Not quite - they did cheer, but it was a bit delayed. Could be genuine excitement, could be "oh yeah, we should probably cheer now or it'll be awkward".
(I'm thinking of after the video though, can't remember what the reaction was when they showed the first picture.)
I must have missed this then, but I can understand why people would want a bestial race. However, they've effectively dumped around half of that population by gender-locking it to men only. I can also imagine they lost another chunk of that population just by virtue of how ugly they are...I'm getting more Cats the Musical as played by Roegadyn vibes rather than actual bestial qualities lol. I feel like not very many people saw the reveal and went "Oh, finally!!!! This is exactly what I wanted!" but that's just me.
You're all missing my point completely. Nowhere at all did they say "we have introduced the Ronso from FF10", this means the "wah no females" is completely irrelevant, because 14s Hrothgar are not Ronso. Lore wise, we know absolutely nothing about them other than the fact they look like Ronso and happen to share the name in an alternate shard. For all we know, female Hrothgar just don't exist in the world of 14.
Of course they would allow you to make Khimari/Fran lookalikes, this is fanservice fantasy after all. To expect anything different wpuld be idiotic.
I hope they add a future patch to fix this, gender lock it's always been a really bad idea. I want delicate boys and strong women, I want to choose what to be. I'm a girl that plays as a handsome miqo'te. Let me choose!!! D:
Yeah, I'm going to reserve my full judgement for when we get to play around with customisation options and see how they look in-game in cutscenes and such. At the end of the day, if I don't like them there are multiple playable races that I do like the look and feel of.
You're not starved for those aesthetics. You can already customise characters to look exactly that way if you wish.
Personally I'm glad that we're getting something genuinely unique in the form of a proper 'bestial' race.
