Forgive me if this has already been addressed, I had trouble finding information among the pages of codes. Do I need to purchase a copy of the game before being able to use someone's code, or can I use a recruitment code while on the 14 day trial? I don't seem to have a code button on my mog station. Thank you!

That page doesn't address any of my questions. It simply says "When your friend receives your message with the enclosed recruitment code, have them create a Square Enix account if they have yet to do so, then register the recruitment code via the Mog Station."
I've created the account and there was nowhere to use the recruit code on my mog station so I downloaded the trial. Under the 'your account' tab on the mog station it shows my trial account, but where it says "the following options are available for this account" the only button is "transfer to regular service" which takes me to purchase the game. My question is if this is an error, has anyone out there used a recruit code while on a trail, or do I need to actually purchase the game before I can use the code?
