Pick up a gathering trade or a crafting trade. That's what I tell everyone.

Crafting is not something normal people finish in a week. It is a long, boring process.
Most of the way it's going to cost you money if you aren't sticking to leves and leveling much slower.
So when you see that item that "costs" 20k more than it's materials, think of how many crystals and shards the crafter ground through, and materials they bought and sold around cost and hours they sat there. In that light 20k is quite a deal.
I think it's as it should be. Crafters need to make a profit on what they make/sell or else there is no reason for them to make it at all. There is an easy go around though if you can't make it yourself. Buy the mats and ask a friend or do a shout. I have never had a problem with getting people to do a craft for me.
In the end the seller is the one who gets to set the price and the buyer can vote with their wallet. If my items aren't selling after a while I will lower the price. But the crafters time is not worth less than the buyer's... If you don't like the prices don't buy. You will have to find another way to get your item then.
I answer shouts and LS requests to craft and meld equipment quite often. If you have the mats I generally do it for free, tips from strangers is appreciated.
I forgot about the cost of shards/crystals. I'm probably losing gil.
its always been double npc sell price for nq and 10 times that for hq
it really takes less then 36 hours to go 1-50 in any craft, faster if you can get more then 50k an hour. some can get 100k an hour making it only take 17 hours
if you play 4 hours a day, it would take 9 days to cap.
Do leves to get the mats, cash and shards, then sell or craft the mats. no cost to them
in this game though depending on the item npc price is ridiculous and you sell quicker for cheaper. take the copper needles I was making them easily because of all the copper ore i mined then turned the ore into ingots and ingots into needles. they sell for about 8k at the weaver npc i was selling for for about 2-4k and they sold because I undercut the npc and made a profit off of them
If you post a thread but are not willing to read the responces then why did you post in the first place? You want a soapbox, grab a twitter account.
Folks forget a forum is for information and discusion? How can you discus something if you won't even listen (read)?
Closer to the subject. I've been slowly grinding my crafts up, as you can see. Crafting and gathering have cost me more Gil then i've made. I'll likely be in the red for a while yet. However now that i can make some items to sell, and convert to materia, I'm seeing some profits.
If you want the money to buy a crafted item, but take the edge off the price tag, then look into a Gatherer Class. You can sell materials (some of them for a very nice return) with marginal out of gil purse cost. If you make a few non-bazaar deals you may even be able to supply someone directly, and get some gear made on the cheap.
Theres even alot of materials like skins that can be gathered by using a combat class, even at mid levels.
However, if your only intention was to complain thats X price is lame, without looking into some options for yourself or listening to some advice, then i've wasted word. Hopefully someone will get some use out of my post if so.
I started late into the game aswell, but i made a different choice. Instead of deciding That price is bad, and doing nothing, i did what you see in my signiture below. I put some effort in and took it into my own hands.
God im still being flamed xD .. Im not gonna read EVERY single response. My question is if you guys already dubbed me as ignorant, then why keep coming back to this thread?
SE already give out handouts for the lazy ones. Starting cost? Under 1k gils.Quote:

Way to ask question and not be flamed: What does the community think a fair markup on crafted items is?
Way to ask question and be flamed: Whats with the peice of X, thats like a YYY% markup, thats stupid
Just saying. I have some advice in my posting before. Up to you if you want to use it.
For players that make 1,000,000 an hour gathering I can see how time is valuble. Thats, 16,666 gil a minute you waste on a craft so its obvious you want to squeeze as much profit as you can from the wards. So if you can't afford the prices that are set I recommend leveling a craft or getting a friend to do it for you.
I have only one complaint on this whole topic...people who sell items in the wards for a higher price than what they can be bought for from an NPC. Worse yet, the people who actually BUY these items. I can only assume (and hope) it's a convenience thing, not having to use the Google box to determine what NPCs sell what items.
In regards to the OP, I set my prices based upon production cost + gathering time (since I gather my own mats more often than not) + and a convenience fee. Then I look at what trends are currently showing in the market. The most obvious one to point out is the "Relic Trend". I can make about 125k-150k on 1 Rose Gold Nugget +1 currently, depending upon market flooding and severity of undercutting. This won't always be the case, as eventually the "hardcores" will obtain their relic(s) and demand will slow-down, as supply increases, driving down price. /economicsclassflashback
