I haven't been able to play my main in a week. It's a long weekend and now that I'm on I'm not going to log out until I go to bed on Monday. Sorry to all those trying to get on but I've waited long enough to play.
I can certainly understand that. I, on the other hand, got up at 6am to log on and had no idea i'd be hit with 1017. It's the weekend though and since it happened so early, i just realized that i won't be able to play all weekend. There's just no way the afker's will let it happen. So i'm just going to have to suck it up and literally hate everyone that is doing this. What a wonderful sentiment ya know? Our community being full of hatred and selfishness right from the start. Looking great isn't it?
Wow. I got lucky then. I was able to get on first try at 8am EST. Honestly, I usually log off. That's why it's been a week since I've been able to play. I got in last Saturday and then logged off to go to bed and then wasn't able to get back on since. I do actually feel bad staying logged in but I kinda feel it's my turn to play you know? I really hope that they get the new servers and tech up soon so we can all play without worrying about 1017. That way maybe I'll actually be able to play during the week cause the only free time I have is primetime...
Lol the people that are staying logged in are the ones on the other threads defending SE.
I openly laugh at anyone trying to guilt me into not playing so that he or she can play instead. I -learned- that not logging out is the only way to guarantee access to the game. Take your gripes to SE with the rest of us. I don't owe you a goddamn thing. Hypocrites.
Exactly, a game we all paid for, so basically what you're saying is it sucks that people being afk in the game is causing this problem for everyone, including you. But it's ok if you do it once your in, even though you know it's wrong and have been though the annoyance it causes. But now that you're in the game it's justified and you don't mind adding to the problem.
lol I find it interesting you're calling people hypocrites, yet you're so annoyed at the AFK'ers taking up so much space and causing this issue that you're not going to stay in and add to the issue. Sounds like your one as well.
SE is working on fixing the issue, AFK'er are the ones keeping the issue as bad as it is.
well, honestly your situation is understandable, sorry for the rage. I'm also sure there are others in your similar situation that haven't been able to log on all week. I have some this week so i should be happy for that i suppose, but after so many launches that issues, i'm just to a point now where i think we need to start holding these companies accountable for these launches no matter what. I also don't like that i feel the way i do towards others. I love a good community in game and this entire fiasco is making us hate each other. I just want it to be remedied and go away, quickly.
I'll log out when SE's servers aren't complete shit. Until then, I'm staying logged in. Seems like it was the right choice too, seeing as some of my friends that logged out can't even get back on because of the 10102 error (not related to world capacity).
I was actually thinking of not logging out last night... why? Because of SE's approach to the demand being higher than capacity... they just block log ins rather than queuing people up. So it's completely random luck if I'm able to make it past the random block, rather than a matter of waiting my turn.
Sure, I'm willing to take turns. But how could any player be willing to take random luck as the only confirmation that they'll get to play the game they paid for?
The fact that there's a game conference this weekend only further begs the question... how did they not have excess server capacity already worked in? You know you're going to need it at a game conference if they aren't playing the game off of a separate intranet rather than through the servers the paying players use. Based on login issues this morning, those game conference people are taking up capacity on the paying player's servers.
honestly, it feels like people are treating this issue like it's black-and-white, and it isn't at all. both parties, the people who log out and those who don't aren't really right or wrong. it's not wrong to stay logged in so that you can play a game you put money down for, nor is it especially 'right' to log out so another can play.
ultimately, this game isn't some huge huge charitable affair or anything, people want to play and due to SE are unable to. staying logged in so they can play is fine and acceptable since SE are allowing it to happen in the first place. likewise, people logging out might be doing a tiny small deed, but in the grand scheme of things it's not really as if it makes a colossal difference. you aren't going to fix the problem by yourselves, regardless of the boost to your ego you may get for thinking you're doing the community a big favor.
my advice: stop trying to attack other players, other people who just want to play the game and wait for SE to address the problem. be indifferent.
i'm not excusing myself for anything -- i don't stay logged in either. yet, i still don't blame those who do. the problem would remain regardless and until SE does something there's always going to be a group of people unable to play. there is no 'right' thing to do in this situation. it's great that you log out and think you're doing some good deed, but in the end it's irrelevant to the greater problem of server capacity being inadequate.
This thread shows so much humanity.. It really is like a zombie apocalypse, "I tried being nice, but other people were mean and now I shoot people in the face". :D
I am pretty much resigned to the fact that I will not be able to play at all during my entire 3-day weekend. I feel strongly that AFK players staying logged in are a huge part of the reason why this is so. It's impossible to say how much of the problem is because of them, but they certainly aren't helping matters. And all I keep hearing are excuses.
