Push it so hard, the butt slider requests will seem tame lmao

I am holding up my expectation until the last fanfest but I fully agree with you. The only aspect that captured my interest was the island sancutary and we barely even got any information on this. I hope that it will be great, I still fear that it will end up being another disappointment.
Other than that what was truly new at the event? Nothing much. New zones, new story..all of that is the basics of the expansion and while its nice to look at or to play through its mostly something for the first run through. I want more information on lasting content...
So to not be completely off topic: I am also a bit sad that the latest question about Viera is another non commitment...another look forward to fanfest thing....awesome. v_v
While I get that Yoshi's job is partly to build hype, I really don't see why he even bothered to say the "high expectations" thing. It just didn't pan out. Again, barring the PS5 element... to me it's a run of the mill expansion to conclude the story. If you really like the story, maybe the aspects of it they're touching on is what he's getting at... but really it's one of those vague terms you can read anything into, so it hasn't served them too well.
He's essentially said they are considering an engine replacement but that it's a big project and will take time, so a 7.0+ timeframe would be implied in that, if they proceed. I'm somewhat convinced that they will, because they have high ambitions for the game's duration, and even their own team members have been griping about the restrictions the current engine faces. Such an engine replacement could in turn make the addition of the missing genders easier.
I am keeping an open eye on other MMOs, in all honesty. There's no single thing in this one that particularly grips me, so it's just a case of "it's worth a bit more than the sub price to me for the time being, but only barely." The lack of competitors which interest me is really the main issue. If they do take a bolder course, and actually replace the engine, that of course could change my assessment.
I understand your point but the awnser was literally 'wait until May FanFest to see'. So many ppl seem to have dismissed the possibility entirely and he was talking about adding new races (likely regarding the 'new things' in the question) while he didnt give a response to the question of the missing genders. All I'm asking for is to get a 'yes, you will get them on 6.0' or 'No, you will not be getting them 6.0, we dont know in the future' instead of 'I dont know' or 'I cant say' or 'We are working hard' or 'Wait to see' or 'It would be hard', like if the response is a 'No', ok, Ill deal with it and put this issue to rest, its just really tiring to have not yet gotten a 'true' tresponse eve nafter 2 years, at which point it is almost sure they do know for sure wether we are getting them or not
Exactly. I remember he mentioning somewhere that we should get hyped for something big... Which to me means either something that the players have high expectation with (Viera males is one example), OR a big system overhaul (like massive spaghetti code improvements, which would affect the game positively in almost every sense).
I don't think in ShB, Viera or Hroth got revealed with the expansion reveal, right? So, to that, I still hold some hope for Fanfest. Maybe the extended trailer will reveal something, because truly, at this point, the only highly anticipated thing that is guaranteed to appear is the second job, and I don't really count it as the "BIG thing" because it's like you said, something kind of "default" to every expansion.
I have lost any actual hopes I had, but I think its just as unlikely female viera or male hrotgar will see any sort of substantial improvement, likely because 'It would take up so much dev time, please understand' which as much as is a valid excuse, its getting quite tiring to hear it every single time the community asks for something cool.
My bets are placed that sadly there wont be introducing the missing genders or any sort of updates towards female viera or hrotgar for 2-3 more years, at all, and it will be egi-glamour 2.0. Remember when we got promised throught 5.x we would see more egi glamours? Or how housing wasnt gonna have a timer that would force you to keep subscription or lose your house? Well, I think female viera and male hrotgar will go together down that list as well, and perhaps in 6 years they may add a few hats to them. Also, Imnot expecting the missing genders for 6.0 so Imma try to keep them on the back of my mind for 2 more long years, yet I do sadly think they will join the current genders in the 'We would love to, but dev time is a struggle' list.
imo there really wasnt a 'high expectations fullfieled' announcement. I higly doubt many players were incredibly excited for PS5 which was already a given. 6.0 looks ok, but the trailer honestly didnt blow me away like the first Shadowbringers one did. Sage was cool, but idk, it was just 'cool', it wasnt breathtaking or spectacular in any way. Island feature we know close to nothing about and we only got a picture from, which was imo rather dissapointing. No belts which I dont think anyone cried of happines for. New story as always (Seems Zenos is the villan :) ) And a few more minor announcements that I cant even recall. The new zones look cool, but thats it. If that are 'high expectations' I really am confused as to what 'reasonable' expectations are, I would say it was a way weaker announcement than I expected (I expected there to at least be 1 element to blow me away) but well, I guess the next expansion will be fun. I am personally looking into blue protocol for late this year or the next which by the sound of it reminds me of a full anime ffxiv without pvp and action combat, so its got me quite excited tbh. Admittedly more than Endwalker
It didn't seem that way.
