They did, but perhaps they feel FFXIV is that? A VII redux could be cool but a simple HD patch, meh give me a new FF first lol.

Shinji said they are preparing for a new FF title. I doubt their will be a number at the end of this Final Fantasy's title. Because it sounds like a PS4 exclusive game, kinda like other Final Fantasy's that came out outside the main series, Chrystal Chronicles/Ring of Fates/The 4 Heroes of Light and Tactics. This could easly be something outside the main series for Ps4 only. I dont really see this being VII remake, XIII anything or even XV.
I don't think its SE's fault that their part of the show wasn't anything new or mind blowing, but rather Sony's part in 1-upping Xbox's next-gen unveiling at E3 instead. The gaming industry and most of us were all surprised that Sony had elected to have this early announcement of the PS4 in January and pretty much had to assemble whatever demos and videos were available. I'm assuming Sony asked SE if they can take part in the show and SE, in the midst of prepping for E3 and taken by surprised by Sony, didn't want to say no and at the same time, didn't want to reveal what they had already planned for E3. I'm sure that SE had thought about the same things that fans and the media would question their presentation (or lack there of), but SE would rather get slighted by the fans and media than to say no to Sony.
