This is a pretty stupid comment. So your saying that for anyone who legitimately sells items in the Market Place and has had their items bought out buy a unknowingly by Gil seller its ok for their account to be suspended? If that's the case, no one is a safe using the market board. Or another scenario, I have a expensive item sell in the Market Place and I contact the buyer(Name listed in Retainer transactions) and ask if they would like me to craft them anything else. They agree, I craft the item and we do a direct trade.
Doing a global ban hammer on people over certain Gil limits is ridiculous.
Reddit post: http://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/commen..._suspended_if/
Did i say its a good thing, or that i agree with it? In an ideal world people who didnt knowingly participate in RMT wouldn't get caught in the net, but when RMT characters use the same methods to transfer gil/crystals etc as those who legitimatly use the marketplace, people get caught in the net. So please, tell me how you would tell the difference between the two going simply by logs of items sold/bought on the marketplace. When it comes to RMT as widespread as it's getting, people will get caught in the net even though they did nothing wrong. I agree it does suck for the innocent players, but what else can SE do but play it carefuly and double check everything?
Wow. Just wow... I feel horrible for the people that legitimately acquired their gil. I mean this has to hit REALLY hard on the people that truly enjoy this game and enjoyed making the 10m+ they have. I know theres tons of people that are going to "say" yea i obtained all my gil without the use of RMT, and im sure a lot of them are gonna be liars but im absolutely sure there are plenty of you out there that did earn it the right way and are upset about it. I know i would be hotter then a skillet with SE had i obtained 10m only to be banned for taking advantage of a new market economy. My deepest regards go out to the folks that got banned that didn't server it.
Now... This is going to contradict myself but honestly I am surprised at SE for taking such aggressive action to handle this problem. I mean look at it this way, everyone got banned for 72 hours. Hopefully they are able to clearly decipher who bought gold for real money and who didn't. If they do, and they perma ban the ones that did. Imagine how much gil thats going to take out of the economy. It would definitely make everyone elses gil worth more. Sellers would have to drop prices to sell things most likely but i think it will balance out for the better in hopefully a short amount of time.
Just try for a minute to look at both perspectives. Again that sucks royally for the "good guys" that got banned but try try try to look at it in a positive light.
I hope some of you guys that are getting banned are the guys that believed that everyone that got banned for RMT spam were obviously gil buyers or cheaters.
This was what i was thinking. Normally people buy gold because they want to purchase something on the marketplace which costs a lot of gil, so legit players end up getting the gold bought from the sellers.
Also it's a trick gold sellers use to transition gold. The player puts an item up for the amount of gold they bought and the gold seller buys it. So it's kind of not surprising that SE is getting a bit suspicious of people selling stuff for super high prices when quite a few people are finding it hard to make money.
Like you said best wait and see, then judge after the investigation is over :).
I wouldn't believe anyone on the internet saying they are legit and got suspended, when you get unsuspended then maybe I'll believe it.
:) ? Seriously?
I pay a subscription to play this game. I'm buying a service. That service is not being provided. For all the people saying to wait it out that's just crap. A lot of us have done nothing wrong and want to play the damn game we are paying for.
If I come across angry I truly believe I have reason to be angry.
Your friend was buying gil. These lies pop up every time there is a ban wave from the so-called innocent but it is always people that know damn well they cheated in some way. Should permanent ban the suspected account and this guy defending him both. RMT and bots are out of control good job SE lets get some more bans going.
I know I've done nothing wrong and will be un-suspended.
What I'm annoyed about is the time/gil I will have lost.
The many of same people accusing us on here as beaning cheats, will probably end up in the same position as us sooner or later. Lets see what they say then ;)
Okay, the title of this thread gave me a scare so I immediately went to try and log in. All is fine for me. I have more than 1 million, but this was accumulated in 1.0, and I have not done anything shady.
Problem is innocent people do get caught in the net by unknowingly selling items to people who bought gil. Thats where the frustration is coming from, not the people pretending to be innocent. But its a sad fact that its hard to tell the two apart unless SE investigates the accounts, which does lead to some people being suspended.
