So, from a couple of weeks ago, but I realized I hadn't shared it. And because I'm me, I shall present this to you in the form of a vignette in screenplay form.

Interior, home office. The sky outside is dark. PACKETDANCER is seated at her PC, looking at the screen.
PACKETDANCER (to self): I suppose I could do a quick roulette before bed.
She clicks on 'Mentor Roulette'. The sound of a chime is heard as duty commences, and "The Minstrel's Ballad: The Weapon's Refrain" appears on screen.
PACKETDANCER (to self): ...uhoh.
The notice of a newbie bonus appears overlaid on the screen, like a declaration of doom.
PACKETDANCER (to self): Oh no. Still, this isn't the worst extreme, maybe it'll go smoothly.
A tank proudly wearing the sprout steps forward, hits tank stance, and charges.
TANK #1: C'mon let's dooooooo this!
PACKETDANCER: Wai--
Though the screen is not visible, the sound of death, raise noises, and explosions communicate with not a trace of doubt that things have gone Not As Planned. The 'wipe/restart' noise can be heard.
The party charges in a second time, with similar results.
A DPS: Gosh, everyone dies all at the same time! Are we just not geared enough?
TANK #2: Probably. But we can do this! Just have to go really hard on it with every combo!
PACKETDANCER: We need--
TANK #1: Let's GOOOOOOOOO!
TANK #1 charges in once more.
PACKETDANCER (to self): ...never mind.
More crashing, rez noises, explosions, and another wipe noise.
PACKETDANCER: Okay, wait! Before we pull again. How many people are familiar with this particular fight?
No hands are raised.
PACKETDANCER (to self): ...yeah, that tracks.
PACKETDANCER: So, this is an extreme fight. Extreme fights are ones with mechanics you really do sort of need to pay attention to, beyond just the 'don't stand in the bad' on the floor. Let me quickly go over how this particular extreme trial works...
The group listens as the mechanics -- notably the orbs, which have wiped the party three times, are explained.
PLAYERS: Ooooooh. Okay.
The party pulls one more time. This time people almost get the mechanic, but folks don't go after the orbs in an organized fashion. The party gets much further, but wipes.
The group sits down for a few to discuss how best to go after the orbs in a less chaotic manner, and attempts another pull. Noises of combat ensue for several minutes, followed by the FFXIV victory music. (And a whole bunch of first-time-clear achievements.)
PACKETDANCER: And there you go! Congratulations!
TANK #2: That was fun! I feel like there was more strategy to this!
A DPS: Yeah, we had to plan a bit! Are there more fights like that in the game?
ANOTHER DPS: Yeah! It would be fun to try more of these.
PACKETDANCER: There's actually a lot! If you're actually interested in doing more of these, stick around for a few; I'll tell you a bit about extreme fights and savage raids in general...

And the moral of the story is: for the love of the Twelve, Pax, why the heck would you queue for Mentor Roulette as 'one quick roulette before bed'?
No, more seriously... sometimes, Mentor roulette has a happy ending, especially when folks discover they enjoy content that's a little more of a challenge than just brute-forcing it. I hope those sprouts have gone on to find party finder groups to keep trying extremes as they continue onwards in their journey through the game.

It felt like a slap to the face as a healer who usually does help carry people. So yes, my anger was justified as this is a rant thread. Did I name and shame them out of fury? No. Did I harass them when they respawned? No, I kept my mouth mostly shut and apologized for failing to keep the whole party mostly up. The tank pointed out that 'hey, thanks for getting us through this since we were down a healer.'Quote:

It's rude to respawn when you have people that are still standing to pull a raid through a fight. I doubt you want the same to happen to you and you find yourself struggling to get people back up on their feet and keep them healed. 2400 mp per raise is not cheap. -

