How to Dragoon per Second: A DPS Paradigm

The issue is that I know that my static won't be clearing M2S, much less M3S any time soon. That means the savage boots, arms, and head, etc will be out of my reach until at least 3.35. And because of that I'm not even sure if I should try to get Anima or the Horde spear because it screws over everything else without those savage drops. I have a pentamelded 220 with ~50 acc right now and with Lore Spear I'm sitting at stats that are pretty comfortable.

Edit: I know I can wait for the anima, but not for the Horde spear. The skillspeed loss is way to much. Can't seem to get it working no matter what I try, given my planned progression path. Should I just... deal with the 530 skillspeed or am I just better off sticking with my Lore Spear?

530 skillspeed isn't a biggie. Look at "Dervys" personal set. It's 558 Skillspeed. You either have to deal with it, look for additional i230 replacements (maybe there's othe i230 > i240), or invest in Skillspeed Materia.

Okay, found something that works. Had to swap out a lot of materia melds to accuracy though but I'm pleased with this set. It's not A8S worthy but it should be enough for A7 and A6 progression.

a7s accuracy is 688. So unless your OT is doing the melee cage as well, you'll miss on the Alarum.

Alright, thanks for the correction. Time to start hoarding T5 Acc materia... But at least I have something decent to work with now.

This is probably the most advanced and most accurate layout of Dragoon rotations I have ever seen. I just ask myself. Where did he get all the time to compile such a detailed analysis. This had to take months to finish excluding time in game. But from an almost-Dragoon player, I salute you Dervy for all this.

Yeah some are still wiping a lot so getting the body on Ozma is not an easy task. Glad I got mine on my second clear (got lucky, we were 3 DRG's in my team). GL to you !

Dervy has been working on the OP since before Heavensward, and updates are made as new ideas/research come through from the playerbase. If you want to see the process of how ideas on playing DRG (and DPS in general!) have evolved, you could hardly do better than to read through Rotation Reborn, the first version of this thread, and this entire thread. Though, that's a couple years' worth of of epic thread; you probably wouldn't want to do this in one night unless you skim.

I just lost mine today to a floor tank DRG, I rolled 75...was pretty confident, idiot rolled 77. I have never wanted to wish death and misery upon someone else so much in my life.

You delay the second B4B 1 gcd so it's used before Vorpal, which is higher potency than before Phlebotomize, and still catch the Jump. Your sks and fey wind don't affect it.

Relic Stats:

• Critical Hit Rate: 120
• Determination: 114
• Accuracy: 6

With those 6 points in accuracy we can put a Savage Might Materia V (+12 Det) in the helmet instead of one acc materia with the "loss" of only 1 point of Determination (not really a loss because we earn 12 with the det materia) and still can reach 705 accuracy to meet A8S acc cap.

The only pieces needed for BIS past M1S are from M4S, so relic with all crit/det or horde weapon plus the Weeping City body fall in perfectly, they have the same stats as the Midan Body and Weapon. http://ffxiv.ariyala.com/TGXH

A bit of an open question maybe, but I was wondering what DPS some of you were doing in A5 and A6 back around ~i220 & 220 weapons. I was swapped from PLD to DRG this week and pretty far behind gear-wise. I'm trying to figure out how much DPS I should be doing. My only DRG clears were at 1177 and 1218 respectively (and they certainly weren't perfect rotations, but that's a part of learning), and I don't feel satisfied with these numbers. Sorry if I'm not providing enough info or if it's too open of a question to answer properly, and thanks.

I was able to snag the Yafaemi body Tuesday over another DRG in my group with a 77 role barely beating a 75. Stoked!

There is no definitive answer for this. You have to do what works for you.

I play on PS4 and use the crossbar. I have GCDs on the right side, OGCDs on the left, and jumps on the second bar. You want your rotation, especially your opener to be muscle memory, so I'd recommend experimenting with the hotbara until you get something that feels natural

Was that during 5/6? Or a dummy parse? If the former then I'd say I have every reason to be concerned about my performance lol.

Ariyala is not working for me anymore. Just a circle with a green light looping in the middle of my screen. Anyone else having the same prob ?

Alright, thanks for the input. I'm noticing issues with my DoT uptime compared to yours that'll probably make up for a bit of the discrepancy.

Phlebotomize usage is definitely one of my weaker points for DRG right now, it's something I've been focusing on since then. I'm still fresh to DRG in higher-end content so likely I just need to practice more. Thanks again o7

I'm trying to learn dragoon but i can only do 1300-1400 with i230 relic while on ninja i do 1700-1800 with also i230 relic, i've watched Dervy guide but i can't understand some things he says.

you guys got a optimal cd usage for nidhog? not getting that high dps as much as I want to / in comparison to other drg's on fflogs.

