if they do show off the benchmark and I see healers use more nonsense oGCDs then I'm going to take that as a sign that they still don't know what they're doing with the role.

I mean, you're not wrong with the GIF, WHM has virtually no chance of getting Tornado in DT because they've completely moved away from elemental spells. :)

Jokes aside, I highly doubt we're getting much information on healers. I think the dev team is probably scared to even touch on healers at this point. If you look from their point of view, when they simplified healers, they got yelled at, when they increased healing requirements in Abyssos, they got yelled at, they probably think people hate everything (despite the fact that they were experiencing backlash for very good reasons).

Whatever they plan for healers (if anything), they're probably going to be keeping quiet, I think.

I really believe if they were simply more transparent and also open to discussion with the community, we could find a happier medium with far less difficulty. I think healers are in the state they’re in due to a lack of understanding of what the real issue is from the players who have been complaining. But we’ll see soon enough. If this does reveal the benchmark, then there should be at least a little bit of info about general role direction.

This wasnt entirely correct, healers weren't so much complaining about the healing requirements per se, but another requirement that made it feel as if the healing had gone up.

While the Devs themselves more than likely thought what they had done in Abyssos had the effect of increasing the healing requirement, what it really came down to was a mitigation check. Unless you were playing sage and their overabundance of mitigation tools to pick up the slack, the party was reliant on the dps having theirs on their hotbar and having the littlest of awareness to press it during raidwides. Even some tanks whose job is literally mitigation weren't even able to press their reprisal.

What ended up happening was the raidwide either flat out killed someone, or the subsequent bleeds from the raidwide finished them off a millisecond later. Trying to heal through the massive bleeds required GCD spamming hoping it was enough (unless your co-healer got k.o'd instantly by the bleeds too, then good luck).

Those same dps and tanks who were incapable of pressing their mitigation tools would go on to blame the healers for not healing enough. Making it so that no one wanted to heal for pf groups and deal with those players who infested pf. Hence the lack of healers and yoshi-ps "please play healer" comment.

On the other hand, if you had a group that was on point with their mitigation, it was still boring to heal.

The devs now course corrected with Anabaseios. Everything is a body check. Either everyone is alive, or everyone dies with nothing in-between, so you have nothing to heal now.

Tl;dr: the Devs have no idea what to do or how to design content for healers.

They moved away from elemental spells because in shadowbringer we were in an area where light was the dominant element so it made sense for WHM to pull aether from that to form their Dia and Glare spells.

Problem is, we went back to the Source in Endwalker but because "reasons" we still kept the light dominant elements.

And here is the happy medium they refuse to implement:

Increase the number of damage buttons on healers. Period.

The people who don't want to press them and want to be "Pure Healers"

DON'T.HAVE.TO.PRESS.THEM.

If all they want to aspire to is pressing Cure 1 repeatedly in casual content, then let them, that content is designed for that kind of healer. But if they want to get into higher tier content (EX and greater) it will require a higher level of gameplay that Cure 1 spam simply won't accomplish. If you want to join someone else's pre-made group, it's by the group leaders rules. You are not owed a group spot.

That’s the theory people like to say but WHM is not the only class that draws from the elements and it’s the only one affected by it. A lot of lore and old descriptions suggests that SCH leans more towards wind that any other element but it was unaffected by the light of the first, seraph has existed since HW lore wise, it’s just eos/selene with a huge amount of aether dumped into them (you notice this from the fact that her shields are holy not light based). There is no real evidence that the first was actually responsible for it

Honestly it’s more likely they just finally decided to dump off the residue of its CNJ roots and made it “sparkly light healer” that people had long been asking for prior to ShB when they had the free chance to change its core damage spell because they never use numbers above 4 because of the way the Japanese game names their spells

Running out of numbers (or suffixes in the Japanese version) wouldn’t be an issue if we didn’t get an obligatory replacement spell for our basic attack spell every single expansion. No other role does this constantly. I wonder why?

Well there was nothing at PAX East but that was to be expected to say the least. Well we're most likely going to be getting the job action trailer in probably late April or early May.
