I'm trying to get the mage top from the newest dungeon for my casters. I was loaded in with another RDM, AST and PLD.

First thing I've noticed was that the PLD didn't used the cooldowns but didn't the usual wall-to-wall pull. Ok, that'll take longer. The trash was dying slowly so I startet to watch what the other RDM was doing. Well... no AOE spells and the buffs... didn't used the buffs!!! I cried inside. Uuuuh there were no melee-combo over the whole run. No group buff. I saw no fleche and no contre sixte. No Acceleration. How do you reach 80 without doing the basics of your class :(((. The buttons are there for some reason :((

Bad apples from latest dungeon? I'll pitch in mine too, then.

This is a story from 2 days ago.
Paglth'an popped from Expert Roulette. DF graces me (WAR) with WHM, RDM, and NIN. First wall pull, mobs are dying fairly fast, but I don't see a single [Holy] cast from the WHM.. instead all I'm seeing were [Regen], [Medica II], & [Cure II] being thrown when I'm barely scratched.. well that's too bad. Because stuns are godsent in wall pulls & with the other two DPS are on their A-game, we could've burnt everything super fast. Shortly after the first pull was over, the WHM speaks up: "Can we pull smaller?"

Huh..? Well, okay. I'm not sure why they want one, but I'll comply and see what is it about... I divide the next pull into two. Maybe this will encourage the WHM to pitch in some DPS spells? Turns out I'm very wrong to expect that. They just threw a [Regen] then sit around doing nothing until my HP drops anywhere below 80% or so. Once we cleared first boss, I sprinted ahead the first pack to wall pull anyway. Mobs don't hit hard enough to warrant single pulls & as a WAR I have plenty of self-sustenance tools to last long enough without healer help until packs dies.

Suddenly my character yoink'ed backward. Yep. The healer [Rescue]'ed me before I reach to the 2nd pack. But here's where it gets funnier: the RDM proceed on to pull the 2nd pack & bring them to me instead :rolleyes: Now I know somebody's on my side in this case! When this pack dies, we get a "-_-" from the WHM. Beyond 2nd boss and onward, this WHM legit refuses to throw in anymore heals. No sweat, I don't need those overheals to survive :cool: Versus Lunar Bahamuth, the RDM would occasionally throw in [Vercure] but only for self sustenance & for the MCH mainly since that WHM was outright grieving us. It was also the first time I see the boss lasts long enough to see their tankbuster :eek:! It's called "Flatten"!

Boom, fending top drops. Yeah, just what I wanted to get. I dropped a "Nice, finally fending top." in chat to signal to the rest that they're not going to get that piece cause I'll definitely roll a Need on them. Half a minute goes by and the loot timer is still going on. Hoo boi :rolleyes: guess somebody's upset. I just performed a /yoldance then afk'ed for 5m to come back for my loot :o

Whenever I read your stories I feel awfully lucky that I've not come across half the aggrevating parties you have. Are you just a bad luck magnet or is there something else going on?

I was yoinked backwards before pulling everything after the first barrier before. Can't tell if it was an accident but they said nothing, I said nothing, rest of the dungeon was fine and uneventful. The party was competent enough that if it was a spiteful rescue then nothing came from it.

I don't mind rescue's existence but I do hate it when it gets used as a passive aggresive "plznobigpull", and I say this as a former healer main (until 6.0).

Right?! In my case, I felt they should've pitch in more than just a single [Regen] then went idle until next regen or healing needed. I see the fact that the RDM even pulled that pack for me tells me that at least 2 out of 4 in the group wants bigger pulls. NIN never spoke anything, but one thing is clear that only the WHM wants smaller pull. Majority wins mate, sorry not sorry. :/

Bless your luck if you really think so and I sure hope you won’t find too much of such parties. I could, or could not be a bad luck magnet. When people mention how bad experiences are more likely to be remembered, I suppose that’s what exactly happened in my case.

But if I try to look at bigger picture, I tend to get -more- good runs than the bad/funny runs. I just queue into duties so frequently hence that likely exposes me to more opportunities of encountering said events. Overall I’d get about 1 bad run from 8 runs I do, which I think it really isn’t that bad. :)

I do this extremely sparingly, specifically, when I am completely OOM (say when my DPS have been eating AOEs all dungeon and LD is on CD), I've dropped my bubble where I need us to stop, and the choice is rescue and do a single small pull while my MP regenerates, or wipe the party and go back to the start, wasting even more time.

Y'know what, there's a story here, might as well tell it.

I was in Holminster Switch on SCH with a friend of mine, and the GNB was pulling wall-to-wall, as they should. Our Machinist was eating just about every AOE from every trash mob they could, and I had to raise them a number of times. By the end of the first pull after the first boss, I was sitting on 300-odd MP. Our tank, oblivious to that fact, and apparently not noticing that I still had Dissipation on me, went to pull to the next wall, even after I had dropped Sacred Soil at the first group, in an attempt to signal to them that I needed a smaller pull, and in the end, I chose to rescue them back into my bubble so we didn't wipe. Dungeon ended up going smoothly after that, and even the machinist cleaned up their act a bit.

In level cap dungeons if you're running out of MP and the party ends up dying then either you or someone else in the party is doing something very wrong. In leveling dungeons I adjust based on party performance and my cooldowns. If I have to burn an invuln on a pull that otherwise shouldn't need it then the next pull is cut accordingly.

Back in Bardam's before ShB nerfed the hp of the enemies you remember the double pull before the second boss, Bardam? If I feel the party is underperforming then I don't pull both groups. It's only 6 enemies but those 6 enemies hit pretty hard. It doesn't matter as much through since they now die faster. If something is going wrong then yeah I feel you have a case, but in my run in particular nothing went wrong yet so if the rescue was sending a silent message it was an unnecessary one. Especially since the remainder of the dungeon I did full pulls and it was smooth.

Depends on your party and their not being oblivious to working as a team.

Oh 100%, that dungeon was a real outlier with an oblivious MCH who took more than their fair share of healing.

It takes a whole heck of a lot for me to go to the trouble of reaching all the way across my keyboard to actually press the rescue button.

Holminister’s was brutal the first time I ran it when the expansion dropped. Squishy GNBs at min ilvl just figuring out their class after power leveling it in HoH, and everything in there hits like a truck. Definitely can be a pain if you’re also having to babysit bad dps.

Trying to get more Aiming gear from Paglth'an, queued up as dancer. Ended up with a tank who didn't bother dodging AOEs and, in fact, ran TOWARDS the lasers on the second boss, and a dragoon who used about a third of their kit. No Dragon Sight, no Battle Litany, no Geirskogul, no Nastrond, no Spineshatter Dive, no Dragonfire Dive, no Mirage Dive, only one Stardiver that I'd swear was a misclick. Judging by how slowly the packs were going down, I'm fairly sure they weren't using any AOE at all, or if they were, not very well.

And, of course, after all that......no Aiming gear dropped at all.
