When I rolled male miqo'te I kept the height around the middle so he stood 65 inches tall. Now with my female one I have it set at max height. :p

I'm going for the same height as my F!Viera, as they're supposed to be 2 sides of the same coin. My F!Viera IS max height, though, so if that's not possible it's not a big deal.
I intend to do something similar for my alt, and it's actually part of the reason why I have spent so much money on fantasias for my alt that I don't even play. I used to think I could have my singular alt different from my main, but they have to be connected in some way. As the days go on I've been warming up to male viera more and more in this capacity.
Since my main is a pale veena, I'll probably make him the same: veena, pale skin, light hair. Like they are siblings, or twins. Everything would be right in the world then, and my compulsion would be sated.
I feel that it'll be allowed to rest when the expansion comes out and all feedback on male Viera can be folded into the Megathread.
...Outside of the ocassional necromancing troll, of course.
I'll set it to my height irl (6') if i still like male viera, so yeah... Close to min lol.
I like to share things with my characters (hair color and skin color even it's not that close lol) and since i didn't like other races that mutch (especially for the males xD) i just went with miqote max height.
I try to make my characters their own unique things, otherwise I couldn't play as dark elves or my gray mooncat. If I made them all look like me it'd be kind of boring, they'd all have dark hair and light skin. :P
My female viera is only height 30 on the slider - which I am pretty sure is just slightly shorter than a max height midlander man. My male alt would probably be maxed out unless they do that slider some people supposedly want, and end up being like 7' feet tall. There's such a thing as too tall.. It's the reason I was satisfied by their height after the later comparisons had them at about female viera height. He'd be taller than my main viera girl no matter what really.
Btw, guys. When the benchwork is going to be released for the male viera? Sorry, but I'm new to all of this.
Looks like just a little over a month before the expac release
at least that was what the shb benchmark did
Yea looking around September to October time for benchmark based on previous ones.
I just wanted to show overwhelming gratitude to the devs for making this happen. Thank you. I cannot express how happy I am. I have already watched the trailer countless times and I cannot wait for the benchmark to make my bunny boy.
One bunny boy alt will be max the other around middle height I think
I really want to make my male viera as cute as possible! I'm really happy with their looks because of that! I usually use cute glams on my hrothgar, so I'm really excited to see what I'll be able to do with my bunny boy! :3
Some additional lore on male Viera from Matsuno (which was translated by Reddit Discord team by my request and you can find it in their translation and live letters channel):
https://twitter.com/YasumiMatsuno/st...75434538340354
Translation:
Quote:
- The sex is determined at birth, but both Female and Male look the same so there is no way to distinguish between them
- During puberty, the changes to the bodies become more apparent and only then you're able to clearly tell their sex
- After coming of age (around 20 years old), ageing becomes extremely slow and they get older while keeping their young appearance
Quote:
Some additional information from the replies, questions he answered:
Q: "There is no way to distinguish between them" so that means we can't tell their sex even if they were naked?
Y: Yes, exactly
Q: Do the same settings apply to the Viera from Ivalice (like in FF12 or FFTA)? Or is this a FF14 original setting?
A: The general settings are the same as in FF12, but I quit FF12 before we had the opportunity to publish these. So if you're asking whether this is an official FF12 setting, I'd have to say no.
Q: If we can't tell their sex by their appearance, but young Male Viera leave their village for their apprenticeship, does that mean there is another way to tell their sex?
A: There is a misunderstanding. They will only leave the village once their sex is apparent. You are probably asking this because you read "young" Viera, but because of their longevity, these "young" Viera whos sex just became apparent are seen as "young Children" by the other Viera
Q: What about their gender identity? Do they not have that on their mind while growing up?
A: They do not think about it until puberty starts
Q: So are they just accepting it after puberty? It sounds scary to me that onces they are old enough, they are suddenly being told "You're Male, you have to leave the village now"
A: For us a big influence while growing up is our environment, "As a girl/boy this is what you have to do and how you have to behave". In that sense, Viera aren't raised like that. Their approach to education and raising keeps this in mind. The surrounding enviroment is different to our present age.
Q: Are you going to play Male Viera in 6.0?
A: I am playing a Female Viera right now, but I will swap to a Male Viera in 6.0
Q: How old is Fran?
A: I can't tell you that....
Never ask a lady's age.
I always knew female vieras canonically had one.
Looking at his answers, it seems that it's based on irl bunnies to an extend, since they are indistinguishable until they're ready to mate, too. That's an interesting society indeed.
Ah, so the speculation that it has to do with certain body parts and how or when they manifest was correct. Considering that humans don't become distinctive until puberty either, when hormones kick in, it was always odd to me, but now it's clearer as to why. So the way I am reading it is that their sex is determined at birth (biologically) but isn't apparent; there are no cultural differences between them until puberty but after that point, and certainly once they're paired with a mentor, it all changes.
How they can't see the difference down there when they're young? Are they just barbie dolls there then when they're 20 suddenly something sprouts?
But if they're so indistinguishable from females, it makes sense how their faces look so similar ingame. Also would make sense if they have similar heights.
20 is their coming of age, which isn't equal to puberty (in case if it was confusing, his answers about puberty and 20 years are unrelated to each other, those are two different points). ~20 is when they're considered adults (which is also the age of coming in Japan, so I can see why Matsuno picked this). That said, puberty is more likely closer to human's 11-16 years (it was said somewhere earlier that it's around 13? likely still stands this way).
As to how they're indistinguishable even when naked... some mammals are, infact, indistinguishable until their maturity (including bunnies), so maybe it's the case here as well. I would assume that changes start first inside their body and then become apparent outside as well. Maybe they do have a hole or something that is later developed into their secondary characteristics, but it's hard to guess further than that without more info honestly (and I'm not even sure it's a proper topic for forums).
20 is when their apparent age remains the same till hundreds of years, puberty is before that, but yeah that's pretty much what's implied tbh, or perhaps it's really... small and similar to the other.
None of this lore really goes against what we already knew which stated their puberty to be around 13, so maybe that still stands.
Interesting. So, I'm guessing that the Viera from the Ivalice universe share common things with the Viera of FFXIV, right? I know that the two clans of the Viera race had the same skin colorations and etc while the clans in the FFXIV universe have different skin tones. It does makes me wonder if the hair colorations of the viera in the FFXIV universe is natural or dyed because they're the latter in XXII according to the manual of the game back in 2006 which their natural hair color is white or silver but dye their hair when living in human settlements. Judging from some people here told me, it's likely the former and not the latter.
Hope we get a benchmark with the option to create Bunnyboi's but that seems unlikely.
Couldn't the developers just tell us the height scale range? I dont think its too much to ask for ahead of time to know.
We'll likely get a benchmark, but it won't be for a while. Probably not until about a month or even less before launch. None of the zones were even in a state to preview in the latest fan-fest.
The Benchmark isn't a special trailer that they do for fun, it serves an important function. It lets people know how well they'll be able to run the game in the new content areas.
I’m excited to see what their hairstyle options will be.
Female Viera have 8 different hairstyle options. 7 of those options come with 2 variants, and one comes with 3 (including a helmeted variant).

