Why not have both versions as separate clans?
I could get behind the idea of a Fran like Viera , yes i could .
totally down for viera
So like how some people already mentioned before, we could just have viera use anklets or something instead of full blown shoes.

However, I still would like viera to have proper foot gear too, so perhaps the dev team can give the anklet treatment to level 49 gear and below. The devs can focus on making the level 50+ gear that already exists fit viera.
This way the devs won't have to redesign EVERY single footwear for viera, just the shoes level 50 and over. (Maybe with the exception of a couple of level 1 shoes, like lady's clogs or moonfire sandals, often used for glamour.) Moving forward, they can design shoes to fit viera.
Because we have a lot of new gear that's coming out, it seems like the devs will have a lot of work on their hands. I'm sure they are aware that if more footwear is introduced into the game, the more they'll have to work to redesign all of it to fit viera's digitigrade feet as well.
It almost feels like a race against time at this point, which makes me wonder; could the devs be lowkey designing foot gear for digitigrade feet each time they release new armor? If adding viera to the game is still on the table, could they have a folder of foot gear meshes for viera set aside? It's a bit of a conspiracy, but it's an interesting thought.
The idea of Viera came from Fran , a tall race not a child like.
They actually came from Tactics Advance which was released in 2003. Final Fantasy 12 was released in 2006. However both games share the same world as far as I remember.
Tactics Advance:

FF14's proposed 'child' variant:

Personally speaking I prefer the FF12 rendition, but I wouldn't be upset if they added both and made them like Midlanders and Highlanders.
Bunny folk eh? Well it's not like they don't exist in the ff universe already, I suppose they could fit in... *looks at the ffxiv "child" version* ahhh but I mean really we do have those ears in the golden saucer, do we really need actual bunnies? The cat people would just hunt and kill them, then we'd be constantly tripping and stepping on or over dead bunny people body parts. Plus its really disturbing when they take off their skullcap and start eating the brains.

They would have to change their feet anatomy to be like normal humans feet. As much as I would be happy and interested to try a new race, no matter what it'd be. We still have a miqote which is quite close. If only SE would have made the miqote race like in other MMos that you can change the ears and tails we wouldnt need a new seperate animal race... I'd like to see something new.
/ I just read somewhere someone suggested how instead of shoes they'd only wear anklets. That might work?
I like the anklet idea and finally we would have something slightly less human! Ever since the survey I have been sitting patiently for Viera, really hope they follow through. I guess I'll continue to wait patiently
My point was that the inclusion of said enemy (in my mind) dictates that if he and his brethren can exist on Hydalen the Viera, who are by all accounts well versed in my forms of magiks can and should exist as they are depicted in FFXII. Ba'Gamnan, a bumbling near comedic henchmen and his lackeys can do something Fran and her people could not? While i admit he seems a bit craftier here in FFXIV, to me that only means Viera as shown FFXII could and should exist here.
Since the beginning i always felt the child like Viera were just that, children. The art team has obviously used in game races to show the youth of those said races in the setting to help flesh out the the feel of the world. Just as Hyur, Miqo'te, Au ra, Lalafell, Elezen, children exist in Hydalen so to was concept art made for the proposed Viera race (where the Roegadyn kids are is beyond me...). However none of those kids are playable, and in my mind they should not be.
The setting does not need them, as it is the Elder Seedseer Kan-E-Senna, was in a lore panel said to be physically only about 13 years of age (mentally in her 30's), however she does what she can to be seen as older so that she can command respect and maturity in matters of state, dealings with officials, and issues of crisis. She knows for all her power many can and do see her as a child.
How is it awful? While I do still prefer Viera to not be playable, I actually really like how they look in the Tactics Advance games.

Also, if they were going to be playable, Tactics Advance would give the devs an idea on how gear could look.
Yeah, a little while ago I suggested viera shoes level 1-49 could just be simple anklets (with the exception of some popular level 1 shoes used for glamour). The dev team can focus on making proper footwear that would fit digitigrade feet for level 50-70 shoes. I think this will cut down a bit on development time and would be less work. I wonder if other people would settle for having simple anklets for their viera until level 50. I know I'd be ok with it as long as some of those level 1 shoes often used for glamour were also redesigned to fit digitigrade feet.
Do we really want just another elezen with different ears tacked onto it though...? Why not something interesting, like Burmecians or Banga, or anything other than another human with ears or horns.
Honestly it would be a lot better for them to simply retro-fit and update all existing races with more polygons and better navmeshes. Make Lalafell not infant 6 year olds and make them actually look interesting, give Au'ra some uniqueness, fix up Elezens proportions. And yes there is a reason they can't do this and the Viera at the same time. Viera would mean the 3D Art department, specifically character art, would be tied up making just another hyur with some fancy ears stuck on them and a slightly different face.
Do we want them to really work on Viera and just implement them in the current low-poly and aging out standards... Or get all the races they have now done so that any new races they add will be to the same new high poly standards? And again, do we really want nothing but a human wearing wears? We can do that now, heck you can have fox people even.
From recent interview with Dualshockers:
G: You probably knew that this question was coming sooner or later: with Return to Ivalice creating a bridge between Final Fantasy XIV and Final Fantasy XII, and with Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age selling over a million copies, has the chance of seeing Viera implemented as a playable race improved?
Yoshida: We shall see⦠conversations on new races and jobs in FFXIV is super-top secret! I would be risking my life if I were to talk about it. Let us say that only the Mother Crystal knows. :p
Tongue smile was in source material @ DS
Well, people speculated about Red Mage and Samurai 3-5 months before announcement.
I guess the next race is Viera, which will be introduced in Ivalice Part 3: Final by the end of Stormblood, as i suggested earlier.
If the developers are struggling to implement gear in a fair and timely manner for both genders then I don't see the benefit in adding yet another playable race that is only going to lead to even more work each time a new set has to be designed to fit everybody.
Just look at what gear is placed in the mog station. The devs have no desire to make"something interesting, like Burmecians or Banga, or anything other than another human with ears or horns."
They don't even bother to allow paid for gear to be dye-able, good luck putting a Bangaa in this.

At least Viera would only need to have a partial rework to the gear.
Nevermind, found the link in another thread.
