Dawntrail character graphics update - opinions, requests and discussion megathread

I know it's unlikely that anything will be changed at this point, but they did make some minor changes for 7.5, so I can't fully give up hope. I would just like to take a moment to lament the m elezen mouth. I use mouth 3, and the curves are very different from how they were (not sure about 3/4, but face 1 has this problem too).

I think the makeup diffuse on m elezen face 102, the upper lip looks very pointy compared to the endwalker version. And the lower lip is a bit thinner and wider, but I don't think that one is a texture issue. It's very noticeable when he smiles, like in the third set of images, so I think it's probably due to the bone placement/animation.

I also don't like that the shape of the eyes (eye option 3) is subtly different (the inner corner/upper lid particularly), changing his vibe completely.

Anyway, I wish I had known where to find the old Endwalker benchmark back when DT released, maybe this post might've made a difference then. Alas.

And here on the left is the 7.0 version with a new eye color and lip color. They looked so different I just had to change them. On the right is the current 7.5 version.

Noticeable changes made here! Once again I reiterate that we would like much more open communication from the team regarding these fixes.

I do think the overall package in Dawntrail is superior to Endwalker and earlier, but it doesn't matter when you had a very specific look that just isn't possible anymore.

I do think it hit Au Ra the hardest.

Not to be contrarian, because Au Ra absolutely got a rough ride through the GFX update...

But femroe are completely, utterly alien in comparison to their original 10 year running design. One of the defining racial traits for one of the clans only had its opacity fixed by 7.3 but we're still so far from what we were that its maddening.

Please don't forget the lesser played races had basically zero care put into their porting of the new mesh rigging, and we're fighting insanely hard to be heard amongst the more played races such as au ra and hyur who also got botched. While Yoshida and the dev team was bringing up au ra and miqo issues directly in PLLs based on feedback, we have been entirely ignored for trying to provide feedback since 2023 when we first got a very clear visual of the eye change. Everyone got screwed over, but you guys have a chance of being heard.

It's a straight up mess all round and I seriously hope their attempt at bandaiding things in 8.0 (allegedly) is an actual productive step forward since the one year of radio silence after Yoshida's update despite major requests, especially JP side, for some measure of timeline or idea of what is in the pipeline at all so we have something to actually have as a goal post.

Yeah, I recall you showing the gif at how her eyebrows are basically cracked in half when doing certain emotes because the new mesh doesn't play nice with that facial sculpt's very sharp brows.

I also recall getting into arguments over my fav Miqo'te face that I genuinely adored with the DT update... Only to watch them change how her brows emoted and the face I got attached to got warped to their delight.

It's a catch 22, I swear.

Coming back to this thread because I've been doing some sidequests and man... the expression rigging is ROUGH. f!miqo face 3, f!roe have borked eyebrows. f!miqo face 4 also has some weirdly pouty expressions, the mouth should be stretched wider when teeth are showing. m!auri faces are all over the place. There's also this weird inconsistency where the jaw will go down for just a second before closing the mouth again to change expressions in some cutscenes when advancing dialogue. There's a notable difference from MSQ, likely because there was more attention-to-detail there.

Time to re-post how Fem Miqo'te Face 3 Mouth 4 looked in Endwalker Versus how it looks now. :(

I wish that I could somehow go back in time to Endwalker and stop the Graphics Update from ever happening. I miss the old Feathetaria, and I miss the old lighting in housing designs when it comes to Water Refraction Effects and Moonlight at night shining through Stained furnishings.

Water refraction in housing builds looks like crap now and it used to look amazing.

Why does Creative Studio III hate full upper lips so much? So many mouths were altered in the same manner.

FFXIV Mobile is ending service in China and the global version has been cancelled, R.I.P another take on modernized Au Ra.

Another FanFest, another likely disappointment.

i thought that the squiqqlies under miqo eyes and lala and viera poop noses were natural pigmentation
