You never know with SE. Best to not expect them to come.

If you get into the habit of thinking that the devs are keeping things secret for teasers and surprises, you have a series of disappointments ahead of you. They always lead with their biggest gun. Always have. Always will.
1.17 will be the easter event, essentially. They lead with their biggest gun, and if that's the only big gun they talk about, that's the only gun that'll be used.
Why are they quiet about companies?
Because they probably don't even have their design hammered out yet, let alone have them almost ready for release. The reason you don't know what companies even are is because they don't either.
They should seriously consider not doing the easter egg sideshow and instead focus on THE ACTUAL GAME.
Jesus....
They didn't say companies were ready. They used words with escape hatches in them to buy more time. The anticipation of companies has bought them a month of players tolerating dead space. When companies don't come out this month to a significant degree, they know defenders will argue that SE never said they were ready for them, and the whole thing will blow over.
It's a pump fake, and it worked. You stopped tackling.
They know they can probably get away with stalling another month of real content with an Easter event. So that's what they did.
Don't expect companies this month.
Except for the part about it not being a pump fake. Anyone expecting companies next update is seriously setting themselves up for the fall, as they just said they're giving some new info, and worded it in a terrible way.
I don't expect companies this month, but that doesn't negate the fact that Yoshi himself said in one of his letters from the producer, that companies would be ready to roll out by March but they wouldn't have much to do in them. (I thinks it's the second or third letter I don't remember)
Thats not what yOshi said about companies. In the second to last letter he said they were almoat rdy and will be released as soons as the battle changes were completed. Re read the last few letters
Yeah i'll admit that. I left XI after the second abyssea expansion since I thought i'd spend most of my time in XIV.
Well its not like the whole patch is going to be centered around one event. Also i'm sure they have multiple sets working on different aspects of the game.
correction... 10 days, almost 11 and still nothing >.>
You know that the people who work on the battle fixes aren't the people who work on instanced dungeons aren't the people who work on battle animations aren't the people who work on event quests aren't the people who work on enemy designs etc...
One does not negate the other as the team as a whole is split up into many groups.
They give us 2 patches a month instead of one patch every 4 months and now nobody can sit still. Don't you think they would tell us what is in it if they knew? I think it's all a work in progress and even they are not 100% sure what will come out before their Easter event deadline. Asking a thousand questions isn't going to get you any more information. If you press Yoshi-P you're just going to be disappointed. I say just sit tight and see what happens. Or go play something else for a while!!
i agree, but i believe alot of that frustration is coming from not alot of communication of what his staff is working on. with the types of patches that have came out recently people are worried, justifiably so, that they are doing more stuff people do not care about. how many people complained we needed aggro icons or ! over a npc? we understand they have groups working on multiple projects, but updates would be nice.
i would like to know hey we are working on companies and have this or that done and are in this stage with an expected release of blah blah. even if the next update came out and said they fell behind schedule we would at least be informed. a weekly progress update would be nice even if it was just an every friday evening at the end of his shift. i'm sorry but the letters yohsi has been putting out uses alot of we have discussed this or eventually that, but gives us no clue of the stuff actualy being worked on.
i guess the main thing is there was better communication people would have a picture of what's going on and it would alleviate alot of the worries.
He did say he wanted to rebuild trust and not make any more broken promises. In a way, he has done that because you all trust him to say what he's working on. Maybe it's a cultural thing because he clearly doesn't seem to be satisfied with the level of trust out there.
hope they announce any info tomorrow.
So they released the 1.17 patch notes;
Betelgeuzah enjoy your virtual hat =/Quote:

[dev1038] The implementation of new equipment and items
[dev1039] The reduction of randomness affecting the approach phase in gathering
[dev1040] Adjustments and additions to active icons
Waiting for 1.17a first, thank you =/
You could eat half now half later maybe? I dunno, think I might stock up on psp+ps3 games and see you all in a few months ._.;
[dev1003] is Public Company Quests, so Betelgeuzah may not be completely wrong.
Company quests come before Companies.. ok!
Or the Company is the remaining 30% for 1.17a... idk bro.
Are we sure Grand Companies are all about new quests only? I don't think so. Well, really hope it isn't so.. :/
Btw, very good patch.
I want to believe 1.17 will be some significant new content (i.e. companies) but it seems strange that they'd just use the tag and "new sidequests" rather than announcing companies specifically. The rest of the changes sound preeeeeeetty trivial so in my "bleh, more of this crap?" response I might have overlooked the significance of the companies tag =/
If they want to keep the 3-4 month schedule, there's gonna be a hefty amount of stuff in the 1.18.
Or simply their schedule won't hold, which is also possible. Environment collision detection adjustments are pretty huge (although do not have as much of an impact for the work it takes to finish).
Could someone break this down for me?
[dev1039] The reduction of randomness affecting the approach phase in gathering
What is the approach phase?
Well I had heard that the environmental collision takes a lot of work to implement but yeah it is kind of trivial in the impact it has. It's definitely something I could have overlooked for a while in favour of more interesting things. Also what was the date they gave for the second update again? (may or may not be planning how many games I need to keep me busy from now until then :p)
After Easter, I guess.
I heard they nerfed gathering. I did not gather since 1.17 so I cant tell but many friends in my LS told me about this thing. Sad to see that some things are getting worse with time. I think gathering was fine before 1.17.
i think it might be gathering fatigue, its like regular fatigue but once you've gathered a certain amount of items, the amount of items you can gather decreases to the point where you wont be able to gather anything until fatigue resets. not sure if this was in the game at launch though
