Do you know that USA is not the capitol of the planet Earth? and it's NA/EU servers?
The only way that this stuff will get fixed or their services improve is if they maintain the game and fix what is broken.
There is no magical hammer space where they can patch the game w/o inconveniencing anyone.
All regions will feel the effect of the long maintenance, some more some less depending on their time zone/peak hours for that region.
I don't see how this is unprofessional in the least. Unprofessional would be to allow the current problems go unresolved.
The reason I disagree w/ the OP and those who share his views is because they're behaving like nabs. They're behaving as if this maintenance schedule was made up specifically to spite them and their game time. Well, ya know, guess what- they're not that special and they need to stop spewing vitriol and discontent throughout these forums for things that don't require such a volatile reaction.
Right, insulting me with out any knowledge claps to you too. BTW, I'm not an american, but judge from your reply ... yeah you might be right!! :D
Yeah I didn't work for MMO company, congrats you're right!! but I worked for the company much more larger than just MMO company. It's on the different scale in term of infrastructure, we have to maintain our up time 24/7 and have full back up servers when the main one are down. So, tell me about that.
I'm going to stop now, you guys don't use any reason any more. No reason to drag on, cheer.
This thread... is a shocker... For one day a week... go out hang out with friends have a few drinks... It's not gonna be the end of the world if you miss a night a week of gaming. From what i see there's a lot of people from NA not fussed about missing a night of gaming for maintenance. Think of the bright side... more stability... better quality. Think about the people that have to work on the Maintenance... If you want them to cater to NA. They'll be a graveyard shift... is that just?
LOL'd so hard
for me its perfect as the game comes back online just after my post-round so about midday for me. poor USA has to find life beyond FFXIV for one night.
No, that was the combined NA/EU players. Theres even oceanic and middle eastern on those server who are mostly unaffected.
I remember when at start of Star Wars: Old Republic maintenance was hiting bad EU players (same issue: often we were loosing our glorious "prime time") and all those friendly american players telling us to "deal with it". /end of trolling
Actualy Blizzard closes us servers and eu servers on diffrent times - its one day difference. Wow eu and us servers dont share any data - you cant play with eu account on us servers and vice versa.
I think the main reason why maintenance must be done same time, is that all servers share many services and data - first and most important - duty finder and main pve juice - dungeons. So technicly it would be very hard if not impossible to turn off only part of servers when adding a new content or implementing critcal fix.
More cons then pros atm.
Cya in the dungeons
lol silly americans think its their game
Not only does the timing suck but how can they need 10 hours to do "maintenance" in this day and age? WTF are they using for hardware, pentiums?
I find GW2 boring as hell but ANet as a company has its tech shit together. Their game just doesn't have much down time and THAT is how it should be for ALL MMORPGs these days.
I want you to think in this scenario
Global Maintenance: NA/EU/JP maintenance in same time -
When problem occurs, SQ-EX can fix all at the same time.
Separated Maintenance -
When problem occurs, SQ-EX must separate fix.
Which one is easy to manage?
By the way, you have to think about number of staffs in company and also the cost. There are many factors in Business. Business is important, Customer Service is also important. But It's about Management. If you think your idea is better or you can do better, why don't you run your own company? I guess I will see "RED" in your balance sheet. lolz
I really don't get folks who get upset over these things. I mean, don't you have another MMO or some other game to spend some time with? That's what I usually do whenever a long maintenance takes place
oh please we put up with 24 hour maintance before on ff11 and it was not a issue why should it be a issue doing 10 hour maintance during proime time Australian and NZ dealt with all the time for the western mmos so why should the U.S. be treated any different for a japan mmo i'm sorry but as much as we have screw the Australians and NZ with maintance be done during their prime time i have no issues with this go outside for a walk
ITT: People want SE to work 24/7 and waste massive amount of time and money just so Americans can play a video-game on one evening.
i think the maintance time is fine where it si though
How interesting from SWToR which cried and cried about its odd and long maintenance times that ruined prime time in many time zones until F2P created its new and unhealthy community, FFXIV now has one thread about it. How annoying. No one does anything different. Just me me me mentalities. Sad really.
