Alpha next week. ^-
I'm going to guess April 20th but that's only because it's my birthday. If anything I hope they take their time with fixing everything so they won't have issues and a bad launch.
I'm guessing February 30th 2013.
j/k
2nd half of February for real. (^_^ )
Around Christmas, this year.
I'm guessing when Alpha turns into Beta (or if we're a few weeks into beta) we'll have a release date.
When people have time off from work/school/etc is a really good time to release an indoor activity like an MMO... obviously. Maybe I'm being optimistic, but I can't see the re-launch going well if we have to wait until Feb or later.
This thread makes me sad. :( I was thinking the game wouldn't be down for that long, but it seems that I won't be able to do anything meaningful for at least 5 months (late March). If it takes a month or so to transfer date and they asked us if we wanted to keep the current version running while testing is taking place on ARR, it would be nice if the would push back the date of the final save. They can't say that it would cost anymore than what they have planned currently.
March or April of next year.
If you think it will release before March, your crazy. Major content is still being developed. Then they need to test, debug, polish, etc. 5 months is optimistic.
hmmm i will go with mid June, Just before summer
about 1 month in defferent phases of beta
full open beta may
then relase June
This isn't really the issue, the issue is we don't even have Alpha/beta yet, so not even the basics seem to be where they want it. They can produce content fairly quickly with the size of their team especially considering the fact unless they really shit the bed they have 1.0's assets to build off of.
Feb 2010 and Alpha started or will started in the next day or two. Unless he says otherwise Yoshi-p said that alphas would start at the end of Sept. That at least gives us a starting point.
Cant really think of a date. Im hoping jan-march next year. One thing is certain though. For every mon that the game is down they lose sub money (not that its an astonomical amount compared to say WoW). They also lose potemtial sub money for those wanting to pick it up at launch. They also have to pay the dev teams' salaries and pay for promotions and thing of that nature.
If SE is smart they planned ahead so as not to have an extreme amount of downtime. Im sure they also dont want people getting too attached to other games and MMOs. For alot of people just a month or two is enough time to forget about ARR and move on.
I don't even understand people giving any date in 2012... Alpha didn't even start :/ We're in October. Less than 3 months for alpha/beta? Not going to talk about the PS3 version as well.
I'll bet for Spring 2013 :d (Not Australian Spring please ><)
Why everyone assume that renting servers cost a lot for MMO providers? It doesn't. What costs is manpower. Bandwidth/servers are way less than 10% of costs (at least it was less than 10% for NCSoft, and bandwidth included everything, game servers + their websites/forums etc. Figures here.)Quote:
1. Cost tons of money to run 2 data centers running to 2 games (FFXIV and ARR). Ending in November would be the smart choice so they don't have to keep 2 data centers up the whole time and saving game data.
Did you really have to put that there? Most of us know that you guys mean northern hemisphere spring/summer/season when you speak in season terms. That almost borders on insulting/discriminating comment in my opinion. Like you're looking down on us. >.> If you're so deathly afraid of anyone making assumptions about our Spring times, then list the months.
Sorry if I am overreacting, but I really do feel insulted that you made a point to write that.
my guess is mid-late jan remember they have stated that not all content will be right at launch but in a later patch after launch
My guess: February - March 2013
I originally thought March 2013 but even that is looking doubtful at this point so I'm going with May 2013.
I don't even expect the beta to begin until January. The alpha isn't starting until November and that will take 1.5-2 months. I doubt SE will change from alpha to beta over the Christmas period as their staff will be on holiday so definitely January for beta.
Anything less than a 4 month beta would be worrying. It takes time to go back and fix bugs and change things. You have to remember this is a whole new game and the beta will be treated as such. 4 months for an MMO beta is on the short end of the scale, it could well be 6 or more but unlikely.
Then we will have a few weeks of open beta while the game is packaged up and distributed around the world.
Then the open beta will be closed while they transition from that and prepare the servers for release, say 1-2 weeks.
So yeah, May at the earliest.
Unfortunately GTA5 is likely to be released around the same time and I've been looking forward to that more. So I am actually hoping ARR won't be released until June or July.
Well I think the stores have it. Amazon quotes and i do mean this Next Christmas. You have a waiting list too. Hmm could it be that Amazon wouldn' lie. So well im not looking for it till next bad summer, I tell ya that was a Hot one baba.

