I wondered why you posted that link here. Good read.
Somehow related: I don't mind playing with people who don't know what to do as long as they are willing to learn.
where is SGD ppl's "Doppelganger Screenshot Contest" entries? you guys are more creative.
Lots duplicated/ not-even-Doppelganger submissions there. :/
/gasp bad avatar! bad! it reveals my secret. :O
Every time I find myself in Upper La Noscea by Memeroon's trading post, I feel like I have to stop. Be it to fish, or just to sit. I fished through the same fate 4 times just to listen.
The music in this game. <3

I just read that post!
Yes! I keep telling people this: most of the "bad" players just need more time and practice, and maybe help/advice. When I come across a person that is new, doesn't understand things, I try and help, even though I myself am new to this kind of game. I still am trying to figure it all out, but that gives me perspective.
I hear people say things about how they "know" a group won't work if they wipe on such an "easy" mechanic/boss, and I just wince.. Because usually they are talking about a mechanic that took me multiple tries and many wipes to figure out. Had people been the same with me, I never would have learned.
I found Cesil Rapture today. (^_^ )

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!!
*peeks around the corner into the thread, turns around to leave, turns around again and takes a deep breath*
Aaaand I did it, after 2 weeks I managed to read through both SGD threads! And I still have my sanity! ...probably ...I think. The little Miqo'te would tell me if I was going crazy, right? Right?
*wipes sweat off brow, opens mouth, closes it again and takes another deep breath*
So, umm... hello people who don't know me ...yet I feel like I know you from reading all those posts.
This ...is awkward. I wonder if stalkers feel this way.
*fidgets*
So, greetings from my little corner of Germany. I promise I don't bite. Much. Unless asked to.
I don't do a lot of art, mostly because my projects take forever because I obsess over every little detail. I can't compete with the talent in this thread but I'll put two pieces I don't hate into the spoiler.

This is a frog I did in acrylic paint after copying the motif from a template.

This is a selfportrait I did using pencils.
My outlet for my creativity shifted to cooking as that's faster for me. And yummy.
So with it being pumpkin day and all, here's the filled pumpkin I had last week.

Gosh, look at me rant. I'll just stop here for now.
*runs off and hides around the corner, carefully peeking back*
edit: Do the pictures actually work? I'm new to this...
I always go out of my way to help ppl cause that's what brings me fun in MMOs. That story did stab me right in the feels. ;_;
Me too! I swear there are no brown skinned moon cat NPCs in Eorzea!
New person! *pounces and starts another SGD hugpile* Welcome! *hugs*
Wooooowwww that pumpkin dish looks super tasty Astrus~ *q*
(And I'm super picky about foods, so that's a really good thing!)
And who needs sanity anyway? More fun to be a little loopy, right?
Uhh.... uhm... I'm just gonna hide more now. :D *scoots back under box*
eta: and those drawings are good, I like them, tis better then what I manage to do trying to draw things like that. I'm only good at little tiny cartoon people. :D
What everyone else said and more, Astrus! I like you already :3
(Om nom nom nom nom...Yes I am secretly eating your food)
@_@ My doctor said no more hugpiles for me. The last time a roegadyn mistook me for a stepping stool. Oof!
Thank you all for the kind words.
*stares intently at the ball of yarn*
"Ah, my spherical adversary our paths cross once again!
Let us once again do battle on this field of honor."
*bats the ball into the corner of the room*
"A-ha! Your flight is for naught for I will hunt you down!"
*pounce*
"Take this vile construct of yarn!"
*furious batting and chasing*
*the ball comes to rest in a corner*
"AhaHaHaHaHaHa! Well fought, I will let you go with your life intact today - for I ..."
*pants*
"...iz ze tired."