Yes, SE should have built a better infrastructure.
Yes, SE should have implemented an AFK-kick system.
But at the end of the day, the only thing you have control of is your own behavior and actions. If you choose to stay logged in when you're not actually there, and actively deprive another player of a place on the server that you aren't even using, you are making an extremely selfish decision that is not in the spirit of playing a multi-user, community focused game. If you can't at least admit that I don't know what else to tell you.
Pretty much. I knew it would be a pain in the ass to get on this weekend, but still I didn't feel right keeping my character logged in and causing other people in other time zones annoyance. Yes it's my fault for logging out, but still sometimes doing the right thing isn't the easy thing. At least people who wanted to play could get on because I logged.
Yes the issue will be fixed. Yes soon we will hopefully be able to get in without these issues without being in a queue and I'm sure the people staying logged in will have no qualms about what they did. But I believe in karma, and if you do bad to people it will come back on you sooner or later. So I choose to try and do the right things.
Well, that was the most insulting drivel I've yet to read on these forums. You are seriously trying to excuse your own selfishness by blaming people that are doing the right thing, logging out to let others play, of "boosting their own ego"? You must be a sociopath or there's something very wrong in you...
I'm not mad at anyone. At all. I've played every night. I just call it as I see it. There are server issues. Yes we all know that. There is nothing we the players can do about that. We DO have control over whether or not we choose to make the problems worse for everyone else.
When an individual has the knowledge that there are thousands of people trying to login. And they just leave themselves login and leave so the spot they are taking cannot be used by one of those logging in, it says "there are thousands of you and I don't give a shit about any one of you". That makes them a piece of shit in my mind. Think what you want and I will do the same.
If you think that makes me a moron. That's you opinion.
I play at night so...tell it to those guys who stay logged in during the day. Since whenever I log in at night the server is never full.
Everyone's experiences are different. If that makes me a "little scrub" I'm sorry my experience differs so greatly from yours. BTW I'm not mouthing off to anyone. Just giving my opinions. That's what the forums are for. Giving opinions of things that don't matter. Like this. Doesn't matter but imgladumadbro :P
Not true at all, i know damn well i have not and the people i play with have not, It is just having common courtesy. The people that stay logged in wasting a slot when they know they wont be playing for over an hour just remind me of the children who hide or break toys at a daycare, because even though they cant take them with them they wanna make sure no other kids can play with them if they wont be. *rolls eyes*
I agree, it's like someone saying 'I cheated on the test and you're stupid because you didn't'. Just because people are doing it, and people can justify it by saying 'well I was inconvenienced so others can be now' doesn't make it right.
It is more so that the people do the wrong thing don't wait it pointed out constantly so they want us to stop saying it because... god forbid, SE might actually see we are pissed, reset the servers and they will be kicked out and then back in the same position we are in at the moment. It seems like when people make a fuss SE does something, so people who can't log in should keep making a fuss until the AFK'er are kicked.
I've spent 3 hrs trying to log on on mutliple occasions. So yeah when I finally get in I stay logged on. Hell the game crashes enough to kick AFK players anyway. I crashed just this morning and will have to spend another 3 hrs at some point today getting back in. It's unfortunate but if SE wanted to stop this they would have patched in an auto kick by now.
I feel the pain of ps3 players who probably should not keep their consoles running 24/7 and for PC players who's rigs can't multitask with the game running in the background. Just understand those who stay logged on have gone thru the 1017 error as well.
There is no way to reason with those who never log out. And it's understandable and not surprising if you ever played any MMO game.
The thing which is surprises me is why there is no Auto AFK->Auto Log-out system like in any other MMO out there? Why can't Square-Enix implement it? It's not hard.
Easy Solution for this situation. Create more Worlds = Been Done >> Give limited time free character transfer >> limit the amount of accounts that can create characters on a server to the amount that can be logged in at one time that way for those who would have multiple chars on a server it wont effect you as only 1 of your chars will be logged in at a time.... or alternatively Id like to see FFXIV go on a mega server
Hiding behind the internet while calling someone you don't know the first thing about a "piece of shit" isn't giving your opinion. It's being an insignificant little scrub. You're glad I was offended? Of course you are. You're a spineless forum troll. If we found ourselves having this conversation face-to-face, your tone would be much different, wouldn't it. Again, enjoy internet anonymity, but remember that you're just a yappy, loud-mouthed punk behind a computer screen. ;) That's all the time I'm going to waste on you today.