Off-Topic I know but How come Aion is F2P ( I haven't played that game yet) and the Music is amazingly good. I know it used to be p2p, but with Music that good.. it's almost in the same league as FF games are... I admit it.. not all games that are F2P are bad ( at least as far as the music is concerned).
Maybe all the Good F2P Games were once p2p games. Call me surprised. o.o

Beta will probably take 6+ months. If they rush this and it's crap like 1.0 they are going to look pretty stupid.
Am I the only one who thinks a 6 month beta is too much?
Not even because I want to play ARR soon or anything, it would actually be beneficial to me to not have a MMO I'm really interested in released until next summer (out of RL reasons), but because I expect a game to be already mostly finished when it goes into beta state. If it takes more than half a year of fixes AFTER it went into beta it probably wasn't ready for beta anyways.
Beta should be used for general adjustments, most game breaking issues should be resolved beforehand..
Also, there's a certain time limit on how long you can keep people interested.
If you start hyping your game in spring 2012 and it's still not released in summer 2013 people will just lose interest in it.
Not true for ANY game, some games had people waiting for it for 20 years, but FFXIV ARR is not that kind of highly anticipated title.
Therefore I'm hoping for something between March and May 2013.
Alpha being pushed back into November is already too much, It's like...SE, it's ok to let us test something you're working on...that's the point.
To be fair though, SE did give us a "Coming in 2013" release date with the new newsletter, so amazon could be accurate for all anyone knows.
I highly doubt with all the interviews he has taken and said " We don't want to keep players waiting to long to play FFXIV" then turn around and make us wait till December of 2013. Not saying that's not possible.. but I can tell he's a sincere man and when he says he's going to do something, he does it. I still feel around March 2013 will be a nice release month for the Taxes and what not.
Idk, he also said we'd get weekly updates after gamescom and alpha would be starting by now. So I don't fully doubt him, but at this point it's ok to admit that nothing seems to be on track anymore for them lol.
I recall a german rep even stating that beta was supposed to have been around november as well, but we now know it's Alpha.
Regular updates ( directly from the FFXIV site) is not the same as "Weekly updates" Regular meaning it's not a long wait, and not necessarily a week either :P

Welcome to the official website for FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn. From now until the game's release we will be featuring regular updates and news about the game, and are looking forward to showing you everything that's in store!
I still think that Alpha Date is still up in the air, they are throwing around dates ( I Suppose Naturally) on when it's going to happen. First is was Alpha September, German Rep confirms beta starts in November, Now all of a sudden Alpha is in November.Quote:
I recall a german rep even stating that beta was supposed to have been around november as well, but we now know it's Alpha.
and the First phase of alpha is Japan so we may not even know it's even happening, and we can;t even know about it due to the NDA. for all we know the japanese could be testing now.
Does any 1 here realize that on all those sites like amazon, when it says December 31st it doesnt mean December 31st.
It means some time that year, unknown date. I dont know WHY they use last day of the year, but they do use it as a place holder for things they think will come out that year, and if they dont know the date
Late march early april my guess.
im still standing by mid to late jan release alpha or betas dont last that long longest ive seena beta last is one month on any game same with alpha my bet is for alpha to be nov then beta in dec then release in mid to late jan
Since Server go down in Nov, they need to start 1-2 months after it or they loose way to many ppl.
So end of Dec i think it gonna be.
I have to agree. I'm taking the optimistic approach that if the servers are going down then they must plan to bring ARR online within 2-3 months. Otherwise they could just leave 1.23 running until they are sure of having ARR running.
I don't see why they need to port character data 6 months in advance. So I'm going with 3 months max until ARR.
