I'm going back even further. What if WoL could wake up and realize the snoozefest of the 6.x patches was all a dream?

The more I think about it, the more I realize how much the void series was also full of "friendship is magic" and "bonding over food" and "we have to understand each other." that Dawntrail did. Hell, I don't even think those are bad themes. All of the expansion stories have them to some extent, but there was just something so much more ham-fisted about it in these last two stories that made it feel like the target audience was 1st graders instead of teens and adults.

We could Pull Ardbert out of our Subconscious to get it voiced ^____^ granted i would love to hear Ardbert to pull a whole BAD KITTY scene... he'd pull it off much better. And for Koana we could just send him to the Miner's guild in Ul'dah (and if we have to the 1.0 version of the Miner's Guild} to help cure him of that

You know it's funny you mention that because earlier when I was watching my friend going through the MSQ and he got to Yesterland, and Poochie bombards poor lost Otis with all the things he wouldn't know, we both laughed at his reaction and went "yeah, I wish it was all a delusion my dude".

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who felt that way. Was thinking I'm crazy or something. Most of the time Koana is fine, but there were certainly moments... Poor writing all around obviously, the time he shows up at the hotel didn't come across the right way at ALL. That's not how a brother acts. That's how a weird obsessive boyfriend acts.

Generally the amount of "kitty," "kitten" crap coming from NPCs was definitely someone's kink. There was SO much of it. Nonstop. What sort of an insult is that even?? Drove me up the wall the entire time.

More reasons why this expansion feels like a terrible fanfic.

All the "sis-con" vibes are possibly a result of Hiroi's previous writing engagements... but I couldn't say for sure since I'm not exactly into visual novels.

Wuk lamat's trope is not the issue because time and time again it has worked in different lores such as Dragon Ball, Naruto, Chansawman etc. The issue is that it wasn't well written. When such a trope isn't well written then one has nothing left but noticing the trope.

Many have attempted to pinpoint the underlying issue but I think it was the writting of the story and specifically the dialogue. FFXIV has been very deep and philosophical but this time the dialogue was full with very superficial and cardboard-tasting platitudes that seem to be intended for toddlers. So for example: Wuk lamat is supposed to be the leader not just of a nation but an entire continent and she speaks about your happiness is my happiness followed by the "triumphant" music as if that line was something impactful when it wasn't. Compare that to the meeting the Eorzean leaders have with Varis in Stormblood and there is such a contrast in level of maturity. The game is PG 13 but even 13 yr olds dislike being talked down as if they were toddlers.

I think the writers are the ones who took the vacation on this one tbh. They relied too much on the visual and musical aspects and the writting quality was a distant second priority. Peopel say that disliking the story is not liking happy endings but a happy ending can be so without being dull and superficial.
