Nothing that can't be obtained within the game should ever appear in a cash shop.
The only acceptable things to me are utillities such as race/name/server changes, something that justifies the cost.

first of all if your ties to a game are simplistic as that good on ya mate o.o "I QUIT A GAME BECAUSE OF A COSMETIC CASH SHOP THAT DID NOT INVOLVE P2W ITEMS DERP"
I agree on the bottom but look at it as this >.> you have 1-4 variations of swim suits available in game and cash shop has lets say 2 other variations not any better then ones in game but just a special color and the outfit sells for 50cents to a dollar... not saying all bad ass outfits would be in cash shop just a way to change the way you look... now again I'm looking through this as how TSW did it then again they made their gear so outfits had no statistical value on them... I think I forgot while arguing this here lol... I don't support free to play but I do support more cosmetics for players >.>/
I'm not fully supporting the idea... I just hate when someone bashes a concept because they don't look at all aspects of it... Never look at a thing from just 1 angle its a 3 dimensional world >.>/ look into the depth that surrounds us!~ @_@/
Random thought...Why not put those vanity outfits in the synthesis recipes?
I can get behind paying for things that increase SE's workload. Race, name, gender, server changes, things like that. Maybe even some vanity items that wouldn't make sense as a crafted item. The useless pets that just follow you around and make noise once in a while come to mind.
Not that I mind the developers making money where they can, but there are some lines that just ought not be crossed. On that note, even vanity outfits wouldn't bug me so much as to make me quit. Pay to win items would though.
No. No cash shop! Not now, not ever! The moment they introduce cash shop is the moment I lose all faith in the game and leave. Cash shop is for money-hungry companies who don't genuinely give a crap about their players.
If YOU want to give extra money to SE, why don't you just pull out a checkbook and mail them a donation instead of trying to force crap like this on everyone?
People are against it because we're already paying for the game, and if an item comes out (cosmetic or otherwise), we all want equal opportunity to get it, rather than 'those with the fattest wallets get the cosmetics'.
Exactly but since I was called out by Mizu my reasoning is that cash shops are just a way for lazy companies to make a quick buck with content that is either useless or gives players an unfair advantage.
It first starts out as a costume or a hat with pathetic stats that just looks cool but later on it is buying gear that is on par to some of the game's best drops.
At the end of the day FFXIV does not need a cash shop you pay to play. The only place a cash shop should be is in a F2P MMO's where they need to make money back from having no subscription fee (which again I do not want). I should be able to get ALL the items since I pay to play this game. Why pay twice? So again I retort: Do not want... ever /end
I don't mind cash shop for itens as long as they are aesthetics only.
I'd only want a Cash Shop if I could buy a RL plushie of my char in whm af. We can make this happen :o
EDIT: Van Darnus plushie!!! :p
The only thing I'd be okay with is if we had to purchase Race/Sex changes and world transfers. Anything else should be left out, please.
I always think of these cash shop models of gaming a "douche tax"
@OP: No.

The real problem why cash shop in P2P subscription MMO isn't bode too well is because the idea of spending more money in your monthly expenses is deemed bad idea. Sure, there are DLCs on many game, but you forgot that this is a game where you need to pay 10U$ every month. It will be a huge turn off for new player to know that they must pay more just to enjoy the game.
That is why, I prefer on "implicit way of forced subscription". /airquotes
Just like how F2P game sucked our money into deep abyss by selling low-probability Gachas, but we will promote on monthly subscription instead.
In case you don't bother to dig the thread....
LMAO could you imagine Relic cash shops get it asap pay 350 dollars DL 75 per HDL 100 per LMAO
Fuck this thread. I'm paying $10 a month. That means, so long as this game is p2p $10 a month, I should not have to put a cent more into the contents of the game, unless it was an expansion.
I honestly don't get why people wanna pay more in the long run, When a person finally makes 1 game their "main" MMO reguardless of what MMO that is, they are going to want the best things for their character, if you don't by anything on a F2P game, You will look ( not so epic), You'll will probably want exp boosters/extra inventory/AH slots etc etc.
