Finally sector 7 discovered !!!! :D and sector 14 too^^
Little update, we also found Sector 19 from 15. Although I wasn't there to confirm it, one of my FC officers finalized the report for me
Soooo..... WTF IS MY AIRSHIP DOING?

How the hell did I unlock sector 11 two levels early and yet my retard airship still cant unlock 7-8 for a 2nd airship....? (or 9-10 for that matter >.<)
Flight details:
Path was 2, 5, 6
This was using invincible hull and aftcastle, and enterprise rigging and forecastle.
Weather for sector 2 "high winds" for the first item, but "violent turbulence" for the second item found
Weather for sector 5 "violent turbulence" and resulted in only one item found
Weather for sector 6 was "no wind or turbulence found" for the first item, but "violent turbulence" for the second item found
NO "sector unlocked" message in voyage log... only found out I unlocked 11 after finalising the report
If there was a word for "fear of travelling in a north eastern direction".. thats what my airship would be S:
Sector 11 is an odd one and is usually unlocked early before you have rank high enough to go there.
Keep sending it to sector 05 and eventually 7 will unlock, and from 7 you'll unlock 8.
Some of the reports I'm reading here seem really interesting. There appear to be some ships out there that are really well built and high ranks that have a really bad time getting new sectors while there are other less upgraded ships finding things.
Some questions for those having trouble:
1. Is the ship being sent back out as soon as it comes back or are there usually delays between? (i.e. is this a matter of number of flights?)
2. Would it make sense that slower ships (less upgraded riggings) have slower flights and "allow" for more time for that stupid mammet to potentially see new sectors between sectors? (speculation here from hearing some ship builds/rank)
Still trying to figure out a good way to use the airship spreadsheet data to try to determine if ship stats help but like others have said, I think we'd need massive amounts of data with controlled other variables to tell a difference. If anyone has any ideas please share!
Be careful drawing conclusions from small datasets. RNG is RNG - some people could just be getting unlucky. Looking at the data on the spreadsheet, which is still a small dataset, I'm not seeing anything that clearly influences sector discovery. Yes, some people did do a stat upgrade/downgrade and then immediately find a sector. Others have done the same and not found a new sector. Some have kept their stats the same, doing the same route, and eventually found the new sector.
Btw, the only strong correlation I've found so far from mining the data is that higher favor stat correlates with higher per-sector ratings. That could be because another stat is also high, like survey, and not be related directly to favor at all, but that correlation was clear. I also did a check for rank vs ratings and I didn't see a strong correlation there at all. The ratings were kinda all over the place with various rank ranges. Still, this is with a relatively small dataset (a few hundred voyages).
Also, our data for Retrieval scores may be off =\ I hadn't realized until this weekend that there were two more possibilities - "sub-normal" and "low" - so those weren't options in the chart until now...
Yeah, I'm with you on not jumping to conclusions. I'd like to optimally sift through the data to find trips with and without discovering sectors and then compare their stats but unfortunately all of the data is confounded by other stats, rank and changing ship parts. Because of this, no two flights are really ever the same and so they can't be directly compared. I realize that some people are going to get the short end of the stick with RNG but it'd be nice to know that it's only RNG and that there's nothing else they could do. It's also somewhat convoluted in that sectors can only be discovered once which limits the total number of data points we can really get for it.
Yeah... Since we have the current sector unlocks in a standard format, we could put the unlocked sectors into a standard format as well in a new column, and then run a formula that only looked at unlock possibilities, but I don't even know what qualities to test against...
Oh, wait a minute, is "Survey Time" affected by the Survey stat? I just realized it wasn't fixed, but seems to be related to a stat (I think it's survey, not speed) and the sector's rating.