I had like a one and a half hour Orbonne Monastery run.
I honestly didn't mind, it was fun to struggle a little it gets a bit dull when you just rush through everything.
In the beginning of the run someone did a chat emoji trying to be all kawaii desu and cheerful '' lets do dis guys '' type of thing.
Some dude started giving the person shit and just started being really negative calling them overly happy and saying that it isn't normal.
I mean maybe someone can think it's a bit cringe but some people are really like that and it's not even a big deal?
Just ignore it?
On Thunder God is when the wiping began, same dude simply said '' Dinner '' then stopped moving.
So I suggested that maybe we should votekick since he was going to eat and we were already struggling the wipe before that we had died to the dps check and he was dps so I thought we couldn't exactly have someone afk through it.
Apparently he wasn't going to eat which I think was fair to assume considering his comment...
I don't know if this was him, but I have to assume that it was because of what followed.
Someone started constantly vote abandoning before every pull over and over again, and people start telling whoever it is to stop.
That's when he started accusing me of doing it... By name in group chat.
He was trying to make everyone believe it was me starting the vote and then when I said that it isn't he started calling me toxic and '' cranky lady '' repeatedly and just tried to make me look like some villain to everyone else.
Needless to say I reported him...
Raid went on for so long tho that I had no logs I couldn't scroll up far enough.
But just wtf...
Dude literally starts the whole raid with complaining about someone being positive and then starts being toxic as hell while accusing me of being cranky and trying to get me blamed for things he was most likely doing...
I am guessing he got mad because I suggested we kick him, but I think that's fair if someone is going to go afk to eat in the middle of a raid when we're already struggling on dps.................
It's not like I still wanted to kick him when he ended up not being afk, I never even began the votekick vote I simply suggested it and then nothing came out of it.
The run ended on a positive note for me tho some were pretty negative about how long it took but some of us built a sense of comradery. -

I tend to be a pretty forgiving and nice person but sometimes one person comes along that makes you go "uhhhhhhh....." and sharing it here is nice cause some people get a laugh out of it or a "I feel you" kinda moment. Everyone who plays this game for any decent amount of time has a story like this to tell. I don't see why you're so up tight about it when other sites have people post ACT numbers and sometimes evem unblurred names.Quote:

I keep forgetting how much pain Hollow Diabolos give to tanks, i rarely play alliance raid as a tank due to queue time vs dps but oh my god that is a place where i am so grateful of the healers. I still died to Double Edge phase sadly,
And yes i have been getting either Dun Scaith or Syrcus Tower, the former is always a bingo game or how many people die at the 1st boss or how much chaotic the last fight goes.
Still it is turning one of my favorite raids and peple have been chill and helpful most of the time in various DCs so happy times -

I've come once again to recount tales! But, this time these are tales of my own failures since I'm quite stupid most of the time.
Eden's Gate: Sepulture
I've reached unlocking the Eden series on my alt, something that I haven't even touched the Eden Titan fight on my main for literally close to a year, and I've only done the fight once, but that was mostly due to following someone around who had marked themselves that knew the fight. This time... that didn't happen. And I died so many times I lost track, literally my inner DRG probably had come out for that fight since I was dead on the ground 99% of the time. One of the AST constantly raised me to the point I just wanted to type for them to stop since it was a waste of MP at that point, no point in keeping me up only to die immediately since my HP immediately dropped to 0 due to not being healed on time fast enough (and me immediately clicking my mudra like an idiot and not waiting for the invulnerability buff to wear off).
Eventually, the healer did show their frustration with a passive aggressive "...", which is fair. I would've been frustrated too if I was in their position and to that healer I really do apologize. I didn't mean to be basically dead weight that whole fight and I do feel awful, but honestly it made me remember why I hated that fight with a burning passion.
Puppet's Bunker
Again, this was me being dead weight the whole time. It doesn't help that in the Nier raids that for some reason my laptop immediately seems to drop frames like crazy, and I absolutely do not understand the first fight. Three runs I had tried to be able to get a grasp on mechanics since it had been literally months since I last ran the raid, and as a result I was dead most of the time. I know eventually I will probably be decent enough to not be on the floor being the best floor tank I can be, but until then I apologize to all the groups who might be frustrated with my stupidity. I am trying, but it takes more time for me now to apparently wrap my head around mechanics since I am an idiot somedays. -
