The US has a lot of influence on both world politics and makes up a large portion of 'gamers'. It makes sense that there is bleed through. However, the site I was referring was host to world politics, especially British or EU topics, as there were a lot of users from that region. Now I do agree that real world politics should be - mostly - isolated to their own sections (of a general forum, not like here being specifically about FFXIV), and/or should only be addressed if it's relevant to the topic or something appearing in the game. The problem is politics has the tendency to get tempers raging on whatever side (or not) one may be, and quickly devolve into insult wars and personal attacks. It requires heavy moderation for actual discourse to happen, and even then it's touchy, as one side or the other will claim moderation is biased. It's usually easier to not allow it entirely.
English forums definitely need somebody. Even just placing a warning in certain threads would go a long way, or just more interactions like for popular requests.
