What a number of people are doing in this thread is criticizing BG for being selfabsorbed elitist with no skill. Obviously, its the internet. People will stroke their e-peen given the chance. While I did laugh at the Jehovah's Witness analogy, if you think having an application for an endgame linkshell is a joke I can assure you they likely don't care that they won't be receiving an application from you. Nor do I see the point of announcing the fact that you aren't sending one in. That's about as asinine as this post being in the General Forums.

To be fair if you use a well known LS name, relying on it's rep as having sooperleetawesome people, you kinda have to accept the other parts of it's reputation too for having uglymeanstupidstinkmucus people too. It comes with the name. They chose to use it, they can't pick and choose the parts they want and leave the rest.

Our LS was founded by old-school members of BG from back in the XI days, along with some BG-WoW dudes, and fresh blood from Rabanastre/Durandal.

It was meant to be a part of the picture in a way... you know how you tell them "I'm sorry but I'm just not interested"?

I suppose it was naive of me to comment using my opinion, but I have yet to see any justifiable reasoning that I (or indeed anyone) should go through a recruitment process similar to a job application, for a game I (they/we) pay money for. This however is a separate topic and I apologize for such a childish notion.

We had a good amount of OG BG members at FFXIV release that went to WoW with us from 11 and then came to 14 from WoW, we kept the name because the leader of OG BG also came with us and we more than had the right to, considering it was us that formed the LS in 11. The neobg forums are called neobg because they're maintained by new members of BG, not the original ones that went to WoW after we were done with 11.

The Bulls, or any team still call them selves The Bulls, despite people quitting, being traded, or retiring etc. Same concept.

Are the BG mods like Sonomaa and Rocl in your LS or is that the new BG?

Rocl was at 14 launch, but he doesn't play much at all anymore.

Sonomaa was part of BG just as we were changing to WoW so he didn't keep too much in touch with us, not sure what he's up to.

This is... an admirable post and a fantastic way to identify your intention. If this is 'truly' your intention then I would join very quickly as I'd like to become a more efficient player with my limited play-time; which of course stems from maintaining the priorities in my life. However, I have observed/heard of an equal amount of commendation as bigotry from your linkshell which puts me in a neutral position.

I haven't been on FFXIV for too long, but when there, I've spent my time in the Rabanastre/Durandal server which was semi-random choice for me; but turned out to be a great one because of the great people I have found there (some from this LS, and some not). Members of this LS have personally helped me with in game content a few times and I have been grateful for it. Similarly I have been grateful for the aid of various strategies in order to make myself more efficient. Yet members from an LS with such prominence and with such claims of professionalism would not commit such acts as, and for example, publicly posting a denied/failed application in order to ridicule fellow gamers... as that is simply non-prominent and non-professional.

Yes: I would like to become more aware, I would like to become a more efficient player, but I do not want my characteristics as a human being to suffer as a result.

Having said that, I fully appreciate your intentions, look forward to your forthcoming contributions, and wish you well in your recruitment process.

Pleeease, no more dubstep in your videos! That's the only problem I have with you guys. :(

With all due respect to Rau, he did this, he is not and has never been in our LS, he's just a voice on the forums from Durandal, but does not represent BG.

It's not that at all Yuri, you know I can respect a good player when I see one. It's the way the whole thing is presented. To me that is as important, if not more so, than skill.

This should have been done in the world forums, just like any other shell would have, and as to why applications are public? Well, that just makes no sense other than to use them to blugeon the applicant publicly.

They clearly stated this was meant for cross-server apps as well and general forums are where you will likely get the most traffic, nobody not from Durandal is gonna check Durandal forum. I am sure there are no rules against posting LS recruitment in general forum.

Oh c'mon now. Everyone who knows who BG is knows they're on Durandal. People looking for that type of shell will seek them out. There may not be any official rule against it, but just look at the replies on any other recruiting thread that's been posted in general discussion.

One common misconception I've seen trending through these forums; Rau is NOT part of BG. At least, last time I checked his 99 linkshells, he wasn't.... (<3 Rau)

I have a few friends and socials with some BG members. One of them gave me tonnes of advice, actually, on gearing and combat mechanics, and I'm grateful towards her. They're not hesitant at all to help us outside of their events and stuff; I remember duo-ing together with a BG member into Natalan (Sorry I wiped though. ._. ), caravans and leves, these simple things.

Really, just in terms of attitude and member appeal, BG is much like any LS; a healthy lively bouncing bunch of eggs with a few bad and lunatic ones. I'm not saying that all of BG are high-heaven gods or whatever, but they're human; I doubt I could find ONE LS that did not have a bad egg in it. BG just happens to be more well-known, so they get all the lashings. Think Lindsay Lohans when she did drugs. Tonnes and billions of other people do drugs. But Linday gets slain by media and general public.

I respect their activism towards quality playing, and wish them luck. I myself don't have the true mindset to actively seek such goals, so I have no plans to register, but to those BG members who know me (even vaguely from my very fail skills), good luck, and enjoy. It's been a pleasure being on Durandal with you, and all the other LS'.

It's not the achievement, it's rubbing their alleged greatness in people's faces and treating everyone that hasn't achieved as much as them as some sort of lower class of people. Fortunately, not everyone in the LS is like that, but the cases where it has happened stick out like a sore thumb. I do see a genuine interest by some to change that perception, but it's going to take a while (that about page has got to go, as I said- that's too far). They can do it if they really want to though, and I recognize a few people like the OP who aren't intending to rub things in, as it were.

As I said before WE did not make that public. Someone outside our LS posted that persons app, it was not a member of BG by any means, so before you go point fingers and accusing us of not being classy, please read the thread of even at least the most recent page before you post.