"Resolving AFK Character Issues
From several users on some of our more congested Worlds, we have received requests for a feature which automatically logs out characters who are AFK for an extended period of time. We are actively looking into the implementation of such a feature, but have decided to first concentrate our efforts on increasing the number of Worlds and optimizing the Duty Finder servers."
They are doing both, and the game will be better off for it.
Whilst I've had only minor problems logging in, waiting the longest at 10 minutes, I still think the AFK kicker should be implemented.
This is a Pointless tread: basically you asking to another player to log out so you can log in sorry pal you're WRONG!!! Everyone here paid their money for this game to play whenever they want, any time 24/7 with no limits, this ain't about taking turns you died and pass the controller to another person go and complaint to SE cause is their fault not the other player who are excited about the game and wanna play all day long and yes I feel sorry for those having problem but I wont log out cause I want to play!!!!!!!
Aren't you hiding behind the internet while insulting people as well? Once again, seems very hypocritical to me, and that's the second statement that you have said that is such. But I will say, my tone wouldn't change face to face.
I am a very strong woman who speaks my mind and I say what I have to say, and I would still tell you that what is being done isn't the proper way to do it. I try to be polite and kind to people and I would try to say it in a respectful way, until you treated me with disrespect but all the same my mind is my mind on and off the 'net.
What in God's name are you blabbering about? I have never directed anything at you. Do you understand how forums work? If I'm quoting someone, I'm replying to THEM. No one is talking to you. In fact, I already ignored one comment where you completely failed at reading comprehension and attacked me for being against afkers, while quoting my post in SUPPORT of afkers. Go be a "strong woman who voices her opinions" all you want. Just learn to read first, sister.
People asking politely for others to logout are wrong? Of course we all want to play but your response makes me think of the 4 year old hogging the Legos all to himself that won't share because, damn it, he wants to play with them. As an adult, I would step in and show him that he needs to share. I doubt anyone here playing is still that young, so c'mon man, be a man and show some courtesy to your fellow players.
I do know how forums work, and it is an open platform for people to speak on whatever they like and respond to whatever they like. If I feel like responding, I will. And I wasn't quoting you for your support or non-support of AFK'ers. I was quoting you because you keep on putting people down for the exact same things you are doing. You put someone down for insulting you, yet you insult them as well. You call someone a hypocrite for supporting people logging out for AFK'ing, yet you had the issues too and now are part of the problem by staying logged in. That is why I was quoiting you and responding to your responses.
I just keep myself logged in through the day. If I have to go shopping or whatever, or eat, I'm not logging off. :P I will, however, log off once I go to sleep for the night. :P
Here are simple facts and Yoshi stated it as well.
If you don't log off, the log in servers get hammered. 2k afk people is a majority of the issue. 2k can log in, then off, another 1-2k in and it rotates like it is intended.
However, some people are simply weak in mind, and self absorbed. Eventually their negative actiosn will result in effects in their life. IT is humorous how that is always the case.
I love you kids that are new to game forums. NO ONE is hiding behind anything. If I'm hiding then you are hiding. Forums are setup like this so players don't harass each other in real life.
Since you are apparently new to all this. If you're going to get all butthurt over anything any stranger says forums may be too much for you. I could be a 13 year old girl or the president of the U.S. I'M A COMPLETE STRANGER and you're doing the internet tough guy thing, which is hilarious btw.
Tell you what. If you want to put your name and contact information on here for all to see I'll gladly give you a call. Hell if you're within 50 miles of me we can meet up.
Damn kids now-a-day coming on forums trying to start fights LOLOLOL. I can just imagine going somewhere to meet up with some zit faced kid "Oh hi...is this your mom, doesn't she know you've been trolling?" LOLOLOL I love it.
Last time I checked the players are paying for this time they are logged in.
You want so badly for this to be their fault. But it is squares fault. They are the ones not giving you what you paid for, but instead of complaining to them, you complain to the other players. This is how you define fanboy. I know people at work who leave cars in parking lots overnight because they won't be able to park on certain days.
This is 100% a logistics problem and not the problem of the people using the service. You don't blame internet congestion on too many people using the internet do you? No, you blame the ISP for not providing a service good enough to handle all these people. Get off your square high horse and realize where the problem lies. It isn't the players.
I'm never logging until they fix it or I get booted, I can't get on till prime time which means its like 4 hours spamming enter trying to get in.
If I could just hit enter and get in a queue and walk away I would log out.
Let me explain something to you guys, me being happy> you being happy... I'm sorry people think its unfair, but I think it's unfair I have to work all day while people just stay home and play all day.