At the end of the day (even if it is only 1 day til next year) a person could and I stress could wide up spending 200 bucks, on it. Now say a person wants to make FFXIV: ARR their main game but they are turned off by P2P simple because it has the word "pay" in it, just doesn't see the full picture of it all.
- 15 (at max) times 12= 180 bucks (Standard)
- 13 times 12= 156 ( Entry).
When it comes to the bottom of it by the end of the year ( and this can vary from person to person) can spend just as much on a p2p game than on a f2p.
Like others have said and I agree with them, that each Model has their own thing going for them, which is fine I'm happy for both Genres getting the most out of them. but saying "No" to p2p simply the excuse is always because " well I have to pay"... well you pay for f2p too, you just don't realize till you spent 200 bucks on f2p things at a cash shop and wounder why your account is 200 bucks less :P.
I wish the best of luck for all MMOs out their, because each of them have their own unique way of showing things. What it truly boils down to is, Which MMO game is the greatest to play, and which MMO will be their "main" MMO. p2p/f2p/b2p aside, in the end you wide up paying the same amount every year.
This is how I view the f2p/b2p VS p2p my answer is: They are equal in strength, but the word "free" to play gives them the edge.
already paying $9.99 a month cash shops no thanks cash shops are for games that are free to play and to get cool crap you pay to get them this is ffxiv or a square enix game where everything is obtainable except exclusive event items which are time and case/area sensitive if you want to buy stuff with real money in this game go play something else.
As an avid supporter of FFXIV (Check my youtube, I've been boasting bout my faith in this game since 2010) IF they add cash shops, I SWEAR TO GOD I will delete my subscription. I'm not even playing. I'll find another game to play.
THE ONLY External money they would get from me, besides monthly payments, that I would accept is like the suggestion earlier, for SE to make actual, physical models of your characters.
Thats actually a really good idea XD - physical models of your character. I'm sure they have or know a production facility to produce physical models from computer models. Why stop there though, I wouldnt mind having minature Uldah's or other cities either (similar how Lord of the Rings made the Minas Tirith model). Dalamund hovering over (crashing) into Limsa - ill buy it lol.
hell no!
we pay for subs monthly
it more logic that we can get those cosmetic, change appearance, mount and costume through in-game content without cash
i don't understand the logic "as long it's cosmetic, cash shop is okay"
for god sake paying subs we should got all those in-game.
i prefer word "idiot" for those saying "as long it's cosmetic, cash shop is okay"
pardon my rudeness
PS. Real Money for my own char model? merchandise ? I will buy it without second thought :D
We NEED cashshop items or else Square Enix will lose even more money.
Hell I would even pay more money if they put in a part of what city your nation is, your flag, your favorite class and then maybe a monster in with your character statue, I would imagine something like this to maybe cost about $100 but I would rather spend that much on my character model than have a cash shop for items you can't get in-game without spending cash on.
Someone needs to point this out, looks like I'll be that asshole today...if they didn't rush to compete with Cataclysm, they wouldn't have lost money in the first place. Remember the state this game was in a little over year ago? People didn't play it for a week then leave in droves because there was no cash shop, or they didn't wanna pay a subscription fee. SE didn't replace everyone on the Dev team because the game was lacking in the vanity items for dollars department. The guy that cashed out that large chunk of SE stock the day of release didn't do so because he had no faith in the p2p monthly subscription framework.
SE got burned becase they rushed to release and the game turned out to be an unplayable monstrosity. Throwing up a cash shop, especially right now, would not only be like putting a bandaid on a gunshot wound it would also be an insult. Judging by Yoshida's comment about taking his sweet time to make sure ARR is fully ready for release, they've learned their lesson. It's a crying shame it took a multimillion dollar loss, and dragging the name of their flagship franchise through the mud for them to learn that lesson. However, you'll find me unsympathetic because that's a novice error for a new game developer, not one that's been in the business for 20+ years. But they're on the right track now, their hard work looks like it's paying off, so let's not throw them off track just yet.
500k came and played the game@ launch so I fail to see how this "f2p" thing is taking over, when the only reason FFXIV lost all those people was because of a poorly designed game. Period.
