I don't think it would be that, because I would think that hey, the 8th Calamity went through, time for Emet to nap again, and for the Ascians to just hibernate until the Source can take another megadeath situation. In that future, the Ascians go uncontested for their 8th win against Team Hydaelyn. Kinda makes me wonder how the rest of the future calamities will go, what empire they'll make to replace Garlemald and such.

As far as our timeline goes, it's probably more accurate to say we fought and killed the Bear, and now there's a pack of suicidal hyenas. Kinda dangerous, but we're going to solve the whole Calamity problem in one fell swoop when we win. No more Ascian machinations will be possible after Endwalker. Big win.

Well it is certainly an option either way. New timeline Nero already caught wind of it and joined back up with the Ironworks to pester Cid about it (along with helping find the cure to tempering). And while not confirmed just yet, opens the door to a lot of my personal head cannon theories.

Just an example ruined by the pandemic: The meaning behind a certain lyric in Locus- a theme reused for The Twinning.

Now it was mentioned by Koji Fox that it was just a random line that he felt clicked and was catchy. In my dumb brain, I read it as a date. 7/23/23. A possible pre-pandemic 7.0 launch day. With Alexander being time travel central, I wondered if it was a major clue as to the nature of the hypothesized expansions story.

Doubtful if anything else is behind it. Just one of a bunch of long shot "what ifs" that I have. Again, ruined by the pandemic. Or is it....

Which means we are capable of caring about beings technically "lesser" than us, which Emet-Selch says is not possible for Unsundered like him.

Certainly that would be the route to take if we did any travel to the past: have our historians identify a patch of history where there are no clear records of what happened, so you can't accidentally contradict facts known in the present.

I'm just not sure that I want to see the story go there, and especially after they made a big deal of just how difficult it was to achieve the first time - and the commitment required of G'raha, besides.

The Fourth Astral Era is famously bare of history, allegedly due to the anti-intellectualism after the fall of the Allagan Empire. I admit it would be a massive troll if the story does go there and have us "fix" history during that time, since as far as I can tell nothing interesting actually happened, other than the common Eorzean alphabet being standardized. (The Miqo'te migration happened afterwards, in the Fifth Umbral Era.)

There will be 10th anniversary in next expansion. I wonder if they will decide to do something grand.

Fully agree with you there. We got to view Amaurot how Emet saw it or how he wanted to remember them. It will probably not be 100% accurate. The devs still decided to show us that not all was well either. They showed new people being unsure if its good to be there. They showed with a side quest that not only a child already has to hide their individuality but that they do fear that it would lead to bad places. Also this very same quest hinted that Ancient ones existed that did not possess the huge amount of aether to just create something, they gave us a crystal to do so.

On top of that we know from the short stories that seemingly souls existed that were so angry that they bascially had to be forced back to the livestream by Hades. Why would such a thing exist if all was great? And as you said, why would the role of Azem be needed?

I just doubt that no conflict ever happened, maybe not in Amaurot itself? Or maybe Azem just always stopped it themselves thus the view that all is perfect was kept? After all they were able to feel all the emotions we do. Which includes the negative ones too.

(I also find it fascinating that in the german translations of the story about the volcano, the people living on that island were called mortals. Just a wrongly written word or did it maybe hint that Ancients were not all on the same level?)

Also we do know that new life started with Zodiark. Where those suddenly lesser beings without that power? Could that be the origion of our races or did they exist before?

Well in the bad future we bascially died on the battlefield thanks to black rose, which means that Emet and Elidibus are still alive. In that case Fandaniel would still be under control. At the same time the world was still in a really bad form 200 years after that event since the Black rose did not just kill people but was also very bad for the land itself. So if nothing was done, a huge amount of people would have died, future generations would live a terrible life, the ascians would still be there thus the rejoining and rise of Zodiark could still happen (or maybe the source is so badly messed up that its quite lost and even though they are there, the Ascians still cant fullfill their dreams).

We do not know how bad the destruction will be. Of course people will sadly die and some countries might get hit very bad but since its an MMO and 6.x was already confirmed we know that we will win over this.

Gaia's time-slowing magic isn't the same thing as time-travelling magic though, unless you could somehow apply enough of it that time slows "into reverse" or something.

From Emet if you talk to him in-between quests:
"I took over a suitable stranger in this world, and reshaped them into this form that I am most familiar with. In contrast, Lahabrea, before he met his end at your hands, never really took the time to familiarize himself much with his vessels. Really… with how often he switched forms, it’s no surprise that his very self ended up eroding away..."
While I doubt back then they had much idea where the Ascians would end up, they've retroactively explained Lahabreas diminished power and "differing" shall we say personality and ideals to the other unsundered.
