I wouldn't do ballad unless asked for it or if mages mp were below 1k (2k for certain fights). Foe I only use for dps check phases of fights not the whole time.

LMAO!!! So you burned your post allowance tiring to convince the ARMY that is everyone else in this game why bard should NOT glance over and the mp bars and anticipate the need for Mage's ballad? That is beyond funny. The icing on the cake is you imply that you would rather die, wipe the party and lecture the healers on MP management (Ethers, SoS...whatever) than see the lack of MP and take action to save yourself and the party. You might want to brush up on the virtues of being a team player. Forget other's short comings. Work on yours. Take the hint.
Oops! Wait a minute. You said you don't like links. Ok then i'll explain what it is. It's a Youtube clip that explains what the Dunning–Kruger effect is:
"The Dunning–Kruger effect is a cognitive bias manifesting in unskilled individuals suffering from illusory superiority, mistakenly rating their ability much higher than is accurate. This bias is attributed to a metacognitive inability of the unskilled to recognize their ineptitude."
Bards need to look at MP bars just like healers need to look at HP bars. It's not "right" or "wrong." It just is.
I take your almost and raise you never. I'm a WHM main, and I take great pride in my knowledge of the class, and the implementation of its abilities. I never, repeat NEVER use medica II twice in a row. I was using SoS on cooldown pretty much, and it still wasn't enough.
Go into Titan HM with 7 friends, have them do their best NOT to dodge, and try keeping them all alive without running into mp issues. You will have issues, then you'll realize how ignorant you comment was. That statement is not a personal attack, but your comment shows that you don't fully understand WHM.
The moral of the story is mp management is just as dependent on your party members skill as your own.
Singing is part of my job. It's MY responsibility as a Bard to notice when Mages need MP or when Tanks/DPS could use some TP. Fighting a boss? Throw up Foe. Bottom line, if you aren't singing, you aren't playing your job correctly.
best way to know when to sing a song:
blm in party? sing foes if more than 2 things to kill. blm and whm? things will do so much faster.
doing a raid? used invig already? tp less than 400? mnk and dragoon may be lower, tp song time.
2-3 people just die? whm/sch are going to need to bring them back. sing that mp song.
it takes little to no thought to realize when to use a song. imo, the macros asking for songs shouldnt exist because any person with a working brain, common sense, and deductive reasoning would be able to figure out who needs what when.
Bards are like healers. If you're sitting on full MP and doing nothing with it, you're probably doing it wrong.
On that note, as a healer I always make sure I keep 30% MP in reserve. If I need ballad, I'll ask for it. I don't appreciate bards who think I'm too incompetent to manage my own MP and gimp their own damage to "help." If I'm burning MP DPSing, it's because I know I have MP to spare and I would rather have a Foe Req.
The Bard that gives you the Job and tells you how he let his team down. You can see such a nice percentage of Bards follow in his footstep but never achieved his redeemed status.
Square-Enix should really allow someone in the party the ability to click on a Bard and force them into a song for 1g.