It's more like he's begging players to understand what they're asking for (wrt male Viera/female Hrothgar) is a monstrous undertaking, and while he seems on board they still don't have the resources to do it.
The "as for the remaining elements look forward to May fanfest" seems to be a response to the rest of the question, being anything new for the new races and gender/race locked gear.
But I agree that he should just speak plainly at this point. Not like it matters anyway, they don't always do what they say they will anyway lol
Those thinking female Viera and male Hrothgar will get hats; let me say this to you. There's absolutely nothing you can do with these heads

At best female Viera and male hrothgar should expect 2-5 new hairstyles.
Those of you excusing the refusal to add the missing genders because female Viera and male hrothgar are going to be worked on heavily for Endwalker; you better tamper down expectations by a lot. Thanks YoshiP, we needed a lion race with extreme limitations, while at the same time crippling female Viera; one of the most popular races in the game.
Thats what I find most irritating, how you and I can see the statement entirely differently while neither of us has a guarantee it actually means what we think. What I mean by this is that just how hard is it to say 'yes' or 'no' once and for all, I think its likely to upset more players if they keep quiet than if they simply adress the sitation adn they cant (or if theyve been ale to add them which would be absolutely amazing, but I have incredibly lowh opes on the team to add them at this point tbh.)
Well, at this point they would know if they're coming or not in 6.0. They've detailed their development cycle during Live Letters so they've already likely set up the basics for the 6.1 and 6.2 content patches as well, at this point. Not that I think we'd get the missing genders in a patch, but still. They'd save themselves a lot of disappointment and backlash if they simply announced outright if they're not coming in the expansion. Yes, some people would be annoyed if the answer was a 'no' but they'd have a definitive answer and it doesn't mean they won't be coming later on.
They say the lack the time and money, and I dont really know wether or not they have the incentive, but given their silence I wouldn't bet on it. I would say it is likely to set yourself up to dissapointment if u expect either of the existing genders to get massive updates that fix their every issue, at most we are likely to get a few hairstyles for female viera and idk, a few more face for male hrots I guess, maybe som AF gear hats Id hope at least, but I dont really expect much.
They can easily make hats and headgear for Viera and Hrothgar.
The real issue here is, they would need to redesign alot of old gear to fit a the beast-like face and alot of future gear would have to be designed 2 or 3 times to factor the beast face, and to have earholes for the Viera.
The modding community says Hi.

That's why I'm saying he won't. Again, I don't like the non-commital answers either, but right now he's stuck. I truly do believe he's willing to release them, but he can't confirm or deny at this point becaause either would be a PR disaster.
If he says yes, they're coming, but can't deliver (see: Viera hairstyles, also Housing availability for all without demolition timers), that's a PR disaster; if he says no, EVEN IF he clarifies he only means "not in 6.0", that's another PR disaster (can you imagine the number of people who'd come in here just to taunt "HE SAID NO SO SHUT UP!"? Even if he leaves the door open for later?).
MAYBE the May FanFest will surprise us, maybe it won't, but again, even if I don't like it, I know why he has to asnwer the way he does. And again, the fact that he's still answering that question, especially the way he just did "it's very hard to answer yes", sounds like an "I WANT to say yes, but I can't yet."
Hope is fine as long as it doesn't become delusion.
Keep pushing towards page 1,500...
I'm just putting a post on here to show my support for male vieras! Also hats for vieras and Hrothgar. Even though it might be unrealistic to get both.
I think I have read somewhere that there is also a mod now that enables all hats for Viera too? Would be great if people were allowed to use such mods without the fear of bans.
I really don't understand why they don't just allow some gear to clip through. If I want to wear my hard-earned Eurekan Elementa +1 helmet and my ears are sticking through, just let them!
Pretend I cut a hole through the gear. It's not fair to just ignore it completely.
