I share your sentiment on this, at least for the most part. It's nothing special for the FF XIV community. However, it is significant for WoW's. It's not because he's trying FF XIV. It is because he was almost exclusively a WoW player up until now and he trashed FF XIV to heck and back for years. It's not entirely about the person, it's about the message. Personally, I don't care whether he comes here or not. I don't particularly like the guy, but at the end of the day it's a non issue for me. If he's trying to send Blizzard a message though I'm all for it. I watch a few youtubers but I wouldn't say I'm an actual fan of any of them. Their content is just fun for me to watch sometimes, so I do. Asmongold is not one of them though. I know he's a bit of a big deal. I just don't care.

I’m kind of confused with this whole argument. He says it’s nothing special yes, but that’s in regards to his mindset of he’s just playing the game. However, i’d say it’s pretty dang special considering SE went out of their way to comment on the fact he’s coming to try their game. It’s the underlying tones that make it special. Him, a very popular streamer with a very wide audience is coming to try the game. He’s bringing major attention to the game and also money. This is a huge thing for SE just because of how famous he is. That, in my opinion makes him and the situation special. It’s the circumstances of the entire thing. Please don’t call me like, obsessed with him or anything because i honestly can’t really stand his “persona”, i’ve never watched his youtube vids though where he’s apparently normal so i won’t comment too much, but overall i do think this entire situation is special, and it is because of him that makes it so.

You are jealous. Because of the simple fact that you cannot get yourself to admit that people can be considered special because of their achievements. Your own personal view point has no significance. If you were truly neutral or don't even care about the person, you wouldn't dismiss his achievements as nothing special. And yes, you do seem to be the type of person who would look at any successful person and try to convince yourself that they're nothing special and yet, you're not even as successful as they are in the first place. You reek of jealously rofl.

Use your brain, 5head! If someone's truly neutral about something, they won't dismiss any facts as being insignificant on their own accord. When you're jealous from someone, you immediately refuse to even admit any of their achievements and belittle them as much as possible.

Asmongold says: I don't play FFXIV cause you guys are going to overblow the crud out of it when I do.

He finally decides to try it.. and guess what happens?

The guy is a genuine oldschool chronic (in the habit sense not the drug) gamer who likes what he likes.. if he finds something he likes in FFXIV cool, if he can't stand the rest of it.. COOL.

If nothing else his large platform will at least bring some gamers over who might not have even tried it.

the rest of the blind fanboys can post all the hate they want, it's not like them saying FFXIV sucks.. makes it suck.

Because one side simply wants to be left alone. What some people call gatekeeping is merely an expression that they don't want to interact with a perception of a type of individual. It's mostly unfounded, and is definitely bad when taken to the extreme (like many things are), and should be countered with education to address any fear of having anyone joining the community.

The other side, who can just simply be the better side and counter that negative perception, also decide to spite that part of the community.

And regardless of who is targeted, using GCBTW is an indictment on the whole community and paints a bad light on the whole from an outsider's point of view. It's the kind of thing that makes people think the WoW community is toxic whereas many people can find great relationships due to being part of that community.

If you have a problem with certain types of people, deal with them directly. Don't be lazy and meme at them at the community's expanse, because that's what GCBTW.

And yes, it is a great community, by the way, and you're part of this great community, just as I am, and other people as well, some good, some bad. Such is life.
