What's the point of playing after the saved data process? No.
I vote yes because when you take away the 'reward of progression', the game-play of the 1.0 client will change completely into something i believe to be genuinely awesome.
No longer will people play to advance, they'll just play for the 'anything goes'.
Personally, i'd love to get together with groups of 30+ players and take on a high level goobue.
The dungeons won't be speed run based anymore, nor will caravan be about saving the chocobos, nor will hamlet defence be about the score. Caravan could be about killing the chocobos and it wouldn't really matter because the reward isn't the purpose.
It'll be LOTS OF FUN.
Because many people are probably busy trying to finish quests, achievements, and do other things that will no longer be available in 2.0.
Once the data is saved on November 1, there will not be any time pressure to accomplish many of these things because it won't carry over... so that is when we can start to relax and take screenshots, record cutscenes, try silly things, or just hang around and socialize with in-game friends.
I voted yes.
I voted yes as well and for many of the reasons you state. I just wna to have a bit of fun and still be able to keep up w the friends ive made. Sure, not all will play....i wouldnt expect them to....but why cant there be an easier option for those who still in want to play? Why so black and white with the decision?
I think that each character should have an individual choice to particiapte in playng after nov 11th. If you choose no, then u cant log on.....if you choose yes, you get grouped onto a server with the others that said yes, so you can continue to play on a somewhat populus server. It would be really cool, if the latter could opt in to NOT have their data saved when everyone else does. This way we could continue to get stuff done ingame and have our final save when 1.0 officially goes down. Just an idea.
I happened on to this thread first, noted alot of the votes were no. So I voted yes because some times I ust like to be a contrary little prick.
No because I don't want another RuneScape / RuneScape Classic situation.
I don't think this is a poll to ask if we want to keep 1.0 around forever (i.e. having 2.0 and 1.0 running concurrently).
It is just to let people continue playing FFXIV until 2.0 goes live... instead of leaving a complete void for those who don't play any other games.
Aye, nuff said. XD
What I think they are saying is the last save is Nov 1 which is the end of the world and they are giving people 2 weeks to experience it. Everyone plays on different times and different days so they are giving people a chance to see and experience it. I think its a great idea and hope people don't have any personal real life things that don't give them a chance to see it.
I said yes, just cause it could pass the time and plus talk to linkshell mates and friends.

NO!
Gives me a chance to spend time on other things. Maybe I can finally build my new pc.
no too i want se make more progress on 2.0.. so i can play 2.0 more faster and more smooth
I voted no. Without saved progression a mmo is just a chat channel.
I would rather SE shut them down save the money and put it into more development. A mmo without saving progression is at least in my opinion pointless.
I voted yes. It doesn't hurt anyone to have the servers up and if people want to use that time to chat and goof off while waiting for ARR, more power to them.
I voted yes, simply 'cause it would be cool to log in and hang out with LS-mates, goof off, do fun stuff "just because". If it doesn't happen, no big deal. It'd be nice to have that option, though, just to kick around and have fun in "old Eorzea". And if others are interested in something like that, and the offer is on the table, then why not?
What I find rather shocking - though perhaps I shouldn't, knowing how incredibly ego-centric many MMO players are these days - is how easily and willingly some will refuse others an option, simply because *they* aren't personally interested in it.
"If I'm not interested in doing it, then no one else can do it either".
That pretty much sums up the attitude.
If you wouldn't personally log in, then you wouldn't personally log in. No big deal. That's your choice.
How exactly would it affect those of you who aren't interested in logging in, if others were?
Are you that eager to demonstrate how intolerant you are of others doing something you don't like? 'cause some of you are doing a spectacular job of it.
Ever heard that saying, "If you don't like the song, change the station?"
Well, if you don't like the idea of logging in after 1.0 ends... then don't log in. It really is that simple.
