KARMA IS A B!7$#
Unfortunately people like them never learn. They bottle themselves up in their little groups and ideas. They miss out on some of the fun things multilayer games like FF offer. Having top gear, completing all the quests and being level XX is only a fraction of what the games offer.
I have been playing online and before online was available. I have made life long friends, entered in to real life relationships and enjoyed the casual acquaintances along the way.
Not talking to people, helping them or simply being polite is not in my book.
Using the term eBay account is akin to other forms of discrimination and should be harshly dealt with.
Players who say such things should not use DF and should also be treated with contempt by those that do.
I did just that the other day. Myself and 2 friends were running temple of quarn and some random joined up and was like, "Are you all a bunch of baddies that cant f#c@ing play either, I just want my hunt log finished so I can be done with this stupid place so don't fuck it up!" I told him that we were going to clear the dungeon and he was like, "Im Fing leaving after the first boss". I laughed because im on mumble with the other 2 ppl in the group. We had the boss down to like 10% or so and we all just dropped group and insta-queued back into the place. Bad attitudes will get you no where. Also, whoevers idea it was to make the first boss the only objective in the dungeon is an idiot...
That is EPIC stuff there. 2 Thumbs Up.
You should have left at like 10% or 15%. 5% is too low if all the others are still up. Still a good move!
At 5%? Chances are they still completed it. While I like what you did, but I would of done it the second the fight engaged to secure their fail.
God, this reminds me of a discussion I had in shouts and tells in South Shroud over how to DPS. I had just kited Phaia as a level 50 bard for half the timer when people started showing up to dogpile and one of the people who showed kept /telling me to STOP MOVING, and yes, exactly like that. Now, having handled Phaia solo (thank god they showed up, though, I wasn't long to keep that up even at my level) and knowing how these fights can end when a squishy with all the aggro stops moving, I didn't stop moving. They healed me just fine even with my running around as I wasn't running very far. After all that, they proceeded to tell me how to be a proper DPS, how my -enmity move is the DPS' "I win" button. When I played XI and XIV 1.0 I learned how to manage my hate without having to rely on -enmity moves. It's not that hard.
I see a lot of this in Titan hard, even after explaining everything and doing 2 test runs, people still can't dodge for shit. Titan is only hard if you make it hard, i really wish people would pay attention or atleast watch vids on youtube to learn it.
You sir are my hero!
There are two groups of people in this game: Those that are terrific, and those that are retards, there is no in between.
The majority of the community falls into the first category.
Thus far, I have managed to only see those from the first group (I am quite lucky).
Sorry to hear that you encountered those from the second group that I mentioned
This same problem happened to me my first time trying to do Ifrit Hard(WHM50)
I don't know if it's just that this first batch of 50s are the hardest of the hardcore and won't accept -any- failure or if this is a glimpse at the future of the endgame PUGs in this game. (I've since joined a FC and they consoled me, because I literally wanted to cry... I know, big dumb baby, blah blah, I was holding out on a FC because several of my FF11 friends play and I was the first to 50 so we hadn't figured out if we were going to do our own FC or just find a good one) I was so berated and insulted for getting hit by his AoEs once or twice it was horrible. I was seriously hurt(I know I should just ignore the jerks but damn) I've yet to try doing it since(this was Saturday)
I never died to the AoEs, I healed myself back up, my MP was fine the whole time, but man they tore me apart. The Paladin accused me of not casting ANYTHING(we were constantly getting through Hellfire so obviously I was curing like I was supposed to.) The problem was we had all melee DPS and they were just dying too much. It's like how I remember WoWs heroics to be except that was like when an expansion was long in and people had all the best gear and just wanted it over. But a week?
I'd just like to remind people that there's another human being on the other side of that avatar so be kind? Try to be lenient on first timers, (nobody ever told me about the charge move, that's what was hitting me) and I understand that grinding it dozens of times to get your weapon sucks don't take it out on the other players... They did nothing to you.
Now I know there are genuinely bad players but most of us just need a little time and experience then we can handle the fights just fine! I don't claim to be the best WHM ever, but other than getting hit occasionally(I use Stoneskin so I'm okay for when it happens) I keep people alive fine and stuff...
Anyway, I got tired of being berated, waiting until the 4 nails dropped(we were using a blm to not wipe there) and I wasted the limit and quit. I felt like shit for doing it but they deserved much worse. :/
I loaded in garuda at a lvl 44 glad with 3k hp and the healer was trash talking me for being under geared... at 44 and having 3k hp is pretty decent but anyway the guy was pure crap for a healer and ended up bailing on us after wiping us 3 times.
