You didn't know the G in MMORPG stands for Grind? :p
You should see some of the gear dropping in Bahamuts Coil! You cant buy it anywhere, its better than all of the stuff you can buy with tokens, it looks amazing.
Why are you still farming AK for darklight when there's so much better to be had!
And dont say you need Darklight for coil ;) Plenty of FC's have been clearing it wearing a lot of green gear!
The game is barely a month old if that and your crying because there is only 1 dungeon. I have a suggestion go play another class for a few weeks while casually working on the grind of your gear and wait and see how the first expansion goes. I am betting they will be adding more dungeons in short order. I am no SE fan but even on this note I would like to give them a pass at least till the first content pack they release and see where things are after that.
So like, i didnt read all the pages of posts here but uhh.. in 2.1 their adding more lvl 50 dungeons... they will most likely give the same rewards.. so stop trying to be "the best" right now and wait? Go craft or something, it's not that serious your just frustrated.
If you just want to face a boss you have fought 50 times before go fight Ifrit, Garuda or Titan. You don't have to clear trash for those as I'm sure you know, you can just spam them repeatedly and they do drop Philosophy as I recall. True, you do need to do AK for Mythology but you do not have to have AFv2 for any of the content save for maybe Binding Coil and people have beaten Titan in less than full Darklight. Get past Titan and get your W on Binding Coil, until then your point is moot.
Also, if you spirit bond trash gear while fighting trash mobs you can make a ton of money, like the 200k I made yesterday off materia alone.
That aside, how about level some more jobs, a craft, a gathering class. I've done maybe 5 full runs through AK so far yet kept myself more than entertained in the 2 weeks the game has been out. Then again, I'm not selfish and I help others out with things, craft them stuff and screw around theorycrafting.
I agree there should be other ways to obtain Mythology but... I mean, expecting half a dozen endgame instances that help you obtain the best gear in the game within a month or two of launch is just asinine. Even more so than my taking someone with the name Lebron James seriously. In the end, this game requires intelligence if you want to be successful. You can't just queue for dungeons in AF and expect that to sustain you. You have to be smart enough to see the opportunities to make money or efficiently build your status. It's all part of the fun in the big picture.
there should be chest drops from the trash mobs at least.
So glad they fixed this speed runs, there will always be ragers and crying kids like the OP when an EXPLOIT gets fixed and they can no longer have things so easy and handed to them in a silver platter. This same type of person are a few weeks later in forums raging for the lack of content and that they have nothing to do in game.
Games are suppose to be fun and played, if u dont like farming hard for your gear then go do something else or maybe try a different game, cause for every 1 of u theres 10 more who actually enjoy taking their time and working hard for their end-game gear.
Once again ty SE for working so fast on this type of issues and fixing them, you are doing a great job keeping the real players happy and entertained with the game.
Thank you! I hate this token system thats been going around for a while now. Oh no poor Timmy didnt get his drop this time .. boohoo. Go and try again! One of the best parts about MMOs is getting that sweet drop after a while then losing your mind when you won it. Instead we degrade into this token crap because the losers want to get a participation trophy too. Fucking WoW!
Bring back end game loot drops please!
That said, no you should have to clear out most of the dungeon at least before completing it. Speed runs are just as shitty gameplay as the tokens themselves. I agree they should add more like ... oh I dunno, have the other high level dungeons drop badass gear so people can play it?
I think its funny how this game has only been out a couple weeks and people are complaining about "end game". Maybe if you had something else to do with your time while SE develops more content for a game that just came out you would be more happy. Give it time, shit. With all the complaints people have and all the work they are doing to fix it then having people complain that they want more that just seems a little unfair. Unfortunately everyone's mentality is "I paid for it so I should get EVERYTHING I WANT RIGHT NOW OR THIS GAME IS STUPID". Grow up please. I do agree that farming ONLY AK is pretty shitty and they should have at leased put a few other dungeons on release, but you're still playing so the game obviously is doing something right. I love this game while you're farming just take some time to do other stuff, help out some noobs, craft a few items, hang out with the FC. Just give it time.
I lol'd so hard.
So... hard...
Calling FFXIV a ridiculous grindfest is pretttty laughable. Compared to FFXI it's pretty tame, and compared to games like Lineage and Ragnarok Online it's babytown frolicks. Games where it took LITERALLY A YEAR to reach max level.
Hell, WoW was grindier than FFXIV is.
