Official concept art also portrays them as absolute units. Doesn't mean an in-game version would look like that, but the ones saying they should look like children probably aren't allowed near schools and parks and should be silenced.

I think the male Viera can be feminine and youthful without being childlike, a lot like how the fem Miqo'te and fem Viera are. I still stand by the idea of the Raza being more in line with eh concept are, muscled, lean and taller while the Venna could be more soft, feminine and shorter. It would be a lot like the divide between Highlander and Midlander women, the same genera model with slight texture and scale differences.
In literally any mammalian species males are generally larger than females. Given how all the playable races in-game also have mammalian specifically human characteristics, it shouldn't be a shock that applies in-game as well.
Biggest complaint that should be leveled about the portrayal of female Au Ra is how even among the Mol who are the only non-militaristic tribe shown, the female members aren't shown to be nearly as waifish as a players female Au Ra.
Also someone looking young isn't the same as looking like a literal child which is what they're speaking against.

Why not?
Lore? But Male Viera exist according to lore.
Gender lock is so... out of date.

Male Viera is a must! Don't get me wrong I love that Viera is added, Fran is one of my favorite characters in the series next to Freya - but I would rather play a bunny boi. Preferably one with a long flowing Ramuh-styled beard.
Again showing my need for male vierra
We want male viera!
Also, I wish a little more slim Ronso xD
I was really hoping to play male Viera. I really loved the (adult) body type from the concept artwork that was shown a few years ago.
It was devastating to see that both new races are genderlocked... :/

