I am more pumped than I was for FFXIV 1.0 launch. If you was to ask how excited I was on a scale of 1 to 10, I would say 1500.

How excited am I?
On a scale of 1 to 10?

when you effectively sign the ULA by agreeing to terms, there's a really important little blurb they tend to emphasize: "game experience may change during online play"
why? because it's an MMO, and things change. timelines are incredibly hard to rigorously stick to. not everything goes according to plan. you have to adjust on the fly. you change your mind about things. you get the idea.
did they say they'd release a flood of info? yep. did it come? depends on your definition of flood. apparently it's INCREDIBLY subjective. but they made the judgment call to withhold a lot of it until later, as to make a stronger marketing push closer to ARR's release.
as far as business decisions go, that's the wisest.
this makes you more excited for EQnext? cool story. go flail around on those forums for even less info than you're getting about ARR. but in the meantime square is trying to make the best possible decisions it can to ensure the success of their reimagined and relaunched MMO franchise. your feelings on the issue are your feelings, but this is business. nothing personal.
Not to be nitpicky (yes) but when it says "game experience may change during online play" they're talking about how human experience has no ratings limit. People can speak well beyond the bounds of the Teen rating. It's pretty much just something game makers slap on online games so they're not responsible for anything 'morally or ethically objectionable' you come across while you're playing online.
considering you honestly believe "all that's been confirmed is jump", you seem to have trouble making sense of *anything* written out in plain, simple english. it doesn't hurt my feelings at all to be on the opposite side of the fence from you.
and as far as making time to play the game: take your own advice. i'm doing things in this game you can't even begin to match.
clearly i was using that clause in the ULA as an example of the shifting nature of MMO-related things. i didn't just throw "you get the idea" in there at the end as a redundancy.
and no, that isn't "pretty much" all it is. it has *quite a lot* to do with tweaks made to the game with patches. adding some content. removing some content. buffing this class. nerfing that class. changing the algorithms for enmity or damage. changing AI. adjusting NPC pricing and inventory (ie: the great guild wars 2 cooking purge).
so, no. you don't really sound nitpicky. you sound more jackassy.
Playing FFXIII-2 atm so I'm hopping back and forth :P.
PS: btw there is more information than you think, there's plenty of information, that some people will deny it's information, but I don't care it's decent information to me, if your not up to date, I can retrieve some links for you.
That statement was addressing the possibility, not the likelihood. And to be honest, I'm sick of all of you dampening the already low excitement. Yes, SE should be showing us more to impress, but that doesn't mean we can't be excited regardless. You might not be excited, but quit bringing down anyone that is. Last I checked, it doesn't hurt anyone to be enthusiastic about a game release.
Yeah, everytime I see a person say " this game is going to fail" or " I feel like this game is not going to make it" it makes me not want to be excited about XIV when I really truly am. I mean it's fine to let out your emotions.. but when you start to repeat those actions... it's like your shoving down your negativity down peoples throats and that's when it starts to get annoying.
that could be because i enjoyed the game more january after launch than i do now. i'm at least honest in saying i enjoyed tanaka's vision of the game more than i do its current direction. i'm going to give it a shot because i would rather try something to see if i like it than to say i know i'm not going to. something may sound horrible to you and be fantastic, but you will never know unless you try it.
i know there are plenty of foods that i had the impression i would hate by the way they sounded, but when i actually tried them i loved them. i'm giving arr the same shot. i hate the way it sounds, but will try it and then determine if i like it or not.
edit: if you knew me or anything about me you would know that i have cut my time in game back quite a bit in the last year because i do not find it as enjoyable. my classes were all capped around november last year and don't play nearly as much anymore. to sit and say this game still has me glued to my chair is pure assumption and ignorance.
I am very much looking forward to ARR and I think it will be a success but I guess it depends on one's interpretation of success.
I think that FFXIV ARR is going to be a huge hit...on the PS3 (esp. in Japan) and I believe that is SE's target audience and has been all along. Don't forget it was supposed to be released for PS3 shortly after the initial PC Launch 2 years ago but of course we all know it was a mess and would have been an even bigger disaster that they never would have recovered from.
I am not worried that it will be a "WoW Clone" unless by "clone" you mean all the basic elements that are expected to be in a RPG/MMO, ie. Storyline, Quests, Character Progression, Dungeons, Gear Runs, Crafting, Player Based Economy/Auction House, Magic Spells, Weapon Skills, Class Skills, Job Skills, Solo Content, Party Content, Easy Content, Hard Content, Summons/Pets, Mounts, Transportation, Diverse Areas/Zones, etc., etc.
For me it is not so much about what content is in the game (so long as there is alot of it) but rather how it is implemented and on this part I am putting some Faith in SE to pull it off. The reason I have Faith is because of FFXI.
The main reason I enjoyed XI so much was not the game mechanics (they were pretty clunky) or the UI (also clunky) but rather it was because of the Stories that I was a part of: The Shadowlord, the Zilarts, the Promethians, Aht Urhgan, and the Goddess, even the City Missions and Sidequests had humor, intrigue, heartache, hope and loss intertwined throughout the game. SE has always been good at storytelling and I expect that to still be their strong suit in ARR.
I also really, really liked the aspect that I could experience everything the game had to offer on my one main character, Davorok the Galka. This led to a very strong connection to my character and to the game world in general. This is what set FFXI apart from every other MMO at the time and still today is the only one (I believe) along with XIV that allows this. I always felt that if FFXI had a better UI and streamlined controls/mechanics that it would have been much more succesful and probably would be considered the greatest MMO of all time...Untill Now!
I believe that FFXIV ARR just might be the Phoenix that rises from the ashes of Eorzea. Will it be a WoW Killer? Probably not and as I stated earlier I don't believe that is SE's intentions but rather they are creating the best Console RPG/MMO ever made which will also be very enjoyable on the PC as well...
...and I am looking forward to it.
I'm a little more tempered in my expectations (I would say "cautiously hopeful") but otherwise agree with your thoughts on SE's target audience.
The number of online games available to the average non-English-speaking Japanese player is much more limited. This could be the market they are aiming to satisfy first and foremost.
Of course they would like to attract as much of the international player base as they can (especially with all the MMO-standard changes that seems to be taking place), but they also probably know that a large chunk of their long-term customer base are Japanese fans of the series.
Not that I really care that it's rude, but you're known for making exaggerated posts.
THIS FIGHT IS TOO HARD SE PEOPLE WILL QUIT.
TOR IS GONNA KILL THIS GAME WHY ARE YOU MAKING IT P2P.
ECONOMY IS SOOOOOO BAAAAAAAAAD SE THIS WON'T SOLVE ANYTHING.
WHY ISN'T THIS FLOP OF A GAME MEMORABLE.
I could go on.
I made critical posts about a game that failed so hard they had to remake it. ZOMG
I remember ppl being like "dont be so critical, this game is one of the best mmos out there" at open beta...
Critical posts are good if a game is bad. otherwise they don't fix anything.
Being critical about a game is fine and good, but the constant negativity that these forums come off with is very unappealling to a new player. This is easily one of the worst MMO communities I've ever dealt with, simply because of the entitlement and negativity that they all seem to have.
You can be critical without saying a game is going to fail. Crazy, huh?
I am so psyched up i punch my lil sister in the face every morning.
And will continue to do so till the release of ARR in 2096.

