All I see are 8 X's and 2 non-starters ^^

to the people stating 4 would have been a better option you guys are just fooling yourselves. yoshi stated himself that the inactives are not taking up space as far as the populations being full or not.
we have the option we have now they put server a and server b together so the server started full and they open space as people leave to allow other people to transfer. the vast majority gets where they are trying to go. this is the method i asked for and the method i prefer. my server stays together and we get more people to play with.
the other option if they used the same cap of active players you would have had 3-4 servers trying to go to the same server so only half that active population off each server would have gotten where they wanted to go. the other half would have been put somewhere else. ls's would have been split up and servers would have been split. it would not have only been the inactives that were affected, but the active population as well.
do i wish they had more space for people that wanted to transfer into a server or even a transfer que? yes.
i think it could have been handled a little better, but the way this merge is being done is going to make alot more people happy than the other method would have.
Like I've said before, in either option there would be people who got unlucky. In this option, large groups of people who wanted to go to a different server get the short end of the stick because there's a very limited cap; actually, in a lot of cases it seems like a large LS has tried to transfer over, with a few people getting stuck, but that ends up messing up all the individuals who were trying to transfer alone.
In the other option, people wouldn't have been as restricted because there would have been more room to transfer, although, you're right, there still would have been issues when the servers got full and people got stuck on undesirable servers.
One option is a merge with very restricted space for transfers, the other is starting fresh, so to speak. People simply took one for being the same as the other and assumed it would work out fine.
I'm not quite sure what point you were trying to make, here, but mine was that you can't compare this merger to release server selection for several reasons, namely that the drop off of players caused an uneven distribution of characters, active and inactive, across the servers. These are two different situations, in one, you're starting a game and allowing people to go wherever the heck they want, and have a relatively large member base. In the other, you're trying to merge servers because of uneven population in comparison to others, as well as allowing for more people of the same timezone to play together.Quote:
I'm no pessimist but that is way too many players for how many are likely subscribing at this moment.
Hmm well I had 2 characters, one on Rabanastre the other on Melmond. So i moved the Melmond one to Ragnarok so i can try to move my actual character to Aegis so i can play with a friend... It still didn't allow me to move. I don't really read the fourms much but if i knew it was gonna be like this then i woulda tried to pick the new server as soon as they came up.
bay posted on this. the updates are not live updates. they manually open up room once they reevaluate the populations of each server. they are doing this during jp daytime and not periodically throughout the day. one person moving out doesn't mean 1 can come in because it is done manually and not automatically.
