Also PUGS now have 3 dots now because they pull from MRD and they can obtain fracture.

Right now I have to lean toward bard being the best dps. Based only on what I know currently, they have some very nice AoE capabilities.
Bard is the strongest DPS class (even though its a "support" role). I think It's evenly split between a DRG and BLM. I honestly want to believe Summoner will be the strongest DPS class with its summons... But we can only hope.
i want to believe dragoon is but i haven't played the other classes yet. gah i cant w8 to log in already >.<
Some of the definitive sounding answers I see from people are really interesting lol.
Time will tell, but from a biased opinion, im hoping MNK will take it, but truth be told, Square has always loved archers style dps..least this game wont break the bank to shoot arrows, that was rough xi
I leveled LNC to 20 and PUG to 19. I have decent gear 3/6 dungeon drops but no dungeon weapons. In one run, the party had an archer that was basically tanking he took so much hate. We had a number of mobs reset to full because the archer ran too far. In another run, the party had an arcanist with a carbuncle that basically tanked. (BTW carbuncle on capt in sastacha is a really bad idea if the arcanist doesn't pay attention)
Actually there is a buff to show that you have Heavy Thrust buff and the damage difference is easy to see.
I have as pulled aggro on both LNC and PGL. I use assist tank macro and I even pulled aggro during boss fights, so I was not attacking different mobs then tank.
Im personally a Archer/Bard fan. The right skill chain set up with Archers makes them a DPS force to be reckoned with!
I think PGL will have the highest possible DPS. If you can use it right and keep all of your buffs on, it can have up to a 30% damage boost and its speed increases too although I don't have any numbers yet.
To many factors come into play here. How long is the fight and is there bard buffs? From what I tested in phase 3 though they are all pretty close in DPS, which to use will mostly be determined by that which has an advantage of each encounter.
As a biased person, I think monk's with a perfected rotation will be the top, if not top 2 in damage. They also offer quite a bit of utility, like Mantra which is such a nice draw.
Monk FTW !!!
No idea which has the most damage potential but imagine it differs per fight. Going pugilist just because it's really fun to play, but if early dungeons are any indicator it's going to struggle to keep up with ranged classes due to constantly having need of avoiding AOE.
Gotta go with Archer/Bard due to the amount of DPS they can put out with the right cross class abilities of course.
I typed something extremely too long forgetting about the 1000 character limit. Anyway, here's the cliffnotes:
-ARC/BRD is DPS priority and support secondary now. Confirmed by the switch from CNJ to PGL as secondary job.
-As of P3, ARC was parsing highest DPS but all jobs were still missing a lot of abilities so it's unfair to say it will remain this way at 50, especially when some jobs were missing their combo skills (LNC with Full Thrust). Though ARC didn't get River of Blood which could keep them top. Also ARC can be 100% mobile and outside PBAoE's while PGL and LNC cannot.
-[Editted in] Also as of P3, PGL was out of TP while I as ARC still remained at 500+ due to their increased action speed. In addition, their damage per action was much lower. A lot to see later on though.
-ACN seems to have a great potential to be there if they can balance mana and keeping their dots up 100%.
-BLM is going to be interesting to see the rotation to balance Astral Fire and Umbral Ice in return with their other combo abilities (Fire to Fire III for example). It just seems like BLM is a lot of chances versus full potential like LNC or PGL. (ARC has a lot of chances too).
I think a Bard who sucks at/failed music class is the best dps.
WARRIOR!!!

thaum>arch>pgl>lnc...i'm hesitant to put acn betwix archer and pgl only got to 16 on phase4 weekend.
^and this is being that i love mnk anyway, but thats my list.
My vote is for Bard as "best"
The one that does their job properly ;)
I've not made it past PGL yet, but I'd be inclined to say MNK for sustained DMG and DRG for the harder hitting bursts. Although, THM/BLM would most likely out dmg both in just sheer raw bursting power.
