Thanks a lot, worked like a charm, I suppose that error implies some kind of corruption in the boot files, I was able to login and patch as soon as i replaced my directory.
Thanks again dude

That still did not work for me! Going on day 8 or so without being able to login .... I even called Tech support and they were unable to help me. I really wish someone from the game would post about how to go and fix this!

I was having this problem today with the latest patch, for the first time ever. I followed Taliesin's advice and I'm patched and good to go.
Thanks for the awesome tips, Taliesin.
I'm hoping that at least with my info on the table Square can get a solution cooked up so I don't have to do this every time. Good luck, Square.

Boot.zip once again updated for those who need it after todays update! (2013.10.17)
I don't think boot changed today
indeed, launcher did not update.
Same here tried many times and still not working. SE I demand money back...your stupid down time is way more than my playtime >.<
Same problem here. Got home from work, launcher patched and let me in. I was in my inn room in ul'dah and as soon as I left the room My client crashed. Now I am presented with this BS error.
This is typical S/E dev work, whenever they patch something, they screw the game up for a large number of players and leave us in the wind to find our own fix.
anyone else getting the system error -2146697211. http://frontier.ffxiv.com/arr_win/index.html error?
I'm having the same issue here: "Unable to complete version check".
Tried everything suggested and no progress.
I had to uninstall/reinstall to fix this problem
For those still having problems, not sure if this will work for everyone but it worked for me. Right click on the shortcut and select 'open file location' and directly boot it up from there. Should be the first one highlighted by default.
Can a Moderator or Customer Support please update us on this problem?
I am having the same problem ever since the Oct 14 update. I have never had a problem running the game up untill that update now i cant even get into the launcher to update and well you know the rest.....
I got this error today. Was playing fine last night, then servers went down for maintenance. Tried to launch client, and received the boot error. Please help :(
Working now. I ended up copying over the entire game's files from a working version on a different machine.
Please could a moderator or member from customer support update us again on what is happening since supposedly reporting this error. Even a 'they are still looking into this' reply would be better than nothing for days and days. I am tired of trying to contact SE via support (still waiting for a reply from not receiving a pre order code back when the game re-launched lol. )
I am also disappointed to see the lack of support across the forums, thank goodness a lot of players are taking time out of their day to try and help people.
Please allocate a team to keep us updated. It is a basic customer service component that would help your customers feel a little more valued.
Deleted. Double posting.
i have read this particular post front to back, side to side for the last 3 days since my own login problems... i get off at 4:30pm pst and i am going to call Square Enix support b/c this is unacceptable. If anyone else wants to, there phone is 858-790-7529 and they are located in California and working hours are 9am - 6pm PST mon-fri
Just randomly loged on today and it started working idk why maybe the devs finally figured it out??
never mind i guess it decided not to work after all hvaing the same problem again
It's not fair!!!!!! I have to shut down/start up my pc and then pray that I can play final fantasy. And now, I was in-game, having fun, and the game just froze! Froze! Like a screenshot. This has never happened to me before with this game. I am upset and square should fix their game. :(
Thanks Jinwa! Replacing the boot file seems to have worked. This is the second time I've had this problem, the first time I fixed it using this advice:
I'll be nice and just say that I hope that Square can resolve this problem soon. I can't say that my response will convey as much patience as it will the next time I have this problem.
I'm having the same issue as you guys
Completely cleaned the game off the computer. Cleaned the registry. Then tried to install the game and the launcher won't complete the version check.
Okay so go the fix took me 4 hours but hey. So the issue comes from another service running. I dealt with Square Enix to fix the issue. Go to your run box in your start menu on the pc. type msconfig. when there goto services. Then uncheck everybox but the microsoft services. This will fix your issue.
This worked for me thank you very much been trying to figure it out since oce 14 patch!
I just had this issue and removed the "fileinfo.fiin" from the /boot folder then it booted up just fine for me. Had planned to remove one at a time til it worked but seems I guessed right.
"Unable to complete version check.[30605][20448][10009][10019]"
Reboot, re install, launching from inside the file location didn't work either. any other players figure out how to fix this yet?
SE certainly isn't helping right now. ( been on the phone for over an hour waiting for someone to answer.)
So far, if I click on the launcher right away on start up or click on it right after I logout of the game, to keep the launcher open, then I can sign in and play with no problems. Just wanted to add this in case this helps someone.
My solution to this problem (which occurred to me for the first time after receiving the initial launcher startup error I reported in another thread) is the same as my solution to the other: keep trying. I have been running as administrator for the past couple of days with no issues, but when I was having trouble I would simply keep trying to launch the game as administrator and would eventually get through. After a couple dozen attempts I finally got a completed version check and got into the game with no problems thereafter.
Nice to know there is a fix for PC... I'm playing on PS3 though... anyone one know any fixes for PS3?
I suffered from this issue on ps3 last month. Did all the suggested actions, including reinstall.
The problem magically went away after play station network maintenance.
Now we have a spike in version check errors and look, psn maintenance scheduled this week. Imagine that.
I started having this same problem after the last update. If I keep reopening it enough times I eventually get to the proper launcher page, but it is damned annoying.
Okay this is just been really stupid In have been waiting to play this game for weeks now and I still can't play I payed for this game of the 25th of last mouth and I still can't play this game I keep on getting the same error Unable to complete version check. [30410][30607][20457][409] and I have done everyhting I could to fix it but nothing but yesterday it work I was playing he game for like a hour or 2 went to bed for a little wake up turn on my computer and and than this 'Unable to complete version check. [30410][30607][20457][409]" I'm like WTF!! so idk what they're doing but they need to fix this man if not then I'm just going to give up on this game forever been playing this to close beta and was hoping to play this game but if they wont fix this little beg than I'm just going to give up on this game
im getting ( A system error has occured:-2146697221 http:/frontier.ffxiv.com/arr_win/index.html?rc_lang=en-us )
This error is actually a nightmare. I was getting this error a couple weeks ago and tried a few different things:
1.) Ran everything as admin
2.) Deleted the Boot Folder and dropped in known good files
3.) Dropped UAC as low as it goes
4.) Uninstalled/Reinstalled
5.) Repaired Registry
6.) Set Registry to ignore any kind of admin check
7.) Set the files attributes to read only, Read/Write, back to Read only
None of these changes actually worked. Now, this is where I start going off the map and start doing really STUPID stuff out of frustration:
I thought that it could be a Windows 8.1 bug (which does have MASSIVE permissions bugs) so I attempt to roll back to win 7. Windows 8 doesn't like people doing this and actually tries to make it so convoluted people give up.
After about an hour of messing with getting the boot disc to actually load up, I can't get the image to run as I don't have the CD/DVD drivers (though it's reading the image from the ODD). Tried basically every kind of basic driver chipset to no avail.
It must be my BIOS.
Long story short (about 70 solid man hours ripping the computer apart, trying different fixes, loading different images, and CMOS Resets) I have a motherboard on back order (hello bad flash) and the only way I got FFXIV to work was to buy a new rig.
Hooray Version Check Error!
It's not Square's fault I bricked my machine and I take full responsibility for my own hastiness. Hindsight being 20/20 it's pretty damn funny.
So, if you're messing with the version check error and the thought "It must be my BIOS" comes into your mind in anyway shape or form, Stop. Please for the love of all that's good and holy don't do what I did.
This has been a PSA brought to you by "don't let version check errors lead you down the road to a bad BIOS flash".