It's to keep players subscribing for a long period of time in order to obtain all these necessary tomes and gear.

Also, Strong the QQ is... yes.
The thing is, there's supposed to be a 24-man raid (Crystal Tower) in between this content and Coil. Once it is added to the game, your perception of the grind / gear progression will change quite a lot.
So let me summarize this thread in short detail.
The game is new, and we are missing multiple levels of content between AK and coil. The biggest missing is the tower, and potentially some of the hard mode vesions of the leveling dungeons may be between AK and the tower (or at least equal to AK).
Progression is and will be the following, get to 50 ilv50 AF, run some AK for ilv60 and by then we can get some darklight gear and potentially one item of ilv90. (potentially some better gear then AK in other hard modes, yet to be know till released). With this gear you start working on the tower and get some ilv80 gear and more mythos for more ilv90 gear. Once you have done this content you are ready to enter coil (with the gear expected to use for this based on how it is balanced).
SE gave us coil knowing very few people would be able to actually do this content, and that you would be forced to grind like crazy for max darklight and as much ilv90 gear as possible to actually handle the content. In the tank department, WAR do not have the massive cooldowns to even attempt this w/o grinding the max amount of gear (and even then its much harder then PLD has it) and the OP is mad about this. Don't have this content, and people would have QQ like crazy that there was a grind but there was nothing to be grinding for.
FFXIV is plagued with the same issue EVERY MMO has at release, limited endgame, or slightly worse as we are missing the first tier of endgame but have the second tier which isn't as accessible as it should be. SE expected a small percent to grind it and work on coil, and expect most of the playerbase to slowly work on gear to be fully ready for the tower in a little over a month when 2.1 drops. Nothing is making us grind to try coil, get ready to do the tower and enjoy the game, and stop the QQ.
so ppl get to 50 in less than 2 weeks... and now want the af weapon in less than 3.. if it takes more than a month to achieve.. is excessive grinding??
just no... if you want instant gratification.. go play candy crush..
Why even play a mmorpg if you hate playing the game...and call it a grind
OP,
Looking forward to the inevitable "I've got everything, there's nothing to do" thread posted in another week or two.
I think it's pretty rich stopping us from speed running when it was Yoshi and his dev team that got us into the mould of speedrunning stuff with 1.0.
As a hardcore Diablo player, I LAUGH in the FACE of people who say this game even scrapes the surface of "grindy". Aw so you gotta kill a few extwa monsturs wit yer dunjun lil babby? POOR BABBY!
go play a real grinding game, nub. Come talk then.
Are people STILL bringing up the speed running business? Speed run was exploiting a system, there is no argument in that. Drop the god damn argument on that note.
What is being OBSERVED however, is how speed runs are a very obvious symptom of a much larger issue: Dungeons right now are a joke. The key mobs for opening the door was a nice touch, I'll admit that. However, the correct fix wasn't adding more trash. People who were already fed up with wasting time killing trash that yields absolutely no benefit to them, whether it be through xp or items, don't want even more trash added on top of it. They could have solved it by giving them a better drop table OR making trash fights more dynamic rather than the boring, tedious "tank and spank" it. What we're arguing is that there is absolutely NO IMAGINATION NOR INCENTIVE behind the overall design of dungeons. VERY few parts of every dungeon in FFXIV are exciting or fun, but overall, it feels like they're just trying to reinvent the wheel.
Lol, its almost like grinding on crabs for "content"... oh wait... that was something people wanted in this game too...... http://kidshealth.org/kid/talk/come_...e_in_cheek.gif
(Pic added in case people missed it... Stryker....)
I wonder what the incentive will be for running hard mode dungeons? Could it be more tombstones? Could it be another reward? I'm curious to see what 2.1 will bring.
Well the thing is, is that people over time find out ways to outsmart a system. It always happens in life, whether its a game or what. I think the gripe the OP has is that its been made more difficult through tedium rather than actual difficulty. There's a difference between something being tedious and hard. Something tedious is something that is simple by nature but just takes a long time. Like changing your car engine oil isn't hard, it's somewhat tedious.
But I understand everyone elses point too. People that started of 50 or grinded up to 50 faster than others get to find the loopholes and abuse them longer than people that just hit 50. While unfair, it's a part of life. As many people have stated, dungeons themselves are the problem and by adding more trash mobs that give little to no benefit at an end game dungeon doesn't add difficulty it just makes it more tedious.