So turns out I couldn't sleep so I started writing my characters backstory down.
Would you mind giving it a read and tell me how it fits into lore? I didn't play 1.0 so I had to make a lot of assumptions.
Fair word of warning: it turned out kinda long.
Her name is Cedora Dunkelsonn - that's Darksun to you english speaking folks
She has no recollection of her early childhood or how she, a Seeker of the Sun of about 7 years, ended up all alone in the Black Shroud where it all began. The only things she remembers is a name, "C'yugi Tia," and a sash of red cloth.
The old Hyur, Nimble Quentyn, named for his stiff leg, chanced upon her there as she was wandering through a grove of cedars lost, tired and hungry.
He gained her friendship with a handful of salted antelope meat.
When it became clear that the girl didn't know from whence she came or where to go he offered to take her along on his journeys through the city states selling his wares. For he was, as he explained, a wandering peddler selling miscellania wherever the opportunity arose. As he needed something to call her by and she couldn't remember her name he made a gift of one to her. He called her Cedora, in likeness to the trees surrounding them. The other names he would give her during the months of their journey included girl, wayward kitten and, at one point, vile beast.
Life was enjoyable as they made their way across Eorzea, selling their wares wherever they were allowed and people were willing to buy.
She learned things from Quentyn then. He taught her the art of bartering so customers would even part with their coin willingly for shiny baubles and polished pebbles. And he taught her a bit of sleight of hand for when their customers proved more attached to the contents of their purses.
She was happy then and might have been a trader today if they had never made their way to La Noscea.
They were in Aleport then. Had been for a few days in fact.
Quentyn was showing his wares to a customer outside their inn while she relieved a fisherman who'd fallen asleep waiting for something to bite of his meager purse. Quentyn was showing the young man a pair of copper earrings, holding them up into the setting sun to make them glint when he suddenly tensed up for a moment as something in the inn's common room caught his eye.
He sold the earrings for the first price the man offered which was odd. It was still more than they were actually worth but not even half of what Quentyn usually took from his victims. He beckoned her over then and sent her up to their room while he went over to two grizzled looking Roegadyn sitting at a table at the end of the room. She thought it odd but did as she was told.
Half an hour later Quentyn came up to their room, one of the Roegadyn in tow who stopped outside the door. "Listen girl," Quentyn said walking over to her, "you will go along with my big friend here." The look he had in his eyes then froze her heart solid.
"What? But ...why!?"
"Listen up. I reckon if I didn't take you in back when I did you'd be well dead and gone by now. You owe your life to me so it's mine to do with as I like."
He leaned closer. "We spent months together, you should know by now that there's nothing Nimble Quentyn owns he won't part with for the right price."
His voice turned to a whisper now. "It just so happens that I owe the captain of my friend here a substantial amount of money. He might be a bit cross with me for that, might want to put my head on a pike, but don't you worry, we have come to an agreement regarding that. I sold you girl. I saved your live and now you'll save mine."
At that she tried to run but he grabbed her arm. Then her mind went blank.
The next thing she knew the room's window was broken, she was out on the street and heard Quentyn shouting. "The vile beast bit me! Don't just stand there you oaf, go and get her. It ain't my fault if the captain's merchandise runs off."
Her memory after that is hazy. She must have managed to give them the slip and stow away on the ferry to Limsa Lominsa for that's where she spent her next years stealing and scavenging what she could to keep herself alive under the other urchins. She also learned to defend herself then, with the only weapons she had: her bare hands and feet.
So the years passed until she started being too big for a lot of her hiding places and started drawing the looks of unsavory company. She decided to leave Limsa Lominsa then but had no idea where to go.
On her first night out of the city on the road leading her towards the unknown the dreams started. It was the same dream every night but all she could remember come morning was the back of a tall figure with a red sash starting to glow with an ever intensifying light until everything was blinding white. She would always wake up then, a half remembered memory stirring at the back of her head.
And then, as sure as the dream would find her every night, a feeling of dread would overcome her every time she woke from the dream.
She couldn't have picked a worse time to be out on the road. It had been raining without pause for days, there was a war going on and the people she overheard were convinced the world was coming to an end or something grim like that. The road was no good. She travelled off the road until she found a small cave hidden in a cliff she could hole up in until the world stopped being crazy.
The dreams didn't help. Every night they came and while each seemed to be just a little longer than the last and the feeling of dread grew worse she still couldn't recall that memory tickling the back of her head.
Tonight's dream feels different. Somehow more real.
There's the big figure with the red sash. This time she can see a little of the surrounding area before the light becomes too bright.
Seems to be some sort of battlefield.
She extends her hand to touch the figures shoulder. Slowly it begins to turn towards her.
The light stings in her eyes but she can almost see a face now.
Just a little more...
She's squinting, trying to see against the blinding light...
She woke up with tears in her eyes and stars dancing before her. Her head felt like it was going to burst.
"Yugi?"
Everyone elses world came to an end that day. The seventh umbral era was upon us. Yet she was strangely happy she finally had a clue where to turn her steps.
Finding the Coerl tribe in all this chaos proved difficult. Finding someone who would talk to her and knew anything pertaining to C'yugi Tia proved harder yet.
For some reason it wasn't uncommon for her to explain her situation to a member of the tribe only to see a flicker of recognition in their eyes before they'd refuse to talk to her any further and started shunning her.
They'd start whispering behind her back and soon there'd be almost nobody left willing to even look at her, it almost felt like they were afraid of her. At least they hadn't thrown her out yet.
She finally found an old woman who'd hear her out. She couldn't remember any C'yugi and half of what she said didn't make any sense.
If the old woman wasn't outright crazy she might be able to shed some light into Cedoras past though.
If she was to be believed Cedora might have been born into this tribe.
The tale went that she was born during a solar eclipse, her mother died during childbirth.
Apparently these two facts combined made her some kind of bad omen and the tribe decided to cast her out. They didn't even name her as she was expected to die soon anyway.
Yet for some reason the elder couldn't or wouldn't explain a young man of the tribe decided to take care of the babe and took her away with him. Or did he? The old woman wasn't sure about that part.
She couldn't get any more out of her after that.
"That young man, what was his name? Did he have a sash of red cloth? My mother may be dead but what of my sire?" the questions burst out of her.
"I will speak with you no more. The dark sun was the harbinger of all this. You being here now after the calamity hit us proves it. Leave."
"Dark sun. i like it. You didn't see fit to give me a name so I will take my own. I'll show all of you that this is not my fault."
Having overstayed her welcome she left the tribe, setting out on her journey to find more clues about the man who took her away from these people.
She had gained a second name, and a second wound on her heart.
She wondered if the two always went hand in hand.
The next five years she spent wandering the rebuilding city states inquiring after a young male Miqo'te travelling with an infant girl.
She didn't find much to work with. Most of the people who first said they knew something found they knew nothing at all when they tried to remember. Some could even remember a whole day in vivid details yet when they turned their attention to the man she seeks everything starts getting fuzzy.
She pieced enough information together to infer he was probably at Cartenau but the tral just vanishes there with all the chaos and destruction.
Her latest lead takes her to Ul'dah.
This is who she is now.
A silent woman of few words, always trying to blend into the background while chasing after a ghost.
She deeply mistrusts strangers but is fiercely loyal to the few friends who managed to enter her ironclad heart.
To be honest she's not sure if she's cut out for this whole adventurer business.
Why step up and draw attention to yourself just to help someone being attacked in the street when you can just snap a neck in a dark room at night to stop the problem at its source?
But it seems she has to travel around looking for clues about C'yugi anyway and adventuring pays the bills so what choice does she have?