I support OP's actions. You shouldn't be able to treat people rudely and get away with it.
But, I do have one thing I would have changed about OP's story...
I would have left a bit earlier, maybe around 15%. At 5%, they still could have managed to pull off a win. I would have wanted to make sure they COULDN'T win.
I wish I could say I was lying, but people like that get to me pretty badly. I don't group in MMOs anymore as much and prefer the solo route, I stay away from guilds, and stick to DPS roles as they are the easiest to please all due to the negativity that came into MMORPGs when WoW hit mainstream. : /
I don't like that people can get to me like that, but they do.
So basically, OP, good for you. :) I hope they wiped and cried and you drank their tears like Ambrosia.
Yesterday I attempted the Temple for the first time. (having skipped Brayflox) and right away the healer says "I can already tell this isn't going to go well, tanks still wearing lv 20 gear" Sure enough I was, more liek some 28, some 20, etc... so the healer takes off. I say "Man, what a jerk!" and then one of the dps guys says he was worried and I really should have lv 30 gear. Now i didn't know at the time that I skipped Brayflox, as the temple became available to me before I hit that part in the story. So I said let's try anyway. Guess what happened. Not only did I successfully tank the whole dang dungeon, but I also got key upgrades to 5 of my armor slots while I did it. Give your tanks a chance! (P.S: now I'm a pro at the temple and tanked brayflox in one try) im on a rollll . See you in game?
I agree with an earlier sentiment that there are two groups of players: Those that are awesome or have the potential to be awesome and those who suck and will always suck. My first ARR Garuda Hard victory came from a duty finder pickup group where we had to teach half the people the fight, and about nine wipes later, we won. Nobody was salty about the wipes at all, because we got closer each and every time.
I move on to Titan, in the exact same gear I just beast tanked Garuda in, and the first thing I hear is "lol ur gear sucks. quit trying to use duty finder for a group to carry you.". This, of course, coming from a tank in full darklight and Ifrit's sword whom then proceeded to get the group killed by tanking Titan in the middle of the arena and turning him towards the mages.
Gear doesn't make the player people. You'll find good, under-geared players and shitty beast-geared players.
its the legacy players and the no lifers, just wait untill normal people progress that far
Alright, dungeons are not my strong suit, I have not done many, not even in 1.0 so I really had nothing to go on.
Last night I got to do a Sastasha and Copperbell for the first time ever. In Sastasha I was MNK, going DD for the first time ever and the party got a headsup at the beginning about this. Nobody died but apparently I wasn't DDing correctly or something. I was called "horrible horrible pug" (and I was actually MNK, that's slightly different from PUG I'd say) and I got "lawl" comments and whatnot - I did tell them it was my first run as DD, so....after the run they just left without so much as "Congrats" or a "GG". Oh well. Copperbell was a much rougher run and I was CNJ but at least the party was nice about it being my first time in there, and had a more friendly and forgiving attitude about it. We ended up dying a few times (all 4 of us ^^; ) but we eventually did win and it ended on a good note.
I do not need to hear about how much more awesome you play or how horrible, horrible I am. I'm still learning. By all means, let me know how I can improve, or I can always do more research on my own. Don't cut people down.
When everyone works together and avoids acting like asses just because someone hasn't gotten a feel for the new system yet, DF can actually be a pleasant experience. We're ALL learning and playing the same new XIV, so just chill out already
If you were on the DF... there was prob another tank... and he probably voked.... and then the rest of the group probably still won... and they probably lol'd at you when they got the loot and credit and you didn't.
Not defending them... but what you did was really stupid.
You kept yourself from enjoying the rewards in order to obtain some degree of happiness by depriving those who mistreated from enjoying the same. I'm not sure that's much better than insulting others. You could have instead explained to them in the end, that maybe being a jerk to every one isn't the most intelligent thing to do and they would have been far more receptive and understanding.... and if your goal was to change behavior, you probably accomplished the opposite... as they probably are now either angry for someone like you for screwing them over or they think you are silly because you more likely just shot yourself in the foot.
I kinda want to reroll to a tank after I hit level 50 on my alt after I read that post.
Awesome.
I have had pretty good groups so far, and the bad ones fell into line when I told them "You will attack what I mark in the order i mark it, or you will tank it."
