i like my guy a lot i'm glad they actually have scars and one of the face actually has a freckle option the bears are weird but they are for everyone but Roe and High lander anyway

After playing with the benchmark... might become a dude which I've never done before lol. Also female Viera's need a total revamp on their tattoos.

Well......

My laptop managed to handle the Endwalker benchmark, so I made a male Viera.

This is the biggest beard they can have. 3 out of 4 faces can have facial hair, which is more than I expected, but the other two faces aren't as impressive. Consider that to be my complaint.

Regardless, I like the way I made this guy look.

I won't play a male viera - although I have to admit, I am tempted - because I just prefer to play females. Some of my retainers however, will look like this fella for sure.

Definitely, but we've actually seen something now so that's more progress than we've had so far. I'm cautiously optimistic :p

Shame they aren't in the benchmark so we can get an idea of what we're getting, but I guess buyable/earnable ones never are.

tbh, I think the devs did a perfect male favoured adrogynous male race (its 5am, forgive my spelling). I don't think there's really any other mmo or game that can bring this level to the table. SE may have just reinvented pretty boy in games.

Not really into the pretty boy scene myself but this face is gorgeous, and like I said the tattoos are so cool compared to females. Hairstyles with the braids, accs all look nice as well :o

I didn't feel the same level of 'Oooohh ahhhh' from my female Viera as I have with my Male Viera- the male viera just seem more put together; I prefer the level of detail on their ears & their tattoo's are really awesome.
Female Viera in FFXIV lacked the same magic from the start- they couldn't compete with Fran & her sisters from FFXII IMO & are upstaged by male Viera now-
but still, I do love my bunny girls (only when they actually look good though)

It makes me wonder if the other races will get an update

One of the others looks like Omega-M and one in the livestream yesterday reminded me of Zenos.

I'm greatly biased, so it's hard for me to compare as I'm naturally inclined towards male characters, but as I said when female viera first came out is that they are too supermodely and strayed a bit from the aethestic of FFXII viera.
Perhaps because SE were allowed to interpret male viera as they see fit that it seems more complete rather than working from a template ? The feeling they give off is far different than the feeling male viera give off.
I personally don't think male viera are upstaging. I think they are equals in terms of gorgeousness at the end of the day.

I agree! Face 4 is a popular one. If ever they decide, they should imo give unisex styles to each gender.

They're quite a bit wider and have more muscular arms than people made them out to be originally, I guess the racial armor obscured the shape a bit.

I saw a lot of comments saying their bodies were slimmer and "softer"-looking than female Viera, but other than a slightly more nipped waist it looks like they're very close to male Midlander's body and proportions.

I think that part of this is because the Females already had previous incarnations and standards to live up to.
Where the males is brand new in FF and didn't really have anything to compare with so it's easier to go "wow" since we don't have the "But the Males from FFxx looked better" approach.
You even mentioned what I am refering to when you brought up Fran and the sister.

Ohhh I'm going to have so much fun calling male Viera 'just taller Miqo/reskinned Middie' for all the times Hroths were called 'just Roes with lion heads'

Do Hroth's use the Roe model? I never actually noticed, though I don't see Roe's often. Both their bodies look very distinct to my blind eyes.

As far as I'm aware, they do. You can group body models like so: [Midlander, Miqo, Au Ra, Elezen, Viera(?)] [Roe, Hroth] [Highlander] [Lalafell], applies to both males and females. I'm pretty sure vieras use the midlander body base, but not 100% sure. Also not sure where femroes stand.

They do – you can see they have the same hempen set and share a lot of their emotes.

That's true to an extent, but Viera are specifically derived from Midlander – again sharing that model's hempen set and emotes where the other races each have something unique.

Hempen camise yes (which is more so laziness than anything else ), but what emotes are shared?

Mostly the 'universal' ones like /grovel, /pray, /handover, etc. I assume, I don't recall them having similar emotes outside those, if anything, Roes have a few emotes that'd look better on a Hroth lol (I'm looking at you, /furious)

Generally a lot of the less important ones, though the really distinct one I can think of right now is one that I'm not sure is available to players – the sort of lecturing finger-waggle emote. But I don't have a Viera myself so I can't make a list of which ones are the same; I just know I recognise a fair few of them in cutscenes as being Midlander-specific.

Likewise I don't have a male Roegadyn or Hrothgar but I think they have some distinct shared motions that the other races don't have.

It also helps that they were working one one character model instead of two completely different ones at the same time.

Also holy crap, just from the ones shown, their emotes are gorgeous! The female viera are far FAR too reserved for me. There's subtle, and then there's bland. :T

I'm pretty sure most races use midlander animations in cutscenes. From what I can tell emote wise, aside from the ones shared by everyone else all of them are unique to fem viera

I've never seen any other race use the emote I'm talking about, including my female Roegadyn alt character. I'm quite sure it's Midlander-and-Viera specific.
