About ARR release.

The wait will be hard for me but ...

after looking around at the other game options, i think that after 5 months time everyone playing those games will be sick of them and want to try something new XD

maybe the timing of the release will be a good thing and not a bad one ....

maybe :D

I don't Ming if as long as in get be in beta and alpha all along the way

I would happily wait until Summer for the game to come back.
I have more things in life to get on with and if the game were out during these next few months I would definitely fail my degree!!
So Work and work, then work some more, and then spend much time loving on my Mi'qote. I miss her so much T_T
I don't want to play a rushed game again (even if I did love it anyway).

I don't understand the Want/Need for people to have beta characters moved over to release. It completely shows that you don't care to TEST the game and help find problems. All you want is to play the game early. Why is it you want to play beta and when the game is released you are half way done with the games content? Then, all the people wanting beta character transfers cry about the lack of things to do because when the game launches you've already finished half of the damn content in the game.

The way I feel about it is, yea, I may lose interest for a while. I WILL play something else. As soon as ARR releases or is close to release, BAM, I'm on the site everyday. I'm watching videos. Signing up for betas to test the the game and its new mechanics. Then, when the game is out, I'm playing it.

I think as soon as everyone finds out the release date, no matter how long it takes, they will flock back.

While I'm neutral on the issue (IE: I don't personally care either way), there are several benefits to that, but mainly:

1: charcopy of our existing characters to the beta will help with testing of high level content, that normally needs testing DIRELY and that never gets tested enough in betas
2: having characters carrying over to release gives people more incentives to actually test the game. More people test, more people will provide feedback, more polished the game will be. It's a pretty simple statistical matter.

Drawbacks? There's none.

Beta testing isn't some kind of honor or privilege people should be grateful for, nor a mission. It's a service we provide to Square Enix, and there's nothing wrong if the benefits go both ways. Quite the opposite, the more people are encouraged to provide that service, the better.

The only caveat is that data should carry over only since *everyone* of the players that applied are invited. Otherwise it would give an unfair advantage to those that are over those that aren't.

Pretty much. The "unfound rumor" people fought against and said everything is on track is looking more and more likely, so now that SE basically came out and confirmed what pretty much everyone that wasn't overly optimistic suspected, people are accepting of it being a later release date than they hoped (Jan/Feb.)

Besides, it's only really current players that are concerned about keeping progress because they want to play ARR already, not necessarily falling over themselves to actually use a beta test for what they're designed for. Only reason to save data is if they're treating it as an early play period, or in other words basically a demo to keep people occupied.

Otherwise, those who never touched XIV that get into beta aren't as concerned about save data transitioning over since there's a good chance they'll probably start over on launch anyway if there's any significant changes.

I don't think that the ACTUAL players won't come back to try Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, even if it will take one year to come out.
But most of all, you have to keep in your minds that Square-Enix needs and wants NEW players, and they will be the majority (We are not so many on the game), and for them there is no "time in which people will loose interest".
So I can understand perfectly that Yoshi wants to take the time that is needed to fulfill all the tasks he has before releasing the game.

You make good points, but beta testing for games have been around forever and no one ever didn't play a beta just because that progress wasn't saved. It's all falling into the same area as games like WARZ. Everyone is complaining about that game and some of is bugs and glitches and how they will quit if blah blah blah. They treat the game as if it's launched. THAT is what happens when you start saving alpha and beta progress. Bug reports will be people threatening to quit if said glitch is fixed. It no longer becomes testing phases when the things you do transfer over. What if something is bugged in a quest line and it skips cut scenes or dialog? You now missed out on that unless you pay for another character slot and play it again.

For some reason though if feel like even if everyone played beta, they still wouldn't save. Just doesn't seem like their style?

A simple matter of the fact here is, current players and new players will not forget about ARR because they won't I promised :)
The same people who can't wait impatiently will definitely come back including the ones who left and the new ones.

It's best that SE not rush 2.0 ARR because they''ve already learned their lessons with 1.0.

The people who have been playing this game now are not as important for the success of this game as the potential players who don't have a tolerance for another botched release. The longer the alpha/beta is the better this game will be for us in the long run too; because a better game = more subscribers which will in turn give SE the assets they need to provide consistent high quality content. If this game need another 6-8 months before it goes retail, then so be it.

Honestly even though I think it could be March... I wouldn't do march if I were them.... this went out at my work today for games releasing around FEB-March (I haven't confirmed all the titles in the list, and some of them might move etc..) I understand they are not all RPGs but that's quite a few big hitters in there.

Don't know about you guys but when I'm logging in FFXI during the time my interest in that game was still high, I don't play any other games. Same applies to FFXIV 1.0.

For some reason I just don't care for any other games because I have FF mmo to play. :)

Once I'm logged on to FF online, no other games has a chance to even get my attention :P

I don't think marketing is going to look at it like that. They will be trying to target new players.

I rather wait 10 months fir years of great game play.

relax guys new road map is coming in a few weeks time....

FFXI, and after that FFXIV was my evening entertainment. I'm not a game hopper. I like the online FF series, and will wait for the release of 2.0, and hopefully get into the alpha and beta tests.
I provided feedback in alpha and beta on how I thought the game performed in 1.0. Performance was bad. Jerky, stalling and just plain hard to play. That was the old management. The current team will not let us down this time.

I'll be happy if I get into Beta and can help make the game better when it is finally released. In the mean time, I have school to worry about, movies to watch, books to read, and other games I can play with my Ls mates that don't require as much time investment. A few extra months will go by fast.

Furthermore, it was NOT rushing a release that made FFXIV bad. It was its misguided direction and tanaka's obstinacy in making a game that was 10-15 years behind its time.

FFXIV was so horribly made from a technical standpoint that it couldn't even be patched into decency. ARR is not even the same game, it's a completely different game recoded from scratch as a much more actual and versatile game. This means that even if ARR releases early, its issues can be patched. Unlike FFXIV.

yea it's a long time, But honestly I want them to take as much time as they need. If that means the game won't see the light of day till summer 2013 or further down the line I'm fine with that. I don't want the same mistake they made with 1.0 to happen with ARR.

you are partly correct in that it wasn't only rushing XIV out that made it bad, But rushing it out also made it an incomplete game (content wise) as well as a buggy one.

If ARR has serious issues when it's released, the game is done.

What SE is doing is unspeakable in the game industry. If an MMO fails, it's done. They managed to resurrect XIV and they're being given one final chance to make it right. Square Enix cannot afford another screw up. People will wait as long as it takes.

It's not like they're not improving during that time. The longer it takes to be released, the more things they fix, the more content they add, and the more they can improve the engine/graphics/animations.

I just want to say, this isn't the case, because they said time and time again Housing isn't going to be in at release. What is true is that the longer it takes the more likely issues are to be knocked out which is what they're concerned about, but they already have the roadmap of development in mind in terms of content and that won't change.

What is planned for release will be in release, what is planned for after release will be released in a patch after the game launches, otherwise they may as well delay ARR for a few years to add in every content they had in mind for the game.

There's more stuff to the game than just housing...

They have (read: no exceptions) to have this game compete with the most popular MMOs on the market at release and those that are planned to be released within the year after. They must do what it takes, regardless of if it takes 5 months.

And, regardless of what people are gonna say now, they're all gonna flock back to the game.

Maybe it will give them time to actually add more than just jumping chocobos.
