There was nothing to read in my case anyways, I'm aware of how the online FF games are and I'm very careful what I pick, I'm not new here. I had no choice tyvm.
Legacy players, whining about every minor thing.
Also, when you shifted classes on the character creation screen... didn't the entire left hand side change to the nation where that class would originate from?
How on Earth could anyone have missed that?
This starting city BS effected a lot of people. It's easy to miss that info if you're not reading everything SE posts about everything. A lot of us didn't even play beta till phase 4. We updated and saw we could import and change our characters already, and were like "Oh cool, let's do that now" without knowing we needed to change our character's class.
This can be easily fixed if they give us the option to start the main quest over in another city. Just like in FFXI, where all you had to do was pay gil and you were a new citizen of the city you want, main quest reset to rank 1.
The smartest way to go would be to make it so once you'd played through a city's main quest up till the point the stories converge, you could reset in another city, starting with their opening cutscene. You could even play through all of them that way if you felt like it.
That way people that wound up in a starting city they don't like can rest easy knowing they can fix it later.
I made my character in just a few minutes.
We all get the chance to change our appearance after 30 days of subbing so I knew I could fine tune things then.
Everyone has had a long time to select a starting cite as we all knew they were linked to class.
It was mentioned loads of times on the beta forums and anyone in beta should have known just from playing each phase.
I don't get the big deal. Your starting city hardly matters anyway.
My only issue is that I never changed my lip color, however look at me now......red lips. Embarrassing and annoying, but I can wait for my vial.
Hello,
I also made a stupid mistake when creating my character: Nushidorei Lunatica on Ragnarok, as I couldn't import appearance data; I ended up making a few stupid choices which were originally ironed out when I was spam creating characters over and over in the benchmark in order to make my character look perfect to my standards.
My friend, Shinjiro Lunatico also made two mistakes while creating her character; she made her character as small in height as possible as well as making a typo with the surname, as you can see; our surnames are slightly different due to a typo!
Sad that this happened on our 50's, it wouldn't be bad on some low level characters so we could reroll...
It determines the base-line story cutscenes you see. It mattered to me so I chose ACN. If it wasn't available I would have chosen MRD. Starting in Limsa is what I wanted to do since I wanted to see Limsa story cutscenes at the start.
Are they all generally pretty samey for the most part? Yes, but people still have preferences.
I also had this happen to me, unfortunately. Hope there will be an update on how they will implement this.
I had a menu error as well, when I went to chose my class I was prompted with the proceed menu, It did not state I could change my character options, and the options on the right side of the screen were blacked out, I didn't even think I could change my char until the release date anyway, that's what Square originally stated
Getting a chance to redo it would really make me a happy cat.
My benchmark data didn't load either, so I did try to make my character again. Got the wrong color eyes , skin and hair, each just a shade off. I didn't see any thread about a error, I'm not always on the forums. I just thought maybe I can hold out till the barber shop comes around. I was effected by the error, no I did not post about it. I hope they let all players redo appearance and name as some may have not posted about the problem they had, some of us thought the beta forums where done with feedback.
I wasn't able to load data from the benchmark either, and wound up making a couple mistakes on my legacy character's appearance. I'd very much appreciate the chance to recustomize and select a new name.
i would like to change my name...regret it with a passion
I see a reply on the first page that was extremely cross and just plain mean. There's no need to scald people for making mistakes, because as we're all human, you may find yourself in their shoes on another matter and I'm sure as hell you won't appreciate people rubbing salt in YOUR wounds.
For shame, there's no need for that.
Personally I had no problems figuring out how to change class/city. I WAS thrown for a loop when the character design wouldn't load my benchmark creation. Fortunately I'd been working on my Lalafell's design for majority of the last 3 weeks so I remembered most of the settings but it still doesn't look QUITE right D:
I for one sympathize with those who missed the relatively minor detail about being aware of what class/city your 1.0 char was set for when we got the chance to redo them.
