I don’t see why it can’t be both... missing genders and enhanced customization for existing races.
You are correct, male viera exist and in other games, they haven’t been encountered. But this isn’t those games ;) The people who want male viera are no more “whiners” than those that pushed for initial viera inclusion. Let’s be civil and objective, and let’s just hope that implementation of missing genders and enhanced customization for existing races surfaces in the coming months. :)
So Moonkeeper and male miqo'te, and duskwright elezen should be removed from being playable then by this logic.
There's also the fact that in the transition from 1.0 to 2.0 they said they wouldn't do gender locked races yet here we are!
So while new races would be exciting, I'd rather they finish the unfinished races and give some love to the already existing ones first.
They included a fantasia with the Heavensward Collector's Edition. Maybe they could throw another one in with 6.0
Tbh seeing how Shadowlands is apparently doing really well and I can say from expirience it's a really well done expansion with a lot of potential, SE probs wants to lock on those preorders for their next expansion and what better way to do it that male viera and female hrotgar, its just a no brainer from a bussines standpoint. Also I really thik they should finish adding the helmets and some hairstyles to the current genders but lets be honest, it dosent sound nearly as 'exciting' to sell an expansion as them removing genderlock which would get them a ton of good press so I'm willing to bet they have probably done both. Also, we are meant to recieve information on 6.0 in February right?
To be fair, while you obviously have a point there really is very few things that sell preorders as much as 'Look guys, we are adding the missing genders to this races by popular demand and finished our previous genders for the new races added with Shadowbringers, and not only that, but preorder the game now and you can change into them for free!' which would likely mean many ppl would preorder and a good amount of ppl would also likely change back after a while, but it is really unlikely they'd miss out on all that good fantasia money yeah
I understand that you're excited about male Viera and I don't begrudge you that at all, but after how they launched the races in Shadowbringers (and how they still are) and explained why they made those decisions I'm not sure where you think they found the resources to fix the headgear situation, add the promised new faces, manes, and hairstyles, and add the other genders also in perfect working condition with all their own unique customization? And that's on top of whatever else they're doing in the expansion.
If they had those kinds of resources available we wouldn't be in this situation in the first place.
I imagine they will get a ton of pre-orders even if they don't add the 'missing' genders and didn't even touch Viera and Hrothgar though, most people are perfectly happy with what they have and are not all that invested in these races.
But yes we should hear the first news in February so, fingers crossed?
Yeah you obviously have a point and we have to wait until we hear more news since nothing is confirmed as of yet, and ofc I am not working on SE nor is anyone here (except the moderators I guess) so there really isn't a way for us to know what the resources, budget distribution employees etc etc are, but as much as the game wont die because of the missing genders, nor will it underperform at all, it is really likely that with the addition of those player models, not only would SE get a probably massive amount of good press (which is ofc very important when announcing a new expansion) but also lock in a good amount of both pre orders and fantasia sales, considering ti would be a great 'feature' to advertise the expansion with. The only expansion to lack a cool 'thing' to go with it so far is stormblood, since ARR was basically a new game Heavensward gave us Au Ra and Shadowbringers gave us 2 (severly limited) player models in the form of female viera and male hrothgar, so I would think/hope that for 6.0 they could use this as a way to advertise and promote the game. That being said, guess we will find out soon enough and fingers crossed
I do wonder what their plan is. It's safe to say that they treated the Hrothgar queen dirty.. Why design a storyline around them if they have no intent whatsoever to include the additions of female Hrothgar, or male Viera.
Does this mean we can expect the male Viera to be an Elezen with the Gold Saucer bunny ears attached?
I doubt it considering he said this:
They exist, but we probably won't meet any this expac.Quote:
As you play through Shadowbringers, you’ll learn that both male Viera and female Hrothgar exist. While you won’t meet any in person, if we developers can find a way to address the various problems which are preventing us from implementing them, then perhaps someday you’ll be able to see them for yourself.
Oh I didnt remember that. I really hope that they are added in 6.0 but I guess we will see. Imagine if the trailer shwos a male viera, I would die of hype lol. In all seriousness tho, I cant wait for February to come so we know if we will have them this expac or if its gonna be a super long time till they get added
P.D:
In this tweet they said: We've got something else in store ... We'll be announcing cool things.' So that gives me some hope I guess? Gonna keep my expectations grounded tho

We really have no idea of what 6.0 will bring, not what they mean with this but as much as it may just be a fancy way to put 'we are only gonna add new quests and moreo f the same have funz lol' there is a chance they would actually announce cool unexpected things (like genderlock removals new cc updates healer reworks new class etc
I’m fairly confident we will see them soon. With the storyline focused around them in Bozja and Fran being reintroduced to the lore with updates in the Damascan front (in which she’s hopefully rounded up some male viera to help), I’m hoping to see them in the coming expansion.