I'm not lvl 50 yet, but I don't look forward to having to grind out a dungeon a lot more times just to get the gear I need to progress end game. If there were more choices I wouldn't mind, but as it stands it makes me cringe getting to 50.
Also Zakarn, your statement is taken completely out of context since people talking about grinding on mobs aren't talking about grinding on the same mobs, but the option to party grind outside of fates and a dungeon. What you did is essentially michael moored a point by taking a snippet of a larger conversation to use in your favor. Personally that's pretty weak.
Edit: No I got what you were trying to say. You were trying to mock people who were talking about how they enjoyed the game when they could party and they would use examples of grinding on crabs. The whole point of their argument wasn't grinding on crabs for content is fun, it's the process of playing with a party and bonding over that.
OP have a look at the WoW end game in MoP. That is a grindfest. FFXIV has grinding as all MMORPGs do, but WoW takes the cake with end game grinding.
Agree with OP. If you're not farming your 300 T2 here a week you're doing something wrong, sadly. They really set a bad tone for endgame like this. Plus you all know when 2.1 comes out that the 300 limit will be raised or removed for sure and if not 2.1 then 2.2 for sure. It's been reduced to farming primals for loltokenamounts and a RNG weapon drop or farming AK for tokens but pretty bad gear. Primals are already in a bad way with the way drops work. At least for ifrit I've seen books/cudgels/bows drop most the time, staff/h2h/axe sometimes(rare) and sword/lance never drops. After 30 runs I feel pretty confident something is up. Increase token drops for primals by 20/10 for ifrit, 40/20 garuda and 50/30 titan. Viable way to farm tokens and have a shot at gear without the boring grind of AK.
People who aren't agreeing with me are white knighting this game way too hard.
I get it, you love the game. I like the game, it's fun. But the loot system is horrendous and after a boss you never really are excited about what's about to drop. Plus mobs drop nothing of value, literally 0.
If they dropped SOMETHING I wouldn't mind killing the mobs.
Keep white knighting the game though instead of pointing out some flaws. Maybe square will admin you or something.
Wait, are you saying that an Asian MMO is grindy?
http://www.reactiongifs.com/wp-conte...mind_blown.gif
Why do people always resort to 'all mmos are grinds.' I'm grinding out tomes with items I know I'm going to get. That makes almost everyone I know fall asleep item wise.
There are no interesting things in this game as far as loot goes. You see it in your vendor, you see it on your quests.
I'm playing an mmo to kill a badass boss and get some badass loot.
Not farming it all to get a tome.
Hmmm. So because I'm not panicked and "outraged" because I read the patch notes differently than you did, I'm a white knight? Because I disagree with you. Your argument seems to imply that things won't change, that this is now how it will be for the life of the game. If this is not the case, then why are you so worked up? Let me elaborate on what I mean.
For ease of understanding I highlighted in bold that part that seemingly differentiates you from me. Does it suck in the meantime if that is all you are doing is tombstone runs? ya, probably. If thats all you have left to do in the game, then I'm extremely sorry about your luck. There are more dungeons coming in the major patch 2.1 as well as hard mode dungeons and hyper primal fights. I doubt they will wait until then to add more tombstone drops from enemies or other ways to make "trash mobs" more worth it. Its a little over 2 weeks after the launch of the game. Give it some time man.... Its just a game, no need to get all worked up.Quote:
-Changes have been made to the behavior and mechanics of the enemies found within the “The Wanderer’s Palace” and “Amdapor Keep” dungeons to counteract instances of players running through the dungeon without engaging enemies on the way to bosses.
As advancing through dungeons without defeating enemies is not an intended strategy, we plan to continue making further changes in the future to discourage this type of behavior.
-In instance dungeon “The Wanderer's Palace” and “Amdapor Keep”, we have increased the amount of AllaganCoins that can be obtained from a treasure chest.
-Reduced the amount of gil required for repair fees and materia removal as follows:
You say this like they really have nothing else they could be focusing their efforts on. Unless you have some internal knowledge of how the game have progressed to the stage it is now behind the scenes (i don't mean "other MMO's) then your assumption that the team "just havent given it enough thought" is very insulting, IMO.
It's just something that could've been so easily fixed with some thought, zakaran.
Giving hard-mode primals a chance to drop a sigil that could've been sold at revenants for 300-400 Philo OR 100 myth.
Who knows. Maybe the whole loot from bosses is overrated.
Amazing...OP cries like the real Lebum James does when he doesn't get the refs to call a foul.
