing for who can spam the /say channel in Gridania the most. You can't even see two of them - they've somehow hacked their characters underground or invisible. Come on people.
Signed. Why can't we be like the jp servers? they get 0 RMT tell spam and afaik no bots running around
It's true there is not RMT spam in my server.
But, there are bots occasionally. They mostly stick to the lower level areas or warp around so fast they are rarely seen. They seem to be used for leveling, not gathering.
HOWEVER, there is this one bot that has been running around for the past few days now in our server and no action has been taken yet.
I have already reported it 4 times in the past two days, writing in both English and Japanese, so whoever gets the message can understand it and fix this problem.
But still, the bot is still doing this. Not logging out for more than 24 hours, doing the same exact routine over and over.
They have complete monopoly on some items on market board!
What do we need to do to get the GMs to notice JUST ONE PERSON!?
It should be easy. Just ONE person? How long will this illegal activity be tolerated?
How hard is it? To read reports for one bot on this one server. Why can't this be solved quickly?
EDIT: I am tired of this bot being ignored. Perhaps reporting the player for harassment will at least let me speak to a real human about this situation? Has anyone tried this?
As far as the tell bots go, The ability to set tells to friends only, and ability to disable friend requests would solve that problem
Signed to help.
We do have bots over here in the JP servers, mostly THM and ARC bots who teleport around and stack in one place killing low level mobs.
And the japanese do engage in RMT but they do so very discreetly - they buy their RMT/gil thru jp yahoo auctions and the like.
RMT employees will go wherever they make the most money. Tired of seeing RMT spam? Blame the people who buy gil. If you buy it you're part of the problem so don't bother complaining.
As long as there are more RMT employees buying copies of the game and subscribing than there are people leaving due to RMT, why would SE do anything about this? The exact same problem was huge in FFXI and it was the sole reason I stopped playing. But there apparently were a lot of people willing to keep the game going despite the gil sellers.
Now the FFXI gil buyers, plus those from other games of course, are in FFXIV, and apparently there are enough of them still buying gil that the RMT people are willing to keep buying copies of FFXIV with or without legal payment methods.
Stop expecting SE to do anything about the RMT problem. It's not going to happen and you should've realized that by now. If you really want RMT to go away, stop buying gil and discourage your friends from buying it.
They are adding a direct report RMT button. Finally. After three years.
Won't solve the problem, but being able to one stop report is a huge improvement. I'll take it.
Ah, finally. :)
(Though I'm a little surprised about the mention that "When it is confirmed the reported player is sending RMT messages, their ability to speak with other players will be restricted." It seems that once it's confirmed, the whole account should be banned. What's the point in just silencing them?)
If the player was hacked, all the more reason for it to be a complete ban, to prevent any further damage to the account. It should be an immediate indefinite ban (permanent unless proven it was hacked and can be returned to the proper owner).
And saving it for regular ban waves defeats the point, which is to get them banned faster than those waves come around. There's no benefit in waiting for them after the decision's been made.
