this has been discussed many many times and i believe it is something almost every single player in the game can enjoy. the casuals get home from a hard day at work and say "i'll just go play in the casino or play cards with my friends the hardcores can say "while we're sitting at this camp let's play a few games of cards or we are bored with raptors let's go to the casino". these are nothing more than massive time sinks, but enjoyable ones and i know i would spend countless hours doing them.

Tournaments!
Official:
Official, city-state sanctioned tournaments occur every 8 (or 6) days — so every week it starts on a new day. The tournament also rotates between Gridania, Limsa and Ul'dah.
Each tournament has one main match and various smaller matches. The matches have different rules which could vary from your old favorites from TT or even something as simple as an Ul'dah tournament requiring each player to have a Thanalan Regional card in their playing deck. Matches would have preferred rank ranges: 1-10, 11-30, 31-50.
Entry requires a modest entrance fee — IOUs not excepted — and the prizes involve a piece of the pot, cards, items or tournament points.
Unofficial:
Unofficial tournaments don't occur as often (twice a month) and their location is subject to change. Varying from a back alley in one of the cities to some out of the way place out in Eorzea. But the potential rewards make up for the inconvenience.
One of the NPCs in the Pugilist guild knows the location of the next tournament and the secret to getting in, but information is never free...
Once you finagle Tiny's Triple Triad Tournament NPC linkpearl out of him, every week it'll flash and lets you know where the tournament is being held and any other pertinent facts. -

They already responded to the thread awhile ago. The most they said is that they're considering the feedback. We probably won't be hearing much else about it 'til after the summer.

That would be a huge announcement, however I still think it would take some time, that's why I would love to see it posted when it was only a few months away.
I say until then we keep asking for it, and keep asking for it until we get it. (Cost analysis aside)
Even if it's not TT, but a card game that we can play against NPCs or other players, and the tournament idea is excellent. -

Vanguard had a great idea with their card game, whatever it was called. My favorite aspect of it — one that I wish FFXIV would take and run with — was the city wide buffs that everyone would be granted just from the players playing and winning at the card game against the guards.
Of course, it did seem to get a little repetitive after a while, so the devs will have to avoid that. I don't remember from FFVIII when playing TT with the same person over and over again if they kept using the same cards or if the cards were chosen randomly from a larger deck. -

I'm sure you're all familiar with how rules worked in Triple Triad: each region would have it's own sets of rules and after playing enough times in one, you would be able to transfer a few of them to another region randomly. Of course, this is just a suggestion assuming they wanted to go that route. Personally, I think it would do good for the game balance if they picked specific playing rules(like elemental and plus) and just keep them as permanent rules. It wouldn't do to have players able to just plow their way through other players due to overpowered cards.
Establishing separate "mentor", "exhibition", and "ranked" game classes might also be a good way to foster a big community for the game.
