Not really. They're just humans with a few cat-like features.

I just feel like it doesn't make sense that they have a similar figured models to the other races. If they really wanted to, they could have made them look way differently. All the beast tribes all look unique in their own way except the Lupin... But seeing how they are model just seems like it's suggesting it as a race...
So why not have the Lupin as a race?

Just posting as a joke, kinda lol
Honestly they seem the easiest to implement if they were/plan too simply because they are so close already. Unlike the Amal'ja, Sahagin and others that would include a massive amount of work to implement as playable, they are pretty much right there ready to go. I mean granted the only ones we see now are gray furred ones (unless I missed some?) so would probably need that option in customization and while the head would be a new problem (unless they want to extend the face gear to fit it) I could do without. Let us have our eye patch, hats, glasses but anything that would cover the face consider it invisible?
As for the whole furry thing, I think I would take that over those who keep trying to push the whole "lalafell are children" thing.
I agree with this assessment, I reckon the Kojin and Ananta will be regular beast tribes with the Namazu as the crafting beast tribe set.

The Lupin were pretty well integrated into Doman society, now that Doma is free I imagine they'll start slowly blending back in. Not much beast tribe potential IMHO.
Ronso is still my #1 pick for races I wish were implemented, but I'd take Lupin any day over something like Viera simply because they're visually infinitely more interesting. That said, my faith in SE has slowly been whittled down these past few years, soooo...I'm not exactly getting my hopes up for anything even remotely interesting. Given how much I've ranted about this on the forums, I realize I'm probably starting to sound like an insane conspiracy theorist, but SE clearly has a favorite type of character, especially when it comes to the women.
Moenbryda dies in the patch after she was introduced, but Y'shtola is still around after being sucked into the Lifestream and almost cut in half. But don't worry, SE won't leave you hanging during SB, M'naago and Yugiri are around plenty. Ysayale, who is arguably a main character at one point has some genuinely good character development and even becomes one of the good guys, but she doesn't even survive the initial HW story. Yotsuyu, who is a terrible one-note villain (sorry, "I had a shit life" doesn't magically excuse all the horrific things you've done) for the entirety of the story, should have died, but noooope, SE can't kill off their sadistic waifu because she's just so kawaii!
But I digress. I just don't trust SE to make characters, specifically women, playable or otherwise, that don't fit into a specific mold anymore. Granted, one could argue it's what the players want, but on the other hand, SE hasn't really given me a reason to think they're even trying in that specific department.
So, I guess what I'm ultimately getting at is: better get ready for Viera.
I like it. We've liberated Doma and the Lupin are pretty much on the same level culture-wise as all the other humanoid races, as is displayed by the fact that they live together in the Doman villages, even wearing the same clothes and performing the same tasks. Plus, they are the only known beastman race to date sensible and civilized enough to not summon a Primal despite the conditions in Doma. Heck, they're even more civilized than the Au Ra tribes in the Azim Steppes!
I support the Lupin as a playable race. Being able to play a beast-like race that's not just humans with different horns or ears feels like a breath of fresh air in FFXIV.