We don’t really need any more cute or sweet looking characters because we have so many as it is.
If they absolutely must add them, make them look feral.
I'll repost what I said somewhere else here
"in my opinion, we already have bulky male body types: highlander, au ra, roegadyn, and now hrothgar
we already have tall male body types: highlander, au ra, roegadyn, hrothgar, elezen
we already have broad/fit male body types: midlander/highlander, miqo'te, au ra, roegadyn, hrothgar
and we have one really short male body type: lalafell
what we're missing is a short, but not lalafell short, male, who is also slim
I think male viera would fit very well into this. when I think of male viera, I think of a smaller build, slim, and agile. something that can stay hidden easily"
I am for male Viera (-:
Stopping by to check in on things.. that's a lot of pages! It's nice to see so many folks popping in to talk about it. And look at all thosechickenslikes!
I vote for male viera and female hrothgar too. I know about the viera's lore and I don't mind if male buns will be added later. Just let it be happen, pls. Thank you!
Add another vote for female hrothgar and male viera! This genderlocking thing has always rubbed me the wrong way, and admittedly I'm annoyed at the dishonesty they showed before the hrothgar reveal. People outright asked if there would be male viera and instead of straight up telling them that there wouldn't be, they played coy, building false hope, when all they had to tell us from the start is that "there are no male viera, but we have something planned for male characters! look forward to finding out what at Tokyo Fest!" or something. Then there's all the build up viera were given in the first place, making the hrothgar feel like an after thought and a bone tossed our way whether they were or not. It was just bad form all around.
I rarely go to the forum, but this time I have to.
I support Male Viera and Female Hrothgart. Genderlocking is so last decade.
Support diversity in Viera!
I liked the OP and will post a comment. While I don't personally have an interest in male viera as I always just wanted female viera I can understand why others are disappointed. So I support the inclusion of male viera and SE is smart enough to come up with a lore reason why it works. Sometimes a people has to change their ways when the fate of the world is at stake.
There should be bunny boys.
"Male Vierra don't show themselves to outsiders" is a dumb lore concept anyway. In the fight against the Ascians for the fate of the world, everyone is needed and good enough reason to break such a rule.
Gender locking is pathetic in my honest opinion. Both of the new races should be both male and female. I would love to play a male viera or female hrothgar. Hopefully they add these options. Otherwise they are just repeating the mistake they already fixed. Lets not forget that female roes and male cat boys did not exist at first and are both popular character choices.
The lore with the male Viera was always silly: I said it earlier and I stand by it. The 'lore' was never anything but a shallow attempt to preserve a straight male power fantasy derived from gazing as scantily clad Viera women, because gaps why should they have to look at booties too?
It isnt about lore or 'not wanting to put it in the game'. Yoshida did mentioned in a recent interview why they had to make a choice.
That being said, I do support the addition of male viera (and female hrothgar) as I do understand that others might want them and more options are always a nice addition :)
Your thesis falls flat when the existence of a male viera wouldn't detract from one's ability to look at a female viera. I choose to believe Yoshi P when he says that this was because they wanted to add both a bestial race people were asking for and the viera they were asking for; they are open to the possibility, also, of later adding the unreleased sexes, but for now this was their choice.
This is actually rather true i think, they needed to talk about this far sooner. Maybe even go about there concerns with Viera before they had even decided on it. Finding out what people would have been interested in.
Since they could have taken them a bit more beastly if they had wanted, slight rabbet like features. The longer claws, and if they did not want to do less human feet. that would have been ok.
Have them move with a more savage maner, and have animations that show they are not just humans but have personality that is far less civilized in background. Like how some of the Male miqote emotes are, but turned up far further.
It could have been awesome to have animations where sometimes, rather than swing a weapon they reach out and claw. Or lift and leg ready to scratch, So much can be done with a beastly tone that i feel they may have overlooked trying to stay too faithful without looking at whats unique to this game and the community and its desires.
Adding my support for male Vierra. Gender-locked races should stay a thing of the past.
It seems it's within the realm of possibility that we will be getting an official statement from them soon!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZGezcBuu-mc More in-depth answers; they're currently looking over feedback.
I would love to be able to experience Shadowbringers as a female Hrothgar or male Viera character. I understand the cost and the time involved in making this a possibility (the dev team looked very exhausted at Fan Fast the other day), but I think it would be a real cherry on top of what looks to be an amazing expansion. Just as creating female Roegadyn and male Miqo'te was worth it, I think this effort will be worth the time and money as well.
They better do. 1300 likes over 3 days in such a short time on the official forums is definetly amazing and I do hope that will be accounted as feedback.
Usually you wouldnt see more than 300 likes on a post but passing 1000 now and we are currently at 1300+ is great.
People talking about homophobia reminds me of the fools in Granblue Fantasy who always cry when two characters are not LGBT to the point that they end up inventing stupid things to validate their views lol
After reading Mr Happy's interview, it seems that they are unsure about how they want male viera to look like as they have nothing to use as a reference. I would suggest, if they decide to add a male version, that they hold a design competition for male viera and have the community decide on the finalists. They can then take their pick from those finalists. That way they can add male viera that the community would be happy with.
My favorite part is that by confirming again that they did consider male Viera for HW, he once again proved, on his own, how irrelevant, weak and false the lore justification was.
That would never happen by virtue of human nature. Also with how many people want Feol, and they'll likely go with full Viera.
Personally I think they should just go with the design concept they showed way back when. For no other reason than that's what's been circulating in the public conscience and is what people came to expect, even subconsciously. There are things they can consider, like the height comparison to the females (I wouldn't mind if they were shorter, with the females already being taller than female Elezen, they can make the males shorter and still be tol), but I think going with that design would be, if nothing else, the safest option for them.
They also can stick with "adult" type concepts which they shown in 2015 before HW, because it seems that mostly (not all, ofc) people were very excited about them. Or, instead of contest, make few concept arts and then do a poll where people will pick those which they like the most. (I personally would prefer the one from 2015 but technically will be okay with anything what they will chose because people have more or less similar imagination about how they could look).
I will keep it short but to use the lore excuse of not making the male viera is very poor, when you go back on the lore of male miqo'te and female roegadyn. Please do not take this step backwards Square! So many people looked forward to male Viera including myself. So please consider to make them for the next expansion!
I feel like taking your time making better content than rushing to finish it is better in the long run!
But did he - Yoshida - said it was about the lore ? I did not see that anywhere. I believe people defending the absence of male vieras were using the lore as justification, not Yoshida.
Plus, it as been explained in his interview with Mr. Happy recently why they did not implement male viera and female hrothgar - perhaps, 'yet'.
Let's just wait for an official statement, as I believe they will write one on the forums when they will be up to date with the feedback :)
