"I'll complain about SE's logic then complain about losing viewers from my personal stream for knowingly doing something that will lose me viewers."

Who cares about streaming the game, just enjoy it during early access!
The reasons are many, maybe because the game doesn't "officially" launch until the 27th, and this is squares hope to get people playing the game sooner rather then later, you bought the game remember, the early access is a bonus to those that qualify, it isn't a right, Square could take the EA away if they wanted too, as the game doesn't officially start until 27th.
So if they say "Can you please not post or stream any of our content until 27th" it is within their right.
a little off topic... Will the level cap still be in place for Early Access?
If streaming is so important to you then go ahead but don't come back here crying when they ban you. It's their game, their service and their rules. I find it very silly that people can't wait 3 days anyway. If you agree to the license then you have to abide by it and if you don't agree they don't allow you to play. It's fair enough for them to ban you if you break their terms and would happen with anything. Like I said nobody here is stopping you, however, you have nobody but yourself to blame when you get yourself banned. I also think it's stupid advertising the fact that you're planning to stream regardless of consequence on their official forum. That really made me chuckle!
Open beta/early access is usually a great form of advertising. First couple days of a game's release generates incredible amounts of hype on TwitchTV and can help sales tremendously. I don't understand why SE is doing this. x_x
This is going to be amazing!!
If the documentation that was linked earlier in the thread is same as what we agree to come the 24th, then there's nothing in it about video/picture/broadcast/stream/streaming mentioned in it.
CM rep said its NOT ALLOWED why is this topic still being discussed? , stream or don't , at the end of the day you are risking getting your channel removed from listings so you will be streaming to basically nobody and risk getting youre account banned. just don't do it until the 27th
You didn't purchase Early Access...it was a bonus for pre-ordering, not part of the game's cost. The product itself is only truly 'active' 8/27/13. That said, I can understand why SE is asking for people to wait until the 27th to post videos....they want to be able to control what gameplay videos are out until launch...and as the game developer they have that right. Also, letting people stream, kinda lessens the exclusiveness of EA, because as of now, only those with EA can actually see/play it. Everyone else will have to wait.
As to 'what time can we post' on the 27th...whatever time a non-EA player can log in for the first time, will be considered the official launch time of ARR, and that's when you can post videos. (Launch time will be announced later.)
Still can`t understand this decision. They would get sooo much more players by letting popular streamers, stream this game.
Hey guys, just wanted to say why not just enjoy the game and not worry about the whole NDA thing. The game comes out next Tuesday, that's like 4 days! I don't see why this is a big deal at the moment. Yes, it blows that we can't livestream this awesome game "YET!" but just have to be patient for a few more days then go crazy. I'm a livestreamer as well, and I did the whole screenshot thing but I was freaking out the whole time and having to check my channel every 5mins hoping I wasn't banned lol. But after watching, people's channel getting taken down and the whole DMCA ban... I didn't do it for Phase 4 and not going to stream on Early access. 4 more days guys, don't risk your account being banned... it's really not worth it to only gain viewers waiting for you to get banned.
It sounds to me like Square is trying to pull the wool over some customers eyes with launch.
They are afraid of something if NDA hasn't been lifted by now. If the game had the mighty praise that people think it does, then Square would have lifted the video NDA long ago.
That's not true. There are quite a bit of genuine gamers who are popular and stream. They don't all use exploits and cheat. I'm not even a big fan of watching other people play games, but still I can recognize baseless slanderous comments when I see them.
To the point, the NDA is in place because despite Yoshi's overly optimistic post, they aren't quite sure they have the 3102 and 90000 problem corrected yet. Imagine mass streamers showing that?
Also, the unresponsiveness is still not gone. It's slightly better than before... but still not gone.
When you have a name like Final Fantasy, people will buy your game just off of name (And trailers) alone.
Despite the Ultra White Knightery, I have to believe there are people who wouldn't purchase the game at launch if we had been allowed to stream even in P4.