I made about 300k this morning just assimilating materia, it's not hard to make gil...
I don't think there's any truth to this. SE is smart enough to know that having gil doesn't make you an RMT. Trading large amounts of gil for nothing in return though, can be suspect. They use a system to track where gil is being sent around and stuff (they called it RMTPWN3R 2.0 in FFXI or something like that) in order to identify who is likely RMT.
Kinda suspicious how they start banning after Legacy players subscribe for 3 months to get the floating mount...
I agree let's start with YOUR account; you are a level 50 Alchemist, Goldsmith, AND Weaver, you probably sell items on the market board probably for a profit. PROVE that you didn't cheat or bot in some way, PROVE that you didn't sell to an RMT or a gil buyer. Now do you see the problem or do I have to simplify it further? Oh and by the way you can call back in 3-7 days during normal business days/hours wait on hold for over 2 hours only to be told that customer service can't/won't do anything about it.
Sound fun?
Oh my mistake I checked your character again, apparently you have ALL the crafting classes @ 50
Also one of my best friends got banned for having ~400K gil he earned this after busting his tail gathering and crafting for hours each day in order to afford his relic weapon and the FC and Player housing when that comes out. So I ask all of you is this an acceptable solution?
I have about 500k and it's all from crafting and farming. 1,000,000 gil is probably only a wee away for me. If they ban people with over a million then I guess they will be wiping out a lot of ppl.
Actually I think it is on people with well over 1mil gil on new servers. They know legacy server people came over with shit tons of gil, unless someone knows some legacy server people that got suspended?
In every MMO I've played there will always be people who know how to "play" the Markets through buying and selling low/high, crafting or who know how to monopolise a specific market. I've been one of those people.
Now I'm being banned(temporally) because I'm good at it?
When my account is restored, once investigated, I want a new minion "RMT Ouija Doll"
Sorry SE, but I will not be setting up a active subscription for FFXIV. I don't want to play a MMO where they ban first and ask questions later. (Especially with SE bad customer service record.) Who want to play a game where one have to question each action one do and ask oneself if the action may trigger some automatic RMT behavior filter.
SE did exactly the same in XI when I was playing it. SE started to ban people that sold certain items to a certain NPC, just because that some RMT had done the same. This was the tipping point when I stopped paying for my XI subscription back in the days.
If you area high level crafter it's possible that someone who did make a RMT then purchased 500k of your goods to insta-pimp a fresh 50. The money trail would make you, temporarily, guilty by association, and that's just one example of how you could get caught in the dragnet. The methods they use to track RMT gil wouldn't be sophisticated enough to weed you out, you'll just have to wait a day or two for them to separate the real violators from the rest. The rest need to go, a day or two is worth it. SE has all the pertinent data and it is their interest to have a very high standard of proof for bans. I would never believe anyone that actually does get perma-banned then claims they did nothing wrong. The prisons are full of innocent people, just ask them.
Well, who knows who did what. SE will figure it out. Doing it this way is probably a good way to lose legitimate subscriptions tho.
If you buy shards on the market, like I do, you have no idea how they were obtained.
Have I even unintentionally bought shards/mats from botters? It's quite likely, but it's the same for anyone else buying shards/mats off the in game market.
They should never have chance to get to the market in the first place, so ban the botters, not those who unintentionally buy their ill-gained mats off the market.
I'm fairly sure a lot of people who have ever bought shards bought them from a bot or two. Bots were mainly the ones selling them in 1.0 when shards were created through alchemy and cooking, and it was obvious by the retainer names selling them. Now SE has made them take so damn long to obtain, bots are still all over it and all over selling them for stupidly low prices. I haven't bothered to check on my legacy server, but now I'm curious if there are any obvious bot retainer names listed with 999 shard stacks for sell lol.
Well, I think this might be one:

Not stacks of 999, but the name is too bot-ish. Not like people who bot don't make retainers with normal names, but this one is very obvious.
