I don't want FFXI-2, or a time sink, I'm asking for basic UI features or text commands that its player base found convenient and hoped would show up in the next game. Auto-attack I think is better than spamming one or two, or whichever button it is people spam, but they shouldn't half ass auto attack, that would ruin the game harder, they need to seriously rework stamina before just slapping auto attack in there. Just because you don't like auto-attack doesn't mean everyone doesn't, I am a mage so I don't really see how its useful for me, but I'm sure there might be a dd or tank who wants it.

The UI is a joke, but FFXI's was just as awful, and as has been said a million times, they are already working on a new UI anyway.

And if people think auto-attack should be implemented just because it will be "useful" then they need to reassess their priorities. A combat system should be designed toward fun, not convenience and usefulness. TERA, GW2, Blade & Soul are all leading the field in active-combat and SE has decided, at the behest of every FFXI fan that can't get over the past and move on, to regress back into combat mechanics from 2001.

Maybe if thats the way you feel then this won't be the game for you. Because a lot of concern about spamming actions is that we can't talk to our party members while doing it. As a RDM in XI i never used auto attack because it wasn't convenient no mage did except blu. What's fun for you may not be fun for the majority of FFXI fans, and this game was made for FFXI fans first, because they sat through 8 years of a game made by the same company. If you like action based games go play TERA, GW2, Blade & Soul, or w/e (btw blade and soul looks kinda good I won't hate, I just don't like art design, I'm not opposed to a action based game, i just don't think that's the only battle design that offers strategy proven by FFXI and how that game has more strategy than most mmos out to this day)

The 10,000 that want to chat up miqotes while they fight instead of actually fight are the minority in the MMO community at large.

People want an engaging combat system that reflects... you know... actual combat.

I liked chatting while fighting in XI, everyone did it. We'd all end up asking each other to the party in auto translate one person would say "oh crap" in the party chat, and we'd all figure out we were american's and we'd laugh about it a little bit, then start chatting about stuff in general. If you're in a linkshell with your friends you do chat while fighting in XIV it just now happens over vent, if FFXIV had come standard with some kind of voice chat system I could see a whole action based combat being in this game, but it didn't, they expected you to type to people to at least convey basic things to them while partying, and it was awkward to try and type to people with this current system.

edit: on a side note games that are action based lets say like DCUO are really limited in the amount of abilities you can equip at one time, even more so than FFXIV, if they had kept the amount of actions we could equip low (alpha closed beta action costs), that's more on par with action based games.

To get back on the topic of this particular thread ...

Any assumption that Hamlet Defense (as envisioned by the original team) would be mediocre is premature at best, and pre-judgmental in most cases. Just as it would be if I declare these new settlement battles inferior to the original Hamlet Defense.

We simply will never know. All we can do is wait patiently, and when this content is released, give feedback and guide the Development Team to make adjustments as required.

True strike. I didn't like the idea of them being like besieged before, but it could of been an awesome idea. I think they are re-imagining it just due to the fact that some people complained about it being like besieged.

The only reason they adding auto attack is not because it fail it's because all you guys are crying over it omg we need auto attack blah blah blah.

FFXIV- no Auto attack "you spam attack" and you do some ws,spell and make sure you do some auto attack for TP but do some ws and other stuff so you wont die.

FFXIV- With auto attack "you wait for your auto attack to get enough TP you do ws all day long "go afk" get a drink come back oh look it's dead next? even if they do make auto attack faster they said you wont win a mob with just auto attack so you have to do ws ok i like that but still ppl would just go afk and have many issue,.

there con and pro about auto attack, but ya you should not even be talking while fighting. when doing endgame in FFXI did you talk? na you had the PLD do macros showing the mob you attacking and macros to do skillchain there was zero talking the only time you talk is when you stop and plan something new. but you know whatever add the auto attack i don't mind it as long as the battle are fun and not spam spam spam spam the same moves again cuz there better. or just sit there and wait for auto attack to get some tp all day.

But i guess if most of the players want auto attack i'll deal with it.

FFXI2.0 is not a bad idea and what i mean by that is

Have everything FFXI had, garrison,BCNM,KSNM,ZNM,ISNM,NM,MMM,Campaign Battles,Besieged.

Have that all redone to a way it fit in the world of FFXIV if they had that in release FFXIV would not fail. Also make linkshell how it work in FFXI and made party flags. Fishing would have been way more fun in ffxiv if they added the fight system in ffxi where you have to point left,center,right to get a fish.

Back on topic: besieged would have been the best idea i don't know why you guys hate it. What more fun then helping a city out being attack by beastman? if anything that would give more live to the pointless small city outside the towns we live in.

My only qualm with a besieged system is the server capacity and lag issues. In FFXI besieged lagged out console users (pretend ps2 doesn't exist I'm only talking about 360, which is almost a next gen console LOL) I just fear they may not balance a besieged type system's server loads by making it instanced, and instead make it open world which would lag us down. Now that the move is towards instance content, I'm for a instanced besieged, where you are in the area where a besieged normally happens, but if you are there when it starts you enter an instance, "duty calls" or w/e

besieged was a instance in a area all the npc where gone and you fight mobs that come in you not even allow to leave outside while in besieged. The Lag issue was only xbox 360 d/c all the time i had no issue while playing on pc or ps2. FFXIV does not have to like ffxi was they can make the system better with less lag issue.

i for one don't want everything in the game to be instance then i'll i be doing is sitting in city waiting for something to start go to "dungeon finder" teleport in oh look am doing it now i leave back to city and am crafting. You see zero ppl out side partying or doing anything in the maps it be a pointless waste of memory to even have a outside beside for craft to go to the outpost and turn in there leves. I just hope SE learn from ffxi due to them adding so much areas was left to zero ppl then they made FOV and the areas was pack onces again if they do stuff like that then areas would still see ppl. If not you just have pointless maps doing noting but for a few quest here and there and for mats.

Sorry to say but xbox 360 is not even such a great system i'm thankful ffxiv is not releasing to xbox. I'm sure xbox next gen would have ffxiv or when M$ stop being a little b??? and fix there xbox live TOS.

Anyways ffxiv not going to be a good game if they don't have lot's of tv ads and real time cards for the game. even F2p kids game have them even RS and facebook games. I don't know why SE can't come up with there own time cards and token for your phone like really even rift now have app for token so your account can't be hack that easy.

One thing SE sucks is marking there online game kingdom heart FF13 all over tv but ffxi and ffxiv? ya no where to be found in USA. if they can just come up with more TV ads and time card. maybe we have more then 500k players on ffxiv if not then it just be like FFXI not a lot of players playing it. If they don't fix there pc issue also and allow lower cards to play then this game wont even have much players do to the fact no one have 500-1k to build a new pc. or waste 100$ for a video card to play a mmo.

I'm not disagreeing w/ you zen, I know beseiged was instance, I'm just thinking about ps3 when it comes out since on the bottom of this forum the psn, sony and ps3 logo are still shown. Will consoles receive overwhelming lag and get lagged out, this should be a concern for them. I just didn't want them to make it open world since they have a tendency to put things we want instanced as open world and vice versa.

PS3 wont have lag issue if SE make there system right, i think if anything SE should fix the problem with FFXIV when you log in you lag for few mins then everything load right. If not then we going to have issue i still don't understand why SE can't fix the smallest issue we been having.

I hope SE does everything right but i think if they do ps3 would be fine. PS2 never lag in FFXI matter how much players was around it was better then pc for beseiged. now if you had a good pc then you wont have issue.