Though I really shouldn't care. At least the complainers have more motivation to play now than I do.
I live east coast Canada and work nights, this maintenance time is the best thing ever. It starts before I wake up to go to work, and finishes shortly before I get home from work.
I really don't care that downtime is prime time. I get it, Japanese Company. What I care about, is that the game and the servers are getting worked on. And oh... btw.... I'm American. It's everyone's game.
Only tried GW1 but I've been a fan of their update mechanism since it was launched so I understand what you're saying when ANet has their tech shit together. But, iirc, that implementation is proprietary (and was highlighted as a game feature).
Btw, you need to take into consideration system design of various MMORPGs. Let us be reminded various game features can also be anchored to incorporated protocols/infrastructure they use for implementation/rollout. What is perfect for one game is not necessarily perfect for another.
Honestly, it sounded like you were saying any mmorpg producers should copy this game and underlying structure (by who has their tech shit together) and just change the look+feel so it becomes a new game package
Hope they ban your ass instead because of crying.
Typical american sterotype: "Me, me, me me."
Happens 3am-1pm here, so I wouldn't be on anyway. Considering how much time I put on this game, it's almost a shame it's not on my prime time, could do something else for once. >.> Think of the good news, more upgrades to the servers, definitely worth waiting for.
There is no regional scheduling because you can play on any datacenter.
Go play some Dota 2.
This may be crazy to the mostly basement dwelling, adult crowd in this chat, but has it occurred to anyone that the OP is just an annoyed child? Way to jump down someone's throat for having a narrow view. You're all extremely mature. *claps*
If you find yourself raging out because you are "inconvenienced" by an online-games downtime then you need to assess your priorities in life. Missing that one night does not cause you any harm.
Your sir, need to find something else to do with your time. You knew it was coming around, so you should of planned to get some other activities in your life done whilst it is down.
The interruption to your "game-time" is for your benefit! This should never be an issue to you.
because america is the center of the universe, right?
Regardless of it, they're patching at the time they feel comfortable with, no reason for whining. For once americans gets the short end of the stick OH GOD OH GOD. It's not the end of the world.
They won't make separate maints cause of how the client works, you have the chance to chose where to play at all time, may it be jp or na/eu, so it just makes sense that they do one big main to update all at the same time. Less risk of something going wrong and whatnot. Everyone in the world but US has dealt with it already, i'm pretty sure that if for once US deals with it, it won't be the end of the world.
"ONLY" game? Man, guess these people haven't really played many Korean MMO's out there. Majority of them patch smack in the middle of the day for hours on end.
It's perfect for me. 0:00 -10:00 am here in europe, sweden at least. So if it's great time for both europe and japan I dont' see what you're complaining about? I'm pretty sure those two gorups together outweigh just NA
dat special snowflake
OP Maintenance Happens and fixes stuff. Everything will be ok.
02:00 - 12:00 just sounds perfect to me.
perfect for me too btw. I can play late at night (2am) go sleep then go to work and come back to play again without seeing a bit of the maintenance :)
It's a 10-hour maintenance. There isn't more than a 4-hour block of time outside any of the game's 3 regions' prime time, so someone's going to get impacted. Also, the game is still on several types of lock-down, including a sales stoppage on its biggest source of new customers less than 2 weeks after launch. It's critical for them to increase capacity, install critical tools and functionality, and make some serious bug fixes. And last but not least, it's probably a good idea if the people at the center of this major operation aren't pulling a 12-hour all-nighter after a 12-hour all-day shift. :)
Anyway, once maintenance gets more routine, like around 3 hours long, then SE should be able to slide them into one of the two non-primetime periods. If they don't, then maybe the affected region will have some justification to gripe about it. But in the past, maintenances were only about every month or two, and had a big list of new game features with them, so there was mostly excitement rather than griping, IIRC.
You'll cry. You're gonna cry. You always cry, see? You're crying.
