Gender Locks Have Revealed the Worst in Players.

...why do people keep necro-ing threads and focusing on the (yes, very vocal and misguided, even other mViera supporters think so) person who hasn't posted in months? It's getting kind of stalkerish.

To be fair, I'm pretty sure if Male Viera's would of been added we would of seen a "post your MALE Viera" thread just to rub it in the other side's face. This is how things go in 2019.

Eh, I thought the small amount of 'logic' that could be applied to the regressive/homophobia issue was this;
Rabbits are seen as feminine in most cultures. A man who wears bunny ears in the game is usually lumped into this whole 'they erp or are gay' category - because yet again, the ears are seen as feminine and is ingrained to be seen as something that is 'weak', 'cute', and/or submissive. This is tied into the whole discussion regarding the bunny outfit in the first place where males had to wait for it to be added in because people in development felt uncomfortable making the outfit fit onto a male body. This was tied into Yoshida at one point calling male Viera - weird. Yet we have no idea what he thought was weird. I don't claim to know, I honestly don't care.

Now we delve deeper into the matter of niches. Hrothgar added a beastly race that was strong and physically imposing, but male only - females got Viera which doesn't look physically imposing but looks like eye candy. Now I don't know data but I know how most folks in these games tend to work in the majority. Men like to play as female characters, we know why - not all of them - but a good amount like to have female toons. They got their eye candy in regards to Viera - again this is not everyone and nor am I saying that this is fact as I do not have the numbers, but I can make an educated bet. Anyway, females like to play as attractive cute characters, as well as beautiful - they got what they wanted as well in regards to Viera, in regards to the whole basic beautify and want not. So, square made a good choice on this one because that's where the money is.

Hrothgar again is the beast race that sports physical strength and prowess due to their build. They are masculine in every sense. Even the cute looking Hrothgar that are going for the -I fit I sit- look like manly beasts. Hrothgar doesn't have a lick of 'femininity' to them - and thus they are what attracts the bara community, as well as the fur community and finally, just the ordinary folk that like such things. They're cool looking, who can blame them?

Their counterparts, the elegant male Viera and the strong and fierce female Hrothgar are what people in that whole gender politics are all about today. Yes, people are tired of it, but you can't just shrug it off and ignore the fact that yes, we got two new races that don't stray one lick away from the everyday stereotypical MMO race we're used to.

The other half of these races was what made them slightly more interesting to me. They were the other sides of the coin. An elegant and beautiful male (that didn't have a stupid neck) and a fierce beastly female.

Blah blah blah, I don't fault Square for what they did. In a business sense, this is where the money is. I don't think they're homophobic or bigotted for it. I would still like to see them, however, and play as my wanted race on the gender I am more comfortable playing on.

Let's face it, plenty of folks here got what they desired in fViera and mHrothgar - you settled for an alternative race until this one came along. I don't see why folks find enjoyment in then going to the previous people who are now in their now vacant boats, and then crapping on them. Unless the person you're crapping on is being a child at this given moment that is, then I get it.

So, let me just preface this by saying I have nothing against lgbtq+ people, at all. I have some great friends that are gay and trans, but to address this directly I've already seen about a dozen people in game trying to make and RP a male viera with a female model. You know what's in their search info? Gay or the male/male symbol. ERP. Crossdresser. These examples are why this is considered a fetish. Because people are literally making it into one. I don't recall when this started happening but the gay community is being turned into a fetish. It's not cool. Most of these offenders are women trying to live out some yaoi fantasy in game and it's a little messed up, in my opinion.

I wouldn't say it's the bunny ears, but the outfit itself is basically cross dressing. If it had cat ears or no ears at all, they would still have had the same reaction and felt uncomfortable making it.

When they first announced the Viera race, the way I imagined the males was just like SE's artwork. Doesn't look feminine at all. They wouldn't have drawn it if they were uncomfortable by them, which as you said we don't know what Yoshi P meant when he said "weird" (he very well could have meant lorewise).

As for the ERP part, I really can't blame people for thinking that after seeing some of the arts that were shared and what some do already with male miqo'tes. Add to that the requests for young/small cute males (and in some cases children). There's no smoke without fire lol.

I don't disagree with ya, don't worry. That's just what I think they're grasping at. These folks tend to have some sort of agenda going on. Plenty of us in the mViera group just want them to look like men - the artwork that Matsuno has retweeted as well as the concept art was perfect for me. But eh, times we live in.

Ugh, I'm a gay man and don't get me started on this,I have plenty of Words to say about those gross people.

Is this really something worth getting all bent out of shape over? It’s a video game. The developers did what they would appeal to the widest audience. Would it have been cool to have more options in character creation? Absolutely. Is it worth starting a damn crusade over and boycotting something you otherwise enjoyed? In my opinion, not really.