come on guys we should be excited!
You folks should check out the FFXIV ARR Facebook page sometime. The majority of the comments there are very positive about how this game is shaping up and most of them are looking forward to it.
Here is just one I "borrowed" that represents the majority pretty well:Quote:

Parker Dutcher I played this in 2010. Bought a new PC just to play this. Played until July 2011 quit when the switch was made from active combat to auto attacks because it was very buggy. Kept my eye on this. It is looking very good. I played 11 on ps2 I will be playing this on ps3. And it can take as long as it takes to get it perfect for launch. No need to rush things. We know what happened last time http://static.ak.fbcdn.net/images/blank.gif can't wait for more pics and videos!
Why should we be excited anyway?
Yoshi: It's a secret for now, please be patient.
Yeah I want to know every single detail down to the pixel about a game before it's out! Then when it comes out, I'll complain there's no surprises!
...People sicken me.
hmm... how come people in here are so tight and have no sense of humor whatsoever...
why always see the bad side of every comment and hate? why not just be like "lulz"
and go on eating them Doritos?
Chill dude, take a load off, put your feet up, look at this painting over here, smell these flowers,
be a Canadia for a bit...
BTW I dun even have a younger sister.
:x I was expecting you to say "don't worry, im not sexist, when i party i always look through a binder full of women to pick out female party members, and then make sure i give them time to cook meals for any males near them and make sandwiches"
But since your not like that, we can be friends now ^^