From a client side application it is a relatively simple task sure will take time but nothing too crazy in the grand scheme. Things probably get murky when you add the server side storage and communication. Which makes me think if there is any chance for them to be added it will be when or if they do a engine swap.
Would be easier to just do it all from that point instead of trying to work within the amount of technical debt they have to currently deal with.
New interview with Yoshi-P
Note: The question wasn't even about the missing genders, but Yoshi-P once again mentioned the difficulty in adding further playable races while not closing the door on it (bolded part). He could have even dodged that point or omitted it entirely.Quote:
Q: The Final Fantasy series has been known to have many races/cultures with new ones being introduced with each title. What process does the team go through when creating new races and introducing ones from previous games into Final Fantasy XIV?
Naoki Yoshida: [...] As a result, when considering the addition of new playable races, we have to factor in the how the workload will multiply. As such, this only happens on an extremely limited basis and the deliberations about implementing or not would start only after I place a request and the costs are calculated. We’re already approaching the limits in terms of maintaining a healthy balance between the operational costs and quality of the gameplay experience and so it could be said that adding any more playable races would be quite a challenge. (Of course, I do understand the benefits of expanding the options available to players and their scope for roleplay…)
On the other hand, the addition of NPC races is, compared to playable races, a somewhat enjoyable process for the development team. This is thanks to factors such as the characters’ gear being fixed and the developers benefitting from a degree of control over the emotes. (But again, it’s only enjoyable in comparison) Typically we’ll brainstorm for ideas alongside our efforts in formulating the story when working on a new expansion, by considering questions such as “which regions will we focus on?” and “what unknown cultures await therein?” Since I also participate, the scenario team and I will consolidate the basic ideas and consult the graphics team after that.
As for the final steps such as the design and emote motions etc., in the case of races that have appeared in the FF series before, we’ll thoroughly do our research before deciding on the race’s physique and preparing several samples of their movement, all the while considering their standing in the lore. From there on, we enter the stage of incorporating all the fine details. As one example, when we were implementing the Viera from FFXII we checked their prerequisites in advance and also had their creator Mr. Yasumi Matsuno kindly provide his support in this regard. After deciding on the physique and lifestyle of this race we then determined their movements. Simply put, the process started from formulating the basic identity of the Viera as an athletic race of hunters.
I'm not tin-foil-hatting and saying that they're absolutely coming. Just commenting that it's nice Yoshi-P is still acknowledging the requests somewhat positively.
Thank you for that new interview; you see it as glass half-full, I personally have to see it as glass half-empty. This sounds very similar to the "I am a contrarian" when asked about adding male Viera during the february 2018 fanfest. The "we're already approaching the limits" line is a big negative, it matches what he said about male Viera in the past. This new interviews put that 1% chance of them being added to 0.5% now in my book. They're skipping the hell out of male Viera, the tone says it all. Before adding female Viera he would always say something like "the marketing team would kill me if I commented on Viera, please wait for more information," or "I can't comment on that now." His replies were never presented with excuses as to why adding female Viera is a challenge.
You just have to read the tone behind his replies and it's easy to analyze what will happen. Reminds me of the "male rabbits are weird" opinion that he had in 2015.
I don't feel like it's outside the realm of possibilities at this point, if Yoshi P and his team are as committed to this game for years to come as he said in the Live Keynote, then the possibility is always there.
They're opinions of how they see the game and what does/doesn't belong or have a place in the world can change with age, as well as technologies making things easier.
Just stay optimistic.
Sounds to me they‘ll probably add them along with a reworked engine. if we are VERY optimistic, i‘d say 7.0 - but as yoshida said before, they don‘t have a strict time schedule for engine updates and do work on them when they have the time to do so. so with my guessing probably around 8.0 the earliest. id love to be surprised, but at this point better keep expectations below zero :D
While the interview does say they are reaching the limit of what they can do in regards to new races it didn’t fully cement the door shut. At least from the phrasing he used. So I don’t expect a brand new playable race ever again, but I do think that maybe we’ll get the genders down the line to complete them, hopefully. If we don’t I’ll deal, but at least his word choices are sort of keeping my hope alive.
I wouldn't say it's impossible, but filling in the two missiong options would equal the work of one full new race. (Two new player models they have to fit gear onto going forward.)
So I'm really not expecting it to happen. Even though I'd like it to and wish they'd picked viera OR hrothgar instead of giving us one gender of each.