Notice how the official illustration art features 3 of those hairstyles.
I’m not sure if male Viera will have as many variants aside from the helmeted one, but I think they will get at least 8 different hairstyle options.
Looking at the trailer and official images, it seems 5 have already been revealed.
This hairstyle was featured extensively in the trailer. They also gave us a look at how it would appear with additional dye.

Though this hairstyle was not featured in the trailer, it is featured in the official male Veena render art. I think it’s safe to say that this hairstyle will be available as a playable option.

This hairstyle was featured briefly in the trailer. It is a shorter style, and might end up being the shortest option.

This one was also featured briefly in the trailer. It is on the shorter side, but is also more elaborate.

Despite this hairstyle being obscured by the helmet, it is clearly different from the other hairstyles we’ve seen. It seems this will be a helmeted variant of the hairstyle featured in the official illustration art.

If there is a total of 8 hairstyle options for male Viera, that means 3 haven’t been revealed yet. What do you think, or hope, they’ll be? And out of the ones we've seen so far, which one's your favorite?
All I'm seeing here are resources that could have been spent on 8 more female viera hairstyles - with resources to spare (as in new male hrothgar heads/hairs too). I hope you all like your hairstyles, because that's all they are getting for the next couple years, and they definitely aren't getting hats. probably.
I'm REALLY hoping none of the "male" hairstyles are gender-locked. Even the "short, messy bob" doesn't look like a Female Viera couldn't use it. Heck, the female Viera short hairstyle already looks more boyish than that one.
From the hairstyles we've seen, the braided one is veeeery pretty, I wish we could see it from other angles.
It would be strange if female Viera gets bangs/no bangs option and male Viera doesn't. Hopefully they give us the no bangs look; as that is the popular/iconic Fran/FFXII Viera look.
I know the devs had to make a really difficult decision, and I think they made the decision they felt would make more players happy, and that was to make male Viera playable.
I know that it must've taken a lot of time and effort. And I know they'll have their hands full with female Hrothgar as well and this too will impact hairstyle options for Viera (both male and female).
With that being said, however, I would prefer they prioritize female Hrothgar over new hairstyles (even when I myself play as male Viera), simply because I believe genderlocking races should never be a thing (just like how genderlocking or racelocking classes/jobs should never be a thing). I trust that we'll have more options; things just have to happen at the right time.
I think it's the decision they thought would make them more money. Another limited race: more fantasia sales. No hairs: more fantasia sales. Female hrothgar a race relatively NOBODY will play, that will probably have the same amount of issues the (seemingly ignored) male hrothgar have, requiring fantasia to even change their singular hair.
I'm sorry, BUT WHO CARES if viera and hrothgar were gender locked?! Like seriously. Viera were chosen over femhroth initially, and put on the backburner for male viera BECAUSE it's a big female furry race, that only a small niche will actually play, in my opinion. They stated female viera/male hroth was "the last chance" to add any new races to this game, yet out of left field they come out with male viera. Probably to satisfy a loud minority who spam them relentlessly over twitch, twitter, youtube, whatever. One hit wonder race, that will, ironically, be there as a 'SURPRISE' selling point for EW, because I don't see much else super exciting. ShB overall as an expansion was a joke (not the story), in my opinion. Everything feels half done, including the races.
They have to have meetings just to figure out how they can more easily allocate resources for hairstyles, here's a suggestion of mine: How about not add male viera, promise female hrothgar, after also promising to add additional hairstyles, or customization options for female viera/male hrothgar two years prior! In my opinion.
*Looks at 2 threads that each broke 1k likes, one which nears 2k, questions being asked every other interview, a couple of streaming personalities, and more*
...enough people, it seems.
I'll try to say this as kindly and neutrally as possible but... you may want to take a step back and a little break because obviously the subject of Viera hairstyles is too important to you, but it doesn't mean you can shout down other people who got what they were hoping for for 2 years.
Yes, and? How many of those likes do you think will actually play male viera, or eventually female hrothgar? Even if every single like DID, 2k is NOTHING. Besides I highly doubt the devs actually read the English subforums, frankly.
Am I not allowed to give my opinion on a public forum anymore? If people don't want to see my opinions, they can blacklist me.
Also, I have included male hrothgar in every single one of my posts on this subject, it isn't just about hairstyles for female viera.
