lol, I almost stopped reading when they said two regens better than one. The Seph Ex fight is so good with SCH or Noct AST because shields = more effective HP but then again you have dumb healers that think it's better to heal more HP than to be able to heal less of it *facepalm*

Halatali, normal mode.

The first 3 mobs, the tanks HP drops to half in a second. Struggled very hard to keep him alive with Cure.

This continues with several near brushes with death. (I wanted to sleep some mobs, but WHM can't use sleep at that level yet. Thankfully we had a BLM who I asked to do this.)

I checked the gear of the tank. Nothing above level 18. 3 accessory slots were empty. One of the ring slots was the Aetherial Ring for increased spiritbond gain.
Asked the tank if they had anything at all to equip, just for the defense.

The tank said that his gear wasn't the problem. He said that at such a low level tanks are useless and have no good skills. He claimed there was nothing he could do about it and I'd have to just keep him alive.

Of course, he died a few times when he tried pulling 6 mobs at once.

And, although the PT information said he spoke Japanese, when a Japanese member said afk （りせき）he didn't understand and continued pulling mobs.

If the Tank is dying fast in Halitali it's usually because the group is attacking the wrong targets first.

A lot of tanks like to charge at the big giant thing, but those stupid little praying mantises also hit like a truck but only have like 5 HP.

Honestly, sleeping and cure bombing the tank may have made it harder than it should have been. If the time was instead spent working on obliterating the first add it probably would have been more manageable.

Of course I don't know the exact situation. Like missing the accessories probably wasn't as much of a big deal as what armor was he wearing. Next time don't just check the level of his armor, but also check if he's actually wearing tank armor or a DD set.

You have to realize, White Mage imo is flat out the strongest DD in Halitali. Clerics stance and Stone II just obliterates monsters. Yeah, things in Halitali hit like a truck, but as soon as the first monster dies the tank takes quite a bit less damage. Don't be too scared to try and race a monster's HP down before healing the tank. I mean it's not like there's tank busters or anything, you should be able to estimate whether the monster will die before the tank will or not.

That being said. If your tank was big pulling in Halitali...

We only started sleeping things after Firemane, up until that point every fight was very very tough to keep the tank alive through. The tank was going down to half health from after almost every hit or two. There would have not been enough time to switch out of Cleric stance and cast cure before he died. The first time I tried to do it, the tank had so little HP left that I thought he had died, but I managed to land a Cure just in time.

I've healed Halatali a lot and I've never seen anyone's HP go down that fast.

Hunting with my Sumn and 2 others healers first time they died cuz...i don't rly know. second try they'v been healing their chocobos whole time and letting my tank eggi dying again , i couldn't cast spells to kill the A rank, ended up spaming heals on Titan z.Z he died again and i'v been tanking the A rank with my sumn, had to run most of the time cuz they wasn't healing me much either ... + my eggi couldn't take it back :/

If the healer needs to cure bomb to keep the tank up, stopping healing to dps instead is going to kill the tank. Unless you meant that designating a dps tank or just healtanking is easier than trying to keep him alive.

I just left a dungeon group for the first time. It was Brayflox normal on my Astrologian.
Tank is a Dark Knight.

First pull, and the tank's HP goes down extremely fast and he's not keeping enmity so well. I'm able to get him up just in time, but it wasn't pretty. This happens every pull until the first boss, at which point I am pretty skeptical about this tank.

Tank picks up the boss but ignores all the adds. I try to hold off on healing him until he either picks up the adds or his health gets dangerously low. He never picks up the adds, so they all go after me, of course. DPS try to help me, but they end up getting enmity too. So, everyone is dying and meanwhile the tank is seemingly use NO cooldowns or Unleash, and I'm not even sure if he was using his combo. Tank's HP is going down extremely fast, so I'm trying to keep him up, plus me and the DPS who are dying because of the adds. My healing ultimately steals enmity from the boss, so I'm dying even more. One DPS dies and I get them back up. Soon after, the tank dies. I get him back up too. My MP is dangerously low because I've been having to spam heal plus revive two people. I die because everything is attacking me. We wipe. Boss was barely at half HP.

The tank now mentions that he's never tanked before. A DPS tries to explain how to tank, but he just runs ahead and attacks the boss again. I try to wait and see if he'll pick up the adds this time, and he doesn't. I also messed up and was too slow to heal him, so he went from a little over half health to zero health in a second. I get him up, but a DPS dies in the process and warps back to the beginning. So, we're down one DPS, and I'm tanking everything. The tank eventually gets enmity on the boss, but keeps ignoring the adds. Same things as the first attempt happened. I ended up dying because there were about three waves of adds attacking me, plus the tank was taking a ton of damage. We wipe again.

Other than this case, I'm always very patient with groups and willing to stick through it, but this one just didn't seem like it was going to get any better, and I felt like I was just about to be yelled at for messing up the second time even though it probably didn't make all that much difference to the outcome. The tank didn't use any cooldowns and never even once used Unleash, and he certainly didn't have Provoke. I don't think he even had Grit on. I didn't want to be in that situation anymore :(

new dark knight tanks are always a problem. What i think the main problem with them is, is they think 'oh cool, dark knight sounds Edgy and cool, i wanna be one of those' (usually, I've found a lot of ninjas do this lol) without bothering to get cross class abilities (I've seen 5 DRKs ranging from level 53-58 WITHOUT provoke, one of them telling me that he 'doesn't want to play paladin because it sucks and provoke is the same as unleashed so whats the point?'.....)or learning how tanking works.

Yep, a lot of dank knights that are first-time tanks that don't have a clue how to play the tank role at level 30+ from the get-go. So the struggle will begin at Haukke or Brayflox or wherever. Then you get the really bad ones that haven't leveled GLD to get Provoke or any MRD to get some easy cross-class cooldowns like Convo and Bloodbath.

So their job gear is usually junk, or under-geared, they have harder time holding hate, and giving a healer a hard time. Even hall of the novice will teach some basics of the role and gives free equipment, although it doesn't mention how Provoke works but it's getting irritating seeing a DRK without it and joining full-party raids that require a tank swap. I will explicitly mention they should stop queuing for this stuff without it.

On the flip side it can be the same with Astro too, a lot of first-time healers too then you hear they don't have Swiftcast by level 50. Protect they seem to get from CNJ since people tend to notice that quickly. While healing is easier to get into at that level, some people can't heal and handle draw at a fairly good rate like an experienced healer.
