No thanks I already have kids in RL!!!!!
personally i dont like this idea, whats next..
someone somewhere is going to come out and say "ive been thinking about it.. why dont we have elections ingame and have 1 player be president for 5 days then a reelection.. how about we have work ingame where u choose the hours to work and get a payday at the end of the month, how about we have a family tree where theres 3 clans and each player gives birth to the other player on their 1st day ingame with a CS..
just stop with these half witted ideas, leave RL sh*t irl and ingame sh*t ingame..
dear god..... people want to make babies online now rofl, think about it.. people, want, to, make, babies, online.
i loose faith in this community with each thread XD
I would never do this myself but I see no problem with letting other people do it.
Not a good idea... definitely not. As mentioned by some people on the first page, it reeks of a Fable rip-off mixed in with some Sims sequences... not cool, not original, not Final Fantasy.
Most importantly, it will be a problem for SE trying to establish a PG 12 rating for a game that has these elements... suddenly, we're talking about creating a rating of 17+ and there goes their foothold in creating a whole customer base in the 12 to 16 age group. Not good for business, not good for image.
Please return to playing Fable if these sort of issues are that important to you... this is Final Fantasy.
Theres always been sexuality in FF. FF9 dagger gets her butt touched and zidane says "ooo soft" Women in thongs; ff12 and some of the originals had partial nudity. FF10-2 has alot of sensual/sexual content as well. Sexuality doesn't just mean sex.
Yeah i may have started something dangerous.
Sex has always been present, but it has never been an actual upfront topic. It's always been through implications, and through skimpy clothing.
Take the miner miqo'te for example. You have to put on your sexual innuendo cap on to really see what they say (and for some of us, that cap is forever on >_>)
If they add the ability to breed ingame, that will definitely open up a different can of worms, one I'm not so sure I'd like to see in XIV, which is why I brought up the idea of adoption.
Yeah ff is pretty sly as a fox when it comes to those sexual type stuff. not upfront and blunt, but hidden. You'd have to have the knowledge. Just like Shrek is a family movie, with adult type stuff, kids wouldn't understand.
I like the idea of adoption, those Gridanian orphans need a home! Cept i'd hate to parley with them again in hide n' seek ;p
The topic of sex is very much present in the game, but in a more mature, subtle way, as has been mentioned (for instance, the miqo'te Path Companion is something of a nymph when it comes to your character - every sentence of dialogue she uttered was sexually tinged - I think there was even a line where she said something like "It's a pity I'm not a man you know, otherwise you'd know exactly how pleased I am to see you!"). Not that it was really offensive, just more for comic relief than anything.
As for marriage/child rearing in game, I only think such a concept could only really be viable if there was some kind of permadeath in the game (namely, your character dies and their offspring takes up their mantle and weapon, and so on, which would open up interesting possibilities for the game's direction, but ultimately lead to more problems than would be worth it).
It would also smack far too much of The Sims with a bit of Fable thrown in for good measure (not to mention the whole issue with younger players being exposed to such concepts and the resultant PR nightmare it could generate), so yeah, such a concept would not be desirable or even workable for FFXIV as has been stated.
This is all the game needs. How much effort would raising said child take? We wouldn't want the younger players to get the wrong impression about child raising, would we? Even XI's system, as annoying as it is to visit the stables every day, still doesn't compare to the challenge of raising a baby.
Granted I don't have kids myself, but I can't help but notice how stressed a household of 6 adult Sims can get when there's even 1 baby.
I just wanna reshape my character in to Miquo'te male cat and marry some handsome male Roegadyn and have happily ever after...

Here is why you dont have baby raising in mmo's
As a matter of fact I rather like the idea. Sure, there will be some problems with making it adapted to a final fantasy(it shouldn't be too bothersome for example, well hiden sexual part etc...) but I think that for RP'er in particular this would be worth the while. As it has been said, our little american friend may be a bit problematic but, at least from what i have seen in game, most players i spoke with were 18+ so everything should be okay^^ anyway, no one want a 12+ game right?
After that, the children system would definitely have to be funny and not some tiresome and complicated stuff that eats all your playing time except if you want it of course.
An mmo is supposed to be something immersive and in many way it is a kind of second life that has more fantasy than the first( a lot more if possible^^) so this kind of idea could really add something to this game. Or so I think at least.
I'm still waiting for that dose of gratitude she promised.... :P
Yeah... and also why killer games have to be banned, because they make people kill, right?
Seriously though, it's rather frightening how addicted some people get. Why would you starve rather than take a break from a game? Or let your baby starve? The rest is just the press delivering what the majority wants to read: shocking, sensational material.
Well, to put it into perspective, Korea (and China) have huge huge markets for these kinds of games. One of my classmates from Seoul did a presentation on her country in class, and one of the main things she talked about is how Koreans train (sometimes professionally) for MMO's as if it was a professional sport...it gets very very intensive.
Scenarios like babies starving, unfortunately are probably more common-place than we hear about. There's also been killings and suicides related to MMO addiction in these countries. So putting this article into perspective should tell a story about countries that have problems with these sort of games, not what one game can do to a family.
The only thing related to this in the west I've heard of is a few years back where a lady let her son drown in the bathtub because she was too busy playing Farmville on FaceBook. She insisted she was "teaching him to be a man" by letting him bathe himself (I think he was about 3?).
I have to disagree. The way marriage was originally implement in XI was ridiculous. A couple had to have a third-party chaperone who actually applied for the wedding and wait weeks or months to be approved and assigned a time/date/place. Years later I think it was changed and made "easier".
"Completing a quest" sounds perfect. I just want to be able to go down to the courthouse and elope if I want to. :p
This would be bad for me because my character is a man whore so all the child support I'd be paying to the lovely ladies of Hyperion would make the immortal flames look like a non profit organization.
I married a close friend in XI. I did it because her husband (then boy friend at the time) played a female character. She was very happy because she got the Rare/Ex dress before the marriage patch. But, if an in-game child had come of it, I would have found it very creepy and may have not done so. I don't think kids are my (or virtual selfs) kind of thing. lol
This idea gets two thumbs up from me :)
guess it was so dull that i completely forgot about it, no but seriously.. i wasent pitching that idea.. thought it was obvious, but i guess not everyone is as awesome as me ='/
besides Guildleves are for tricking lalafels into joining, then pulling off mass kidnappings .. i dont see any other reason, and you cant convince me otherwise >.>b