I usually help cover people's mistakes, but when they're a jackass to other players in the group, I let them sink on their own.
Also as the tank few things are more satisfying than watching that bad DPS who is raging and flaming quit and knowing he's the one with 15 min lockout and then a 1 hour queue while the rest of us can get a new dps in 15 seconds and move on with the dungeon.
I never drop on people; I'll wipe to 100% broke gear with ya if it comes to that and we all want to keep trying.
When i'm healer i never take crap like that. There was this MRD tank with paper armor @ longstop that kept insisting on gathering every possible mob around, even farther ones, and i kept spamming cures. At one point i had no chance but to spam Cure 2 and run out of MP on the trash mobs. He even insisted i pitched in on dmg which i answered it didn't fit my playstyle as a CON. I believe CONs should preserve their mp since they don't have any mp generating abilities (unless they cross-class which i wasn't doing since it was my first class) and should only use DD abilities when they feel safe they can, since it's not their priority - and i didn't feel i could.
I couldn't care less. As soon as i DF i get an invite. So i told him either he left or i did. He did leave and we DFed a PLD which did the job and i barely had to use any mp on cures due to that cure 1 additional cure 2 so i pitched in on dmg. You'll get really nasty people. Try to reason and if you can't, just leave. Even as DD. 20 mins are totally worth a bitter experience imho.
2 wrongs don't make a right.... but you know what I approve of this 100000%
I honestly wish you had taken a SS of those people so we all know who to avoid.. i can not stand grouping with people like that..
You should. I've been having a blast with it. I loved tanking in FFXI, and I'm having a blast with it here. I love learning the ins and outs of the class, and how best to control a situation with mob(s). I came from WoW playing DPS, I had fun, but it was monotonous. Hell I even enjoy tanking with the overzealous DPSer's. First rule I give to healers, if they DPS draws aggro, don't heal them. They have to stop so I can get aggro back, or pay the price.
Kinda want to create a Warrior, I liked how it played in beta.
That reminds me of one of the first dungeons I went into. Our tank was easily pissed off and would go on a rant calling the other party members retards and what not then blowing up on our healer for letting him die.
Shit happens but there's no reason to act that way. One of our party members told him to watch his mouth and I backed him up on this. MMO extremists are the worst.
I hope there was enough life left to wipe them. Did any of them message you after?
As a primary tank comming up through the leveling process, I mostly stick to dungeons/fates/class quests, I REALLY enjoy playing dungeons, and tanking in this game is piss easy compared to age of conan (what with the agro meter and MARKS!!!) I always start the group displaying my chat macros about watching your own agro level, following targets, and not attacking marked slept targets, and it is about 1 out of every 3 groups there is ONE asshat that intentionally goes against what I say. Usually because tanks are so overpowered in this game I can still work through it but sometimes depending on the douchebagery I just apologize to the other two players and leave. However looking at how often this occurs I can say the community is in a good spot from what I am used too.
1 person out of 3 runs is 1 out of 12 people bein a douce. Not bad at all for a MMO (guess the rest of the douchers are all AFK)
Way to stoop to their level OP. Well done.
that is pretty funny lol.
I don't understand the attitude that a lot of people have in this game. ARR is essentially new to all of us yet people still fall into that mentality that people are supposed to know all encounters right away. Whenever I use the duty finder for something, I ask right away "is this anyone's first time?" and if anybody says yes, then I usually say np and then proceed to explain the boss / primal / layout so they can know what to expect. If we wipe a few times, I generally don't mind. As long as they eventually understand the encounter, that is one more person in the community who can reliably use the duty finder and clear content.
If after several wipes and they do not pay attention or listen to advice, then that is when I get frustrated.
I am a tank too BTW and I support you. There is never any justified reason to demean someone because it is their first time doing something. People forget that we were all noobs at one point.
I finally got to the part where you fight Titan and I had heard from other FC members of how awful it is and how bad it is to that one in the DF. I decided to try it since I wanted to get past it. After waiting about 30mins as a healer, I get in and no one knew the fight but the tank. He just tells us dont get knock off. The blm was getting hit all the time and he was taking so much dmg. After 3 wipes and him yelling at the blm for it, I had figure out the all the moves in the fight. But the tank and blm left.
I then go again with a friend who just unlocked and no one knew the fight. So, I explained it all in detail and we killed Titan with no one dropping below ~85% health. I do not see what is so hard about the fight. It was extremely easy.
