This is one of the main reasons I've been recommending they swap Freeze, Apocatastasis, and Manawall with Blizzaga, Firaga, and Thundaga. Keep the high-tier damage spells on the BLM, make future THM Jobs trade that damage off for their Job skills.

I just made a thread about this. BlLM was fun at first but now that I'm lvl50 I realise it's nothing but fire ice fire ice
Huh? I find myself using all of my abilities. Yes, even Freeze.
Manaward and Manawall can result in some heals for other party members than you.
I am using Aetherial Manipulation all the time, I can often get one more cast off. Since I can just finish another cast, and then jump my way to a party member and dodge the AoE.
Freeze has saved my groups from wiping before.
Convert + Swiftcast = Love.
Etc.
Honestly. I find that A LOT of people blame the game, rather than to look into the mirror.
the BLM abilities can be used in an imaginative and efficent way. But, dear lawd Jebus in spaghetti heaven. That requires *gasp*.THINKING OUTSIDE THE BOX!?
Someone who is good at thinking on the spot and reacting within a second, call it reflex or instict.
Will make great use of some of the abilities, while someone who is slower. Need a guide for everything, or just sits back and needs like 1 minute to comprehend what is happening, is not going to find any use for them whatsoever.
Btw, I don't disagree that there could be some more awesome looking abilities. Even tho I already feel pretty damn powerful playing a BLM.
I wouldn't mind meteors n shit like that :P.
But honestly. It kinda bothers me, and is kinda sad. When I see people literally calling abilities useless, that I find myself using all the time and to great effect.
'' Git gud '' does apply. That's not to say that we couldn't do with more flashy flash or whatever.
But I just find myself scratching my head whenever I see someone say that they never ever use Aetherial Manipulation for instance.
Or Manawall and Manaward. They're more useful than you might think. You just need to actually learn the fights and some decent reaction time. Anticipate it, and let your healer put just that little bit more focus on other people. Who knows, that one extra heal that goes to another person. May just have saved the group from a wipe.
Basically. I played a BLM a lot in 2.0 and outside of AoE, this was it outside of thundercloud procs. It's as boring as you could get, spamming the very first fire spell you learned hoping you'd get a proc for Fire 3. The new rotation isn't really any better, making you work much harder to even get access to (and preventing loss of that access) to your next tier of elemental spells. That's crap.
Depends what you're aiming for. Regarding your distaste for BLM, I'd assume you wouldn't like the "get whatcha see" classes. So probably a no go to PLD, WAR, WHM, SMN, maybe MNK/DRG depending how you view "just another punch/kick" or "just another thrust/jump". So maybe AST, DRK, MCH, NIN and SCH might be more up your alley.
Edit: Eh scratch MCH, if you feel that BLM is boring for spell effects going by your other thread and posts, you wouldn't find any enjoyment in MCH's rather dull animations.
I like SMN the best. Plenty of things to do, lots of variety, and you feel godly destroying packs of mobs. I didn't care for DRG 3.0 rotation, got tired of NIN mudra lag, and don't have the patience for greased lightning. DRK's above 50 and I like that quite a bit, so if you already were leaning that way, it's a lot of fun.
The transition from Arcanists to Summoner isn't as epic as you think. It goes from being able to summon carbuncle to being able to summon a pokemon version of the Primals. The main spells are still poison DoTs which to this day I can't figure how Summoner ended up with them in their base class. Its not until level 60 that we move towards more of an Evoker where we invoke the power of Bahamut and gain Deathflare.
