PC .. Since is the only way i can play it on my new korea made 2560x1440 RES monitor and at lease use my 2 new EVGA 670 FTW GPUs not that this game will need that power XD
PC - I no own uh PS3 (Also real quick didga know pie = 3.14 and 3.14 in a mirror looks kinda like PI.E) Thats pretty nuts huh?? Xrazy I know...
Decided to stick with the PC. Wan to get the best graphical experience out of it and a choice of interface, between controller or mouse and keyboard. THe PC version will have better use of the glorious shadowing ARR uses.
Was goig nto set up the ps3 in the bedroom, but Since I have a good gamign laptop, opted with that. THe I7 aand GT660 pro gpu will do a better job.
Plus my sugar daddy said so.
I'll play on both, I plan on buying the PS3 collectors version. (if they have one)
Lol and i almost believed the /380$ buildnto max out the game i'll believe it when i see the seperate pieces
No way a new $400 PC will max out the game, unless you like playing at less than 10 FPS.
It's good to check out Tom's Hardware System Builder Marathon
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...uter,3374.html
They don't include the price of windows, monitor, keyboard/mouse, controller.
Yea i didnt believe it myself, i seen someone post it earlier in the thread. My build from lastyear was about 950 to max out ffxiv
@raagnar i can open up my pS3 and repair it myself. Seeing as you know how to fix a pc id assume you do to?
But don't get me wrong i much more perfer playing it on a PC, and theres a chance i might get another.
Ya, that's about the right price for a really good PC. When building a gaming PC you should spend more on video card than on the CPU. Diminishing returns really kick in when going above a i5 3570k CPU for gaming.
I changed my wording a bit to diminishing returns instead of pointless. I did purposely went for a hex core CPU since I know FFXIV 1.0 does somewhat take advantage of Multi Core CPUs, and like I said I'm made of money:p. However it's not great, it's like 15% more performance with 50% more cores. However, AMD piledriver CPUs don't seem to get the same benefit because of the low IPC(Instructions per cycle) combined with the poor threading of FFXIV.
Below is a screen shot that demonstrates the poor threading with old benchmark. Notice one logical core is maxed out. CPU is running at 4.5 Ghz with 2400 Mhz ram XMP profile.

What size is your monitor?
27", I'm using Samsung S27A950D, which is a 1080p 120hz monitor. Note: This monitor isn't optimal for 3D with NVIDIA cards.
Might play on PS3 sometimes, and on PC other times. :B
Yeah most types of games are hard to multi thread well. They will usually max out a single core easily, but not so much on any others, although they do help to a limited degree. From what i've seen Quad is usually plenty, you just want the fastest single core speed you can get if at all possible. Unless of course you do other things with the PC.
Ugh, reminds me I need to upgrade my system to an SR-3
LOL, that's insane :)
I think you mean this:

Currently Using an SR-2
Hope this still works, might load slow though.

That's a beast. My little Micro-ATX computer cowers before it. I'm curious what score you can get with old benchmark, you need to force benchmark to full screen to get accurate score because of multiple GPUs.
Not that much, at least from what I remember. Currently one of the cards is disabled so only 2 GPUs right now. But iirc, when I did it and forced it full screen each GPU was only at 25%, where with one it was 100% pretty much. So it didn't really get better.
What system are you playing on?
PS3 and PC so Both
Why?
I've been playing quite awhile on PC already. However I'm picking up the PS3 version too so if I want, I can sit on my comfy couch and play the game on my 46" HDTV! :D
Plus there is the additional plus on when my wife kicks me off the PC I can play on the PS3. lulz
If your playing on a PS3 drop your PSN below..
XCman79 tell me your from FFXIV on the invite and I'll add you. Otherwise I'm picky who I add.
Hope to see you guys in PS3 beta!
PC, so I can play XIV and and still use my other TV to play consol games or watch TV
PC, because I spent too much money on it not to.
PC, just got my new GPU plus I don't own a PS3 and don't intend to either :P
Given up on consoles, moving to PC gaming instead :D
both, pc and ps3 ( if theres a ps4 version, ill go ps4 )
why? because i initially bought ps3 with a pretense that 1.0 was coming out for ps3 march 2011, now its just in a box after i played ff13
because i am a controller person, and i like to play mmos using controllers ( and also this way my other friends who cant make a decent desktop can play ff14 and chat using psn )
i'm going with pc this time around. i did ps2 for ffxi. it was great cause i used my ps2 controller and chilled out with it and i didn't have a good pc all them years. but i also broke and had to get my ps2 repaired about 3times and 1 time my hd in the back broke>< ...playing all day and nite and then mule sitting afk while i sleep did that lol. and though we don't need afk mules now ...i don't want to go threw that either. plus i have a kick ass pc now and i know that it will be less laggy and less issues ...like the black outs in sea from ps2 didn't happen on pc and when i did get a pc near my end of ffxi i noticed a huge difference in quality and lag. and i can still use my hdtv and controller with my pc. so it's all day win with the pc less you don't have the loot to buy a pc.
I'll play which ever one has the best game pad experience. FFXI ps2 can't go back :o I'll play on pc for the graphical experience though!
PC ftw. I want the benchmark already.
Both at the same time just because.
But for real.. both just depending on my mood. I can lay down and play PS3 version if I don't feel like sitting up etc.
Hmm, atm i got two desktops with i7 ready to run the game. Im hoping one of the laptops from work is gonna be able to run it too. Gonna buy the ps3 version at once too, it might be easier to two box with a PS3 and a PC. Depending on how good the gamepad interface is.
My PC is pretty great so of course I'll be playing FFXIV on it. Back in the XI days I played on PS2 because my PC was crap, but now I will have my moment. MY MOMENT.
Both for me as well
Personally I will be playing on both but I do prefer to be on pc when fighting bosses.
PS3 - Casual Playing, Crafting, Gathering
Laptop - Casual Mobile Playing - Internet Cafe etc
PC - Hardcore Playing, endgame, raids etc
It's good to have options.
My high-end PC acts like a PS3 (<3 40" HDTV) and it's for gaming only...
I have my PS3, I often play it just for JRPG and some online games myself since most of my friends like to play only COD. =_=
My fat PS2 used to be running FFXI for months without turning it off so I won't do it on my PS3 again.
So, PC for me.
PC because it will pretty much always be better at running it.
Yea im still not sure if im building my own or going alienware. Mostlikely building it to keep it cheap and powerful