And please don't come back with all this nonsense about how "all effort and resources should go into 2.0" and all that. You aren't behind the scenes. You don't know what their circumstances are. You don't know what resources they have or how they have them allocated. So, just stop with the arm-chair expert opinions on "how Yoshi-P and the FFXIV team should conduct their business". If it weren't do-able or feasible, Yoshi wouldn't have opened up the possibility to begin with.
Here's a crazy idea... Stop imposing your "likes" and "dislikes" on others. Stop trying to dictate how others can or can't have fun, just because it doesn't fall in line with what you want. I know. I may as well be asking a number of you to gouge your own eyeballs out.
No. Let 1.0 burn. <3
I agree wholeheartedly with this post.
Yoshi and SE are basically offering to keep the servers up. I personally don't plan on logging in, but for crap sake... They made the offer. If people will take advantage of it, why not? For that reason, I voted yes even though I personally will not be logging in after the end of the world.
well lol i voted yes also got nothing to say because all the other "yes" ppl took it :/ i like the idea of a chat channel and just chill in-game. who knows maybe ill see 30-40 ppl trying to take on a tree in Gridiana lmao ppl will probably be that bored
I voted yes just because i dont see the harm in it, they already warned that if we do say yes they wont be watching the servers. Ala, no more patches or bug fixes. Would be kinda fun to just go wild for a bit and like Reitsu said, try to take on guardian of the grove or some other crazy high lvl mobs.
Like most, I also said no. I don't have many friends in the game right now, so there's not going to be any point in me playing while its not saving. So I'll just go play FF1 or Etrian Odyssey 3. Maybe Pokemon White 2 if its out.
I voted [No].
I will use that time to rest myself a bit from MMO and gaming stuff and do real life stuff more :3
except i got a chance to play on alpha/ beta...
Well i'll still keep in touch with LS mate for sure via msn or LS website
but, it's no harm if the server still up for people who desired it... people can do various useful things like trying to triple or quard or penta materia with T4 mats and many more.
Voted No.
My backlog increased cause of XIV, hoping to smash through it before ARR.
But then again ARR might disappoint.
Oh well.
Still no. :P
Voted no, id rather it all end and then have a fresh start..the sooner the better :)
Something tells me NO is going to win.
I voted yes. 1.0 has been my favorite game (not just MMO) of all time, and, even though I'm just as excited for ARR as everyone else is, I'm worried that it might not have the spark that attracted me to this game. Not saying that I'm expecting it to be "bad", I just don't know if it will keep me as occupied as this game is. I want to have the servers up so I can still visit the Eorzea I know and love.
I voted no, BUT I would have voted yes if they would have made everything 100% drop rate so you can just go have fun with everything. Or, if they gave everyone all 50s and gave you best gear to have fun. Though, really no real point sooo no.
Not that I normally reply to people in these forums. Aren't you doing the exact same thing that you're telling people not to do? Everybody has their own reasons. We have to respect it and move on. If the servers stay up, they stay up. If they go down, then they go down.
I voted no. Let 1.X burn in a glorious fire and arise from the ashes as A Realm Reborn.
Devs already said their efforts will be focused on 2.0 so I voted yes ...cause even if I am not, probably someone else will want to keep playing.
the only people who will keep playing are people with unhealthy addictions who cant discern alternate reality from reality it self and will go into social withdrawals if the game is taken away from them o,O
i voted no because i could use a break from this version.
mainly because i dont see alot of point since nothing will be saved.
tho if we do have it still running ill probly be takeing screenshots from cut scenes.
I voted no, but after I thought about it should of voted yes. Personally I wouldn't play but if there's some people that want to, whatever floats your boat.
So much no.
Not one iota of effort should be taken from ARR, nor one iota of Player Interaction.
If we have to go a month or so without FF then so be it, we will be chomping at the bit when it does release.
Voted no. Inevitably there will be people who don't realize their progress isn't being saved, and they'll throw a big fuss. Their story will be picked up by gaming news sites, and then suddenly everyone will think Square-Enix is deleting characters. Sure the truth will come out eventually, but how many people come back for the retraction?
It's a mess waiting to happen and that's the last thing this game needs right now.