I knew from Phase 3 and 4 that I'd have to go MRD to start in LL and get those first story quests so I made sure to change it... but I DID think it was weird when I noticed I had been preset for ARC/Gridania, cause I only played that class out of boredom, and really only during the lead up to final save back in November. If I hadn't hardwired my head to choose MRD even though I dislike the class, I likely would have missed it too and been forced to put up with Yda instead of Y'shtola. NOPE.
Once Lominsan, ALWAYS Lominsan. Till Sea Swallows All.
I didn't even get an option to customize myself. I kept crashing at the stage where I was supposed to do that, and then the next time I logged on and did not crash, rather than give me the option to customize, it just went straight to the city & intro o.o. Loading up what appeared to be my 1.0 data.
Not a giant big deal, but would like to tweak my hair and voice a bit :(
It would be nice an official answer from the Rep. about this issue, haven't we drawn enough attention?
This is good to hear as my game crashed when I was entering my Characters new nameand when I logged back in it had saved and reverted to my 1.0 name. And I would like to still change the name :) Thankfully my appearance data changed to what I want before crash.
I'd like an official answer about our issues, not that one, that is not our case.
The only thing I want to change my is deity. :/
I don't see why we can't ask for individual rollbacks if we made a mistake. Our 1.0 back-ups still exist. If we're rolled back, any progress we made is erased, and we get a do-over with full knowledge of what we did wrong so we won't repeat any mistakes. And who does it hurt? Absolutely no one. If you're not effected by this issue, honestly, why do you care if we get our rollback or not? It has no effect on anyone but us, and greatly enhances our enjoyment of this game.
Seriously, you guys want everyone to have fun and love this game, don't you? Well for some of us, starting in the wrong city is a HUGE bummer. It's really taken a lot of the wind out of my sails, and I might even hold off on playing till we get an official answer. I REALLY want to experience ARR from the perspective of a an Ul'dah character, just as I was in 1.0. But because of one easy-to-make mistake (look how many people have done the same thing), I get to play with a little rain cloud of bummerdom hovering over me.
I was unable to use my benchmark premake. Do I have to ask them directly or do they just know who was affected?
Bunp. Reps can we please get this forwarded to the devs? Still no official word on this, many 1.0 players effected (and I'm sure many more will make the same mistakes). Even for just name/appearance change for those effected by errors, they haven't elaborated on how those players will get access to that opportunity.
Not sweating it much, but I also didn't change my name when I wanted to. Next thing I knew my character was created, I thought it would give me the opportunity towards the end of the creation.
I like that they are allowing people to remake their characters that were affected by bugs and not being able to load their data. I would just like to know how one is to know they are on the list to get another shot at it.
Response I just got after sending a support email:
"Hello and thank you for contacting the GM team. We understand you were unable to change your character's appearance and apologize for any inconvenience this has caused you. While we cannot guarantee that your character's appearance can be reset, we have taken the information you submitted and escalated it to the appropriate parties.
Thank you for your patience and best wishes to you,
FINAL FANTASY XIV GM Team"
Eh... I was pretty specific about wanting a full reset to change my class/starting city, as well. So this was probably an auto-response. But it's cool they responded and escalated it. Edit: Oh, also, this was a million times faster than getting any sort of support in FFXI. So also cool.
I was trying to find a way to roll back my char as well. i too accidently picked the wrong starting city and it's one of those things thats going to be in the back of my head for the rest of my time in FFXIV ARR unless it's fixed. i even called SE and talked to someone about rolling back my char. at the time he said it wasn't possible
But it HAS to be. they definitely have the capability to roll back your char's data. they did it in FFXI all the time when ever someone was hacked and lost items. i seriously h ope if enough people speak up they'll do something about this
Ya but there is a huge difference between beeing hacked and making a mistake. And if they start to rollback single chars they won't be doing anything else the next few days....
And everybody that has ever worked with DBs knows that rollbacks are the least thing you want to do and avoid them whenever possible. Especially if you have to mess around with a huge DB.
I didn't get any kind of prompt or anything to recreate my character when logging in for early access. =/