I from new server, yesterday, i got so happy for 1st time because all my HQ alumen and Materia sells well and earn almost 150k for the 1st time, i never made that much gil before but boom, after a while i getting suspended. And noted i only got 60k now in my char :/... :(:(
yea the STF killed half of its users in FFXI, guess their trying to start early and make it so theirs very few players in the game, cant even make money without getting banned lol...
This is a bad way to do it. I really don't understand why they can't just have reps in the world banning botters who are gathering stuff like shards. They are so clearly in the open and not only that just ban the entire account and any associated characters tied to that account. Some on my server have been teleport hacking for weeks now and still going.
Seriously put reps in each city and you'll clear out so many gil spammers. Ban them and their alts on the account in no time they will accomplish more.
A lot of people do not read the ToS in mmo's, it clearly states they can ban you for any reason they deem necessary, they don't even need a reason, yes its sucks but its the ToS we all agreed too.
Also a blanket suspension makes sense to freeze the funds being transferred across the RMT characters, yes some so called civilians will be caught in the cross fire but its to help the server over a whole which i respect SE for doing i wish more MMO companies would have the balls to do this imo..
Also at least two people in this chat admitted to making money by scamming the Auction house early and Auction house flipping for their own gains, while technically not against the ToS i still personally see it as exploiting the economy its morally wrong and in my opinion deserves a ban as much as RMT does there is very little difference in my eyes..
And selling runs to Dungeons seriously those people/scammers need to go.
So, I hate to be the one to break it to you, but if you're talking about your character on Gilgamesh - not only were you suspended, but you were also hacked. Your name is in my blacklist, and the only people who get in my blacklist are RMT spammers.
So, that might be why you got hit :(
I'm glad they are throwing the ban hammer on suspicious accounts, I don't think they just ban you because of having 1, 2, 5, or even 10 mil. they probably ban whoever got 1m+ from one/two trades, some sell runs which I'd suspect could be investigated to see if they indeed purchased gil or just sold a run to get that amount of money.
This will stop the gil buyers, ban the bots, the sellers and the buyers, then FFXIV will be a happy RMT free place ñ.ñ
Selling runs is completely valid and should not be punished, it is a way to sell in-game services, just like repairs or crafting, you "rent" experienced players to do X or Y tasks. Yes the prices for titan are crazy but heh, it is still a valid option for those with the coin for that.
Note that it is partially impossible to simply hack someone, once someone tries to access your account, it will lock the account if it is out of the range of IPs. So I don't know how exactly they access your accounts without you getting an e-mail warning you about it.
so if you get banned randomly because you worked really hard to get to 50 of a craft with full materia in all the slots which cost a crap ton. Then your able to sell 2 star items which are worth alot as their the best items before alligan. You happy that they are getting flagged for no reason, and have to sit their over the weekend?
At least in FFXI the people most of the time where using time where using exploits or something like that to deserve the bans. If SE wants to have a living economy this isn't the way to go about doing it, as anyone that wants to play the economy will just be banned for being smart
TBH this is honestly what happens when they let this rmt issue last so long i honestly do not agree with the way the are handling this when they let it fester for so long. I hope the people who got banned who didn't rmt get back on free my friend god wrongfully banned and unbanned later so I am sure you all might aswell.
so if you get investigated for 3 days which is a temp ban. would you be happy, even though you haven't done anything wrong. Because if i was getting investigated when i pay money to play this game, and i have 3 days taken away from me while they investigate i would be pretty upset.
So crafters who made a fortune from being the first on their servers to sell relics are screwed.
Anyone who saw a sinoidal pattern of certain items on market bought low and sold high (weekend prices ^ weekday price are low) and make a killing are suspended.
Well this is just spiffy ain't it.
Well i guess lazy people are safe and those who actually work and find way to make gil without resorting to RMT is penalized... while it seems like (at least on reddit) quite a few gil buyers are gloating and laughing at SE blanket suspending innocents.
Just wow. =\