I think archer would come out on top for the average player because it requires less work to play near optimum dmg, than a pug fx. The work involved with regards to positioning, maintaining dots and also avoidance during ae phases seems, at a glance to imply that you'd have to work at close to 100% optimum all the time to wring top dmg out of the pug. While Im sure the Bard requires skill to play well, it just seems like a less stressfull experience overall. I am currently aiming for pug, but during the betas I felt I had the same dps on the archer with much less effort involved.
Also, did they really remove conj from the bard feed? Because that would be awesome.
Yep during Beta 2-4, I was able to lvl my MNK, DRG, and ARC to at least lvl 15 and ARC's Burst DPS is higher than MNK, DRG. Also, when I was playing my GLD Archers by far pulled the most hate as Giaus mentioned. Now I haven't tried an ACN/SMN but from what I've seen their DoT is really good!
Monk obviously because of glowing fists
Wow is monk really all that low? Yeah positioning, blah blah blah, but greased lightening mach iii, Fists of fire and good gear should widdle mobs out pretty fast.
Phase 3 DPS Ceiling testing at lv 50 suggested the following order:
MNK >> DRG > BLM >= BRD.
Nothing got even close to matching the DPS values MNK could put out in Phase 3.
We'll see how the balance is at Launch.
From what I've seen, Monk is the big loser and might require some big adjustments in 2.1. A Monk can certainly keep up in a straight up tank+spank scenario. The issue is that Monk DPS is very fragile and cumbersome.
1. Fragile because it is the most dependent on positioning and the buff timers for GL+TS are super tight. Encounter design has potential to be super punishing to Monks. Losing 3 stacks of GL because you had to run out of a PBAoE will do nasty thing to your output. Its also the only class that is 100% useless outside of melee range.
2. Cumbersome because of AoE mechanics. A Monk's spammable AE attack is both the weakest and expensive. Its hard hitting AE attack requires 2 GCDs (one has to be a single target attack) and its only a conal. Comparatively, DRG has a spammable AE that does twice as much damage and combos nicely with Heavy Thrust (increases the difference to 3x).
That said, Monk is probably worth bringing just for the super buffed Mantra.
i know this probably isnt 100% the right post to say this on, but i cant make my own posts so... yea.. anyway i really think they should add more alternate job roles for classes, like how the arcanist can be both a healer or a dps with its jobs, i was thinking like glad+pug= dual swords dps guy, and maradr+arcan= melee dps with a pet, lancer+glad= shield and spear tank, pug+conj= melee ish healer that would make sense if you played a warrior preist on warhammer online, just to add more diversity and usefull ness
I think it comes down to preference of Burst Damage or Consistent Damage.
I think polearms give enough damage, but TP can be the Achilles heel. In the end, I think the best is the one you get the best results in Full/Light Party.
It's going to be either Monk or Drg if this game is balanced. No ranged class should be able to safely attack from a distance and still do the same damage as a class that has to be within a few feet of a mob.
I have BLM 50 amd MNK 31 so I love to DPS and I really think its situational as to which class is better. If I am going solo Definitely MNK but if I am doing a run with my FC with a tank I trust then I will take my BLM. Mnk for me is a lot faster when it comes to chaining attacks but With BLM transpose they have more staying power and are not as tied to TP watching as much as a mnk is in a long fight
BLM. Due to-
1. They never, ever, run out of MP.
2. Single target and AOE in both ice and fire, no combo necessary.
3. Spamable AOEs not tied to combos for situations like CBM where you can clear waves of mini mobs in 2 casts.
4. Crowd control. Sleep, bind, heavy.
5. THM is easily the best solo Leve / FATE / forced solo quest class.
6. THM is useful in a party situation whereas other classes aren't nearly as much.
pshh, shame on you all. everyone knows that pld is dps masta and blm is the best tank.
nah in all seriousness, best dps is situational depending on the length of the fight, the amount of enemies you're fighting, enemy attributes (hp, abilities, etc.), aaaaand party make-up. the job/class that currently highest advantage though is arc/brd. mage dps have casting times and can't run and cast. melee can attack and run at the same time but they need to be up close at all times. arc/brd can run and shoot without a problem. of course, if there is only 1 enemy, and that enemy is stationary, then the point is moot which proves what the first sentence of the paragraph says. just some food for thought for you guys. ;)