@Zalera one thing to consider here is that Jinzhu is an extremely skilled dragoon, by which I mean that the vast majority of dragoons (including the baddie that is me) aren't reaching those kinds of numbers if you check sites like fflogs. I'm not saying you shouldn't be aiming high, but don't feel too bad if you don't reach 99th percentile :p

Yeah, I've been going through their fflogs entries and others to gleen info. I understand that without the gear and the experience I won't be hitting high percentiles for a while, it's moreso that's the standard I hold myself to when I play. I like to think I did decently on WAR and PLD and I'd like to keep it up on DRG.

Hey guys, how do you recover from a rotation of IDC4th > phlebotomize > heavy thrust > TTT4th? I try to maintain the typical drg rotation, but sometimes I find myself using phlebotomize into heavy thrust.

I usually try to skip to what the next "correct" action to use in the rotation would be if I find myself in a weird situation like that. In the above scenario I'd probably throw Heavy Thrust again after TTT4th so that the rotation is "back on track"; your CDs might line up a bit funny for a bit and you might have to skip a Geirskogul to not drop BotD or delay a CD for its "correct spot". But it does depend on the mechanics of the fight and when there may be uncontrollable downtime or not. The solution I do is probably not the most optimal but its the easiest to perform for me and usually still lets me dish out quite a lot of damage.

what stats should i be stacking on the relic? just pumped 120 crit into it.

The best thing to do with this is just keep going following the "broken" rotation. It's important to remember that the DRG "rotation" is just a priority system. You would lose DPS if you attempted to do anything to "recover" that. Following what you posted there when the situation demands won't lose you any DPS over trying to strictly follow the default order, so it's best to just get used to the idea of the priority system over a rotation.

Why do you keep gearing up? I got my DRG to around 219? maybe 220? And having difficulty doing any more lore farming, as the last time i felt like something really increased my dmg, was when I went from Brionac to Partisan....

^, I don't farm lore anymore, I just needed lore for my earrings/ring trousers/helmet/gloves. After that I just quit doing that job-like grind lol. screw that.
I personally now am trying to get my savage gear, and I keep on gearing myself up cause I'm addicted for my drg like that lol, I want to get better gear so I can perform better/do more damage.

I just switched from Rhongomiant to Overlord and dropped around 100 points of SkS, and right now I'm sitting at 565. This is my current setup*, aside from a stupid meld I did on the belt - it's a Det5 insteand of a Crit5. Here's the thing: I don't know if the 2.40 conundrum is still relevant considering how this raid tier turned out (eg: frequent downtimes). I still seem to be able to pull off the double Geirskogul under B4B, and HT and Phlebo uptime seems unaffected in a dummy-like situation. In short: should I still be pumping Crit>Det or be worried about the 2.42 GCD affecting in some way my DPS?

*Jewels are yet to be upgraded/re-melded and some of the left side were just augmented but not melded, this way I should be just fine. Accuracy, assuming an Acc5 meld on the head slot, shouldn't be a problem even in A8 (though we are still progressing in A7).

It was only a no-no because it was poorly understood (by many, not all) which oGCDs could be used together, and the game's responsiveness was not as good at the time. Things have changed so much now that you can almost use Leg Sweep after a Jump and be okay. Almost. Heck, nowadays, Jump has changed so much that you can even use Jump from a distance and hit a GCD with the right timing, which is kinda useful for the first multibomb on Quickthinx (Savage).

I finally am in a static and am attempting to clear a5s. Current gear that was used for our first attempt this last weekend: http://ffxiv.ariyala.com/UR4Q

With food buff (HQ Black Truffle Risotto), but no potion, I was hitting about 1560 dps on Faust/Haummel. I was using Legs and Jump on Fausts, but saving all other cds for the big guy. Is this decent? Are there other cds I should be popping on the two Fausts?

Before our next attempt this weekend, I'll have enough Lore/upgrades, and Ui items to finish Anima, that I can go in with this set: http://ffxiv.ariyala.com/UR4R . This would require buying the Lore Feet and Necklace. I like where the stats are at on this, and pre-Savage I think its a pretty good setup. Of course, and advice on this is welcome as well!

One big concern for me is the next weapon upgrade. Our group is talking about farming Nidhogg to get us all i235 weapons, and I'm not sure how I could maintain acc of 665+ and sks in the range I am comfortable with (605-615). Looking at the Aug Primal Bracelet, since the sks I gain is more than the acc I lose, and it seems like any det materia I remove for acc/sks is a gain, but even then I'm not sure how to make up that much. Any advice here is more than appreciated.

Also, if there are just any general tips for maintaining good dps in a5s, I would welcome that. We are only one night in, so really only around the first Boost, but I'd rather start learning properly than have to go back. Especially if there are things I can do to help skip the first Prey and/or Boost.