So the smart play for SE is "Get that initial payment first and hope the players feel obligated to stick around for a month"
NDA is not just a quality check, they also have agreements with partnering assets like voice acting groups and what not. If showing the game was such a problem we wouldn't even be allowed to show screen shots, people can still see the game in one way.
I dont know why people cant just wait an extra 3 days.... I've been streaming FFXIV content for a long time and yea I can't wait to finally be able to share that again with other people, but showing off my screen shots does not hurt me the least.
Why are you all bitching like highschool girls? Seriously....
If you want to stream, stream it. It'll be your problem when your account gets closed or some kind of punitive warning is issued.
To top that off: You guys do realize that you can set stream channels to private so SE cannot actually tell if you are streaming or not... right? Use your brains people. FFS.
Second: Uploading video is the only way you'll really get pickled about all this to begin with. Take your videos, but save them and upload them AFTER they drop their NDA.
Now I'm not saying I agree with this NDA by any means... I think it's utter garbage to tell you the truth... but it's in place. If you violate it, cool story... I've seen NDA's violated from game companies before and nothing major has really happened. Maybe an account closure or two, but that's roughly it. If you really want to go about streaming, do it the smart way and lock your channel and give only a select few people who you know and trust (that's a hard word to use at this point) the password so they can view. It's rather basic to be honest.
NOTE: I am not encouraging you to break the rules... I am simply saying if you're going to... be smart about it.
Other than that... this thread should be locked already.
FINAL FANTASY® XIV Software License Agreement
5.5 Entire Agreement. This License Agreement, together with the User Agreement, the Square Enix ID Agreement, the Privacy Policy, and any other terms of use relevant to your use of the Licensed Software, constitutes the entire understanding and agreement between the parties with respect to your use of the Licensed Software and supersedes any and all prior or contemporaneous oral or written communications with respect to the subject matter hereof, all of which are merged herein....
Had to shorten for post length so look it over yourself if you want to see it all.
That part I have underlined means you have legally also agreed to their Material Usage License Agreement which does state that you can not show in-game video, sound or vocal tracks. It is a nice bit of legalese but not understanding is not the same as not agreeing to it.
I take it since the Early Access period has been extended
http://i.imgur.com/pKw2eCZ.gif
The NDA has also been extended to this time?
Keeping the NDA intact for so long is just bad publicity for the game. It only makes people wonder what SE has to hide or why it lacks confidence. The free publicity offered by streamers could help FFXIV immensely, but SE is too afraid of giving players a little more control. They want to paint the game in this pretty light where everything is perfect. However, viewers would be able to see the game for what it is, and make a more informed decision about their purchase. There are both good and bad qualities to the game, but I think that overall FFXIV would gain more players if the NDA weren't in place for so long.
So... what about Europe? They have been allowed to post videos since phase 3 beta. Does this just apply to North America? How is that honestly a fair shake deal?
In truth I guess I can understand their point, do I Agree with it? No, not in the least, look at it this way.
1) At launch the game was basically a flop. Don't you want to show people how you improved? The fact it is hiding does show to some people that Perhaps it has NOT improved, granted we know it has, but with the NDA can't really counter it much.
2) Let's face it, with point 1, I would be letting everyone stream to show it was not a flop, that it was a contender...
3) For a lot of streamers they have one of two choices.. a] Because we can't stream it means those that have looked forward to the Early Access, means some will have to skip out on it, or well b] Skipping streaming, which some people do for a living, or do for charities... just to play the game.
In truth, they have nothing but to gain, especially from all the bad problems of the past.
This was actually posted yesterday, and it seems they already mentioned that it will not be lifted. Thank Reinheart for the translation. http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...=1#post1030534
Here you go. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BfCmSWcBK8w
Kim had permission.
NDA Still in effect is extremely bad form, Streamer's help promote the games and actually bring in more sales, Plus to someone who said Viewers were obnoxious bad people you are extremely wrong you can meet some of the nicest people on streams.
Greetings!
We appreciate those of you that are seeking to operate within our Terms of Service as we launch FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn. As the Original Poster's question has been answered, this thread will now be closed.
Thank you and have a nice day,