I do agree it seems rather likely, and many people on the community are wishing and/or expecting to have them added in 6.0 (like ZeplaHQ commented on a video she made about 6.0 and her wishes for the expac) so while Im fairly optimistic I also was when we had female viera announced and we all remember how that went, so Im gonna keep my expectations low and my hopes high
Wait, did I miss something? Fran has been reintroduced? The last time I saw her was in the Orbonne Monastery storyline.
anyway with essentially online fan fest a little over two weeks away I hope people don't expect a reveal for M viera and or F hroth
i want them both just as much as anyone else in both threads but also not getting my hopes up ,also be nice if they are not revealed or mentioned not to freak out, complain or insult developers that there is no word on them.
Yes, and yes, annoyingly.
Thats pretty dissapointing tbh, It makes me be quite a bit less hopefull. Tbh I'mma just expect them not to add anything but I really hope they will. If they dont, I hope they will give us at least a heads up theyre not coming for the expansion before the reveal or smth, but its barely plausible theyd do it
Personally? I'll be fearing for the future of the game if we don't see the missing genders and/or upgraded character customisation added to the game as of 6.0.
The development team and investors must be aware by this point that both elements are in fairly high demand. In the case of the latter, people have been asking for it since the days of ARR. Furthermore, rival MMO's have been future proofing their own game by expanding character customisation, adding new playable races and upgrading the graphics/textures significantly.
If we don't get either feature as of 6.0, then that would mean waiting until 7.0 at the earliest...which in turn is a good 2-3 years away.
My main hope is that the reason 5.0 is light on content is due to major features being worked on in the background. I guess we'll see if that's the case or not if the announcement showcase in February reveals as much.
perhaps in the light of the pandemic still being a thing in a couple months, they can reallocate the marketing funds that would be used on busses and billboards to expanding the team dealing with character customisation. need to drill holes in all the hairstyles for them rabbit ears.
I really think that if they dont add the missing genders it is most certainly a rather bad sign for the future, considering that theyre the most requested feature in the game (ever I think?) and it would really show theyre committed to keeping the playerbase happy
More options, why not ? But i already see it : male viera with 6 haircuts and female rothgar with 2x more but you can't change.
And i'm more concerned about job design, dungeons, raids and many other things. No point in adding new races if everything else isn't great. Except quick money for SE.
I think it can be both, actually. WoW got a lot of positive feedback both times they enhanced their CC, many people even went back to the game mostly because of it and the restriction lift from the allied races, rather than the game itself. It's true new races and overall customizations are just aesthetics, as opposed to stuff that affect gameplay/content, but it'd be a lie to say they don't leave a lasting impact on the audience's perception of the game too - Female Au Ra is the second most popular option even today, and even Hrothgars, despite having a smaller fanbase, all but made Roes go extinct.
I think its rather that you dont actually care for them so you see them as a novelty than that they arent as important, its almost obvious that male viera and female hrotgar would be a lot more profitable than more customization (which would likely be harder to implement considering that as far as Im aware they'd have to change a ton of things in the code etc) also job design is pretty good as it is and the next expac will hopefully fix healers and new content and features is the base of anything they release, considering everything is 'content and features' and male viera and female hrotgar may be the sinlge most requested piece of content in the game ever, as such, their implementation would likely show the devs are willing to go above and beyond to appease to theri playerbase and that with such an investment they're truly commited to supporting this game 500% like they've been doing till now (it isn't like if they werent added because of resources or something along those lines they arent commited, its just that their implementation would show it very clearly)
I'm actually pretty much inclined to believe that at this point they'll release incredibly limited male viera and female hrotgar, maybe add the job hats so people have something for both genders of both races and call it a day. It's clear that to this point they havent really put any effort into fixing or updating either of the current models, this might be because they dont have time or resources, because they simply dont want or if were more optimistic because theyre planning big updates for them in 6.0 but I do believe that if we get the missing genders (which I hope is 6.0 )they'll likely be quite limited, if maybe a bit less so than the current ones
They added female viera/male hrothgar in ShB, and how did that relate to the future of the game? Even before the virus ShB wasn't looking up, I remember the conversations that were had here about the "future of the game" at the time. Yes, the virus exacerbated these issues, I am not arguing that. Frankly, them adding female viera/male hrothgar probably is part of the problem. SE saw their addition as worth it, and yeah, it probably was. Viera/hrothgar currently are fairly popular despite their limitations. However, adding new races is not a small endeavor, and actually may have a negative impact on other game content - stuff that isn't superficial.
Where are you getting your information? How do you know if male viera/female hrothgar would be more profitable than further customization? Do you realize how expensive it is to make new races, maintain them, and what effect they have on the future of the game? Further customization would likely be easier to implement than the missing genders - which are the equivalent to a new race. Besides, if they were going to release the new races just as limited, I don't think they should be added.
They shouldn't try to go above and beyond to "appease their playerbase" if they aren't ready to do so. It's extremely shortsighted, and can have a lasting impact on the rest of the game, in my opinion.
I know that theres various players who begum playing for male hrotgar, but a ton of ppl came into the game simply because of female vieras (even if they didnt stick with them), it's pretty likely the missing genders will help add new players, which considering how WoW is having a pretty succesfull expansion and looks to be on the right track is quite beneficial to ensure the stability of the game in the future
