Optimization is under way for sure but i hope also in some kind of overhauls to introduce dx10 features too. Eorzea needs to be less "woody" and with more immersive effects (enviroment shadows, first of all).

just wanted to add; they are doing an almost complete rework on the engine. Its just a separate dev team from what I hear. Its being worked on side by side with the Ps3 prep; therefore probably why no so much news on it; although a dev did mention something similar to what I just said; and that they are different teams so doesn't know the info because said team is under wraps. They are not only working on fixing many things (streamlining but also actually completely revamping from scratch 80% of FFxiv so Im sure there's lots of testing/info that just isn't released because that would be far to much speculation.
PLEAAASE! look into this. My brand new laptop which has worked fine playing this game for 5months is now turning off after 15 mins of playing.
I can only assume it's over heating and i'm SOL unless there's performance changes being done.
No taxation without optimisation
The problem it works so horribly on the PC, is in fact because it will run so well on the PS3, FFXIV was actually developed in Crystal Tools, an SDK developed primarily for PS3 and 360, (the first game to be made in it was FFXIII, later XIV, and in the future XIII Vs) what we're playing is essentially a port of the console version, it will be fine on the PS3, the problem is is that it isn't fine on the PC, concentrate on that, the Console version will be fine.
Square-Enix have always made shoddy PC ports or had Eidos or EA make the shoddy port for them. Anyone remember FFVII and FFVIII on PC? You could literally not hear the lyrics on one winged angel unless you had this specific sound blaster sound card.
