All I will say is the A LOT of people are not happy with the combat system in its current, ALPHA, form. Beta will add missing elements so I would just recommend people waiting for BETA. If you are unhappy about something in Beta be vocal about it. Constructive criticism is going to be what makes this game amazing. What will NOT help make ARR amazing is letting every small upgrade from 1.0 blind you from really fixing problems or even making something that works so much better.

Sad that this happens despite Yoshida mentioning that alpha is more for stress testing than anything else.

I can't imagine why people would be having a problem with the new battle system, outside of the whole "i wanna be different for the sake of being different" thing. It looks lively and fast-paced, at least to me who has played fast-paced systems before.

I did find it interesting that they had a dragoon tanking, and am surprised no one else has mentioned it. Then again, they had two white mages too.

There are no tanks in Alpha, only dragoons, bards, and White Mages

I was more getting at my being hopeful of 4-man dungeons being a little more open as far as group comps went.

I get the feeling you'll be seeing TP refunds and things that temporarily increase TP regen at some point. The headache will really be balancing 7+ jobs around one resource system in a fast-paced environment.

People telling other people the game is in alphA, stress test same comment over and over. Everyone knows they are alpha vids veryone knows its for stress testing, No need to keep saying it.

all 3 musics are epicness.

ONLY issue i see is the timer @_@ they should only use timers if it plays a part in that instances story. such as if theres a bomb and you have to kill the boss to disarm it. timers just cause you to rush.

"More than anything else." That's true - but that doesn't exclude discussion and feedback on other aspects. If SE didn't think this periphery stuff was important, why did they include a "Battle" section on the alpha forums? Feel free to answer that, since it's so sad that this happens.

You can't imagine why people would have a problem with the new battle system. Hmmm. Do you, who has played fast-paced systems before, realize that it boils down to either pressing 1 repeatedly, or pressing 1 and then, three seconds later, 2? For maximum DPS, the best you can possibly do, that's the entire "system."

Just because there are a lot of lights and noise on the screen doesn't mean what you're doing is impressive or complex. We can't rule out that beta will change what we've seen, even some fundamentals that currently seem limiting. But we know two things:

1) The battle system is far and away the most concerning thing about alpha
2) Beta will have to see it change drastically, otherwise ARR's battle is going to have a serious lack of performance discrepancy and depth

Tying this back into the beginning of this post, do you think it best to voice our thoughts during alpha, or is it best to say nothing until beta and just hope that our concerns are alleviated?

After 1.0 I find it indefensible to say that people shouldn't make their opinions heard as soon as possible. And as I've said, SE provided a forum specifically for this purpose.

There is only lancer, conjurer, and archer in alpha version. We will probably have lancers tanking it in beta too if tam-tara is involved in a 'tutorial' quest from gridania. Gridania doesnt have any tank class guilds.

Considering we have no scope of what class design is going to be like at lv50+ in ARR, I would say suggestions are one thing, and expressing concern for something that's a hold-over is another.

The only thing I might qualify as a concern is the fact that the classes and jobs need tertiary mechanics (procs, reactive abilities, resource refunds) to further flesh out rotations and better fit in fast-paced gameplay. We don't know if we'll get those at later levels with Alpha being capped at lv20. It'd be nonsensical for a character to get everything by lv20, so all we can do is wait and see how they approach it.

I guess I am too old school or something. Getting really tired of seeing the white mage doing my job.

Like Ninja did for alot fights with Paladin in FFXI.

I once did over 11k dps in a Garuda fight...

I don't know where to post this. I almost made a new thread about it, but I'm sure one has already been made somewhere - even though I couldn't find it using the search option. So sorry if there's a better thread for this or if I should have put aside fears of being chased off with pitchforks and torches for posting a duplicate thread. :D

I wanted to ask the Devs, are we going to see more of an emphasis on tactics in ARR? I would like to see ALL MOBS have more potent strengths and weaknesses that made them unique from one another. For example, beasts with "tougher skin" (scales, armor, shells) would take more damage (Noticeable differences that we can't ignore) from weapons/classes with an emphasis on piercing damage (same with elements, blunt weapons, ect., ect.). I could list tons of examples here and leave a wall of text, but I'm sure its easy to imagine all the other possibilities I'm thinking of.

It seemed like in 1.0 there was no reason to gear up differently for the different fights in the game. All those useless types of materia that nobody would ever think about using on endgame gear possibly become relevant if tactics are emphasized more. I would love to have a reason to meld "Fire Swords" or "Flame Resistant Armor".

I freaking love the "Mindflayer" at the very end of the clip. So excited to fight that thing!!!

Yeah, the "Mindflayer" was awesome. Please, no hand-holding me SE... usually the fight is more fun when you figure out a trick to it. I hope it's companied by two or three more like in the original Final Fantasy.

If it's just lv.17 it shouldn't be so hard to defeat it but with more, it would be epic and challenging.(what would the treasure be, a crown?) XD

I want that tune that kicks in when the party reaches the Soulflayer.... Too EpIc!! >_<;

HTFU already beta, I wanna play NAO! And yeah before people state the obvious, I know Yoshi has just left Japan to promote the game around the world and blah blah blah - I'm just stating my excitement and impatience. :)
